There’s also a reptile cryptid, you could consider adding as well called the gbahali. It’s described looking somewhat like akin to postosuchus, though it can’t be because postosuchus lived in the USA. But there were other reptiles that lived Africa during prehistory such as nundasuchus, erythrosuchus & kaprosuchus. That could be candidates for the gbahali, if it’s not an unknown species of modern crocodilian.

I really do love these cryptids! Places like the Congo & Amazon Jungles have been pumping out new species & one or two that were believed extinct! Personally I do get frustrated/annoyed about the Mkole Mbembe! I've been keeping oddball/exotic fish for many years. I got fascinated with Snakeheads & Bichirs. I ended up on a quest to own every possible Polypterus I could! I thought I'd done it! Then found out one had been reclassified RIGHT as Covid hit. Never managed it but they were available to order... Then came Polypterus Mkole Mbembe! They're named after the cryptid as they're found in the same area & they seem to have patterning that has a line/ridge along their spine. They're not one of the larger species either so I was all in! Literally NOWHERE I tried could get even one, I called in a couple favours with friends who work with aquatic animals in general not just fish but nothing 😭

What I love about your congoraptor is that you didn't represent it lipped, I know lipped theropod studies were so hot recently but there's still some palaeontologists who are against it just like myself but I've never seen any movie or novel with small lipless theropods.
@Mudnag Жыл бұрын
Thank you! The lips in theropods are quite the subject. I can’t really decide if I believe all of them add lips or not. The one thing I find interesting in the entire lip case is Spinosaurus. I believe it could have had similar lip coverage to the Ganges River Dolphin, being lipless in the tip of the snout, and having some sort of coverage at the back. It’s interesting to compare theropods to living animals, but it’s also interesting having in mind they could look very different from anything we have seen.

kzbin.info/www/bejne/aYi4k394idJji5Y this is a link from paleontologist Tracy Lee Ford video that gives his ideas against 2023 study(not against lipped theory completely) which I think you would love to see @@Mudnag
@kavehthephantomboy Жыл бұрын
@@Mudnag this is exactly like how many paleonerds were imagining a 12m chicken with a long tail and snout and then calling it the accurate t-rex after yutyrannus discovering and nobody couldn't discuss with them because they didn't like to see what is not completely similar to modern relatives to this animals but now we all know that at least many parts of the t-rex body were scaly, this debate is also just like that, unfortunately this reaction is even happened to 2017 study from Dr. Thomas Carr about how tyrannosaurids didn't had lips based on a daspletosaurus honeri jaws but people reacted to it like: See, nobody cares. Honestly some parts in 2023 study were really weird to me, they say the t-rex replaced its teeth over two years but there is no sign of decay in comparison to crocodiles, I don't know how they're sure about it because based on two dinosaurs from two different groups of theropods, the allosaurus and the majungasaurus, this animals were able to replace their teeth even faster than crocs, for the allosaurus I've heard that it would take 100 days and for the majungasaurus it was even twice faster and then you wouldn't find any sign of decay on their teeth and another problem is that as the t-rex was possibly hunting the anklyosaurus, at least the juveniles, they would suffer multiple damages from biting them pulse a heavy and powerful bite force of 8000-12000 pounds and it's obvious that even with lizard-like lips it wouldn't help the animal so I can't really agree with this part of study. And never forget this fact that everything in paleontology is theory, even if we find a good preserved mummified fossil of a t-rex to solve this debate but we wouldn't realize everything about it, this is why paleontology is sweet endless job, you always can keep researching, criticize other studies and investigate.

Have there been considerations for some animals of the Paleozoic, like surviving trilobites, radiodonts, lobopodians, orthocones, temnospondyls, ancient worms, eurypterids, giant bugs (e.g., griffinflies, millipedes, false spiders, scorpions), pareiasaurs, and synapsids? Have there been any cryptid creatures associated with them besides the famous Dimetrodon?
@Mudnag8 ай бұрын
It’s a great question! I think there’s a Synapsid cryptid and an Arthropleura one too. If you think about it, J’ba Fofi kind of fits the giant arthropod theme too, as tarantulas are very ancient. But, so far, there’s no fossil proof that a spider ever reached those proportions, so it still remains on a somewhat fictitious limbo. As for Arthropleura, it’s easy to speculate, since millipedes still get very big nowadays. The same size as bird eating tarantulas.

Do you have any hypothesis as to why dinosaur cryptids seem to be most abundant in Africa in particular?
@Mudnag6 ай бұрын
I think it’s mostly due to Congo’s vast wilderness, which is mostly unexplored! Dinosaurs seem so distant and primitive to us, that we hope they’re still alive in remote areas. South America has Mapinguari, which is basically a giant ground sloth, and is extremely possible to have existed until very recently. Congo also has some of these more plausible cryptids, but I think the scramble for Africa in 1880’s and the fact that Congo remained untouched by outsiders for a longer time than other places, ultimately create the perfect scenario for dinosaurs (which were being just discovered) to roam around there.
@jameswilliams20754 ай бұрын

Very hard to conceive, but imagine a plateau inaccessible to outsiders, where prehistoric life remains untouched. Then, by “mistake” humans somehow cause these animals to flee into the Congo we are familiar with. But, of course, the Pterosaurs and giant Spiders could very well have always been a part of the ecosystem.

Not true or creatures that size would of been found years ago

All unsubstantiated and primarily erdorsed by creationists. Check out the Trey the explainer video on this and make up your mind. Me, I wish there where Sauropods and other animals alive but realistically there is still no proof whatsoever

@@suchasin yes, that’s a fact! I have seen his video and loved the detailed analysis. Our focus on these myths is more of a fictional one, than factual. We are aware the reports are quite ludicrous. But, still, they make for great speculative biology hypothesis and, overall, fiction and entertainment. And that’s how we want people to look at it, not so much from the perspective that they 100% exist.

Dinosaurs did not have feathers and that is a fact. Why do no living reptiles have feathers? I enjoyed watching except for the nonsense on dinosaur feathers.
@Mudnag5 ай бұрын
Some Dinosaurs did have feathers, and it’s all over the fossil record. We have known this for decades, since the first Archaeopteryx was uncovered.

Surely this is bait. As Mudnag said, we have known that some dinosaurs did in fact have feathers....

You can’t say it is a fact without ignoring all the other evidence.

Credit to Bill Gibbons where it's due, but I do think I have my own vision for these cryptids, with a basis in speculative evolution. And it’s mostly artwork for a fictional comic book story.

Is it just me or are Congo cryptids both reasonable and usually what could easily be thought of as a natural evolution of some known dinosaurs?
@Mudnag10 ай бұрын
Yes, they very well could be a product of evolution. Just animals surviving and adapting to an ever changing environment!
