First, I'm absolutely in love with the new slightly sillier style of the recent videos. Keep up the good laughs! Second, as a man who likes stereo-typically masculine things (cigars, whiskey, watches, women, video games) but also stereo-typically feminine things (cats, fashion, interior design), it took me a full decade (all of my 20's) to learn to separate myself from toxic friends who would make disparaging comments about my race, style of dress, and class completely out of the blue based on these things. I wish I had videos like this back then to show me a man can be many things.

I'm a woman so I probably do not even belong here, but I honestly appreciate it when a man is passionate about very different and somehow "opposite" things (why opposite and declared opposite by whom ? I could not really say, though...). For instance my husband is this manly military officer, who likes his rugby and blended malts, but he also shares my love for beautiful flowers, cute babies, baroque Music or Miyazaki pictures... To me that is the definition of being "sain et équilibré" (having a healthy and balanced mind), and it is a fine quality !

I still follow them, and I like most of their content, but as of lately, I feel like they focus too much on "what to do to impress women", or "top five things that will get their attention" etc. And honestly, it seems so superficial. While here on the Gentleman's gazette, they remain simple and focus on what's really important: self improvement, not seeking others' attention or validation. Feelings aren's always good. The advice should be not to let the emotions errupt freely, but to rethink the emotional standard you are willing to express and dampen the feelings you feel are negative ( which requires time and awareness to process, and in this time it is the most important to stay calm and stoic; after you have figured out what you want to say - then you can start sharing it). Even if you are not violent, you can sometimes let slit some nasty things without even meaning them. And once they come out, there will be no way back. And it is a lot harder to repair your standing afterwards, than to keep your emotions in check.

The tricky thing is that although many of these things aren't what defines a man, they are how society views them. And regardless of how you appear to the outside world, some part of society will always hold you to it's standard or expectation, as long as you walk the walk of life. A man is not truly measured by his emotional assurance, financial stability, or physical strength. However, women are generally more attracted to, or see value in a man who is emotionally confident, wealthy enough to support her so that she doesn't have to pay significant bills while in a relationship, or has a more muscular and defined physical build. The lie is that a man MUST become these things. But the truth is that society (primarily women in society,) see these kinds of men as more desirable. And therein lies the main reason men struggle with these things; because of what many women want. (Regardless if they verbally admit it or not.) But who am i to say it's a good or bad thing. The way i see it, a true man is one who lives by his own set of rules. Live confidently, and nobly, gentlemen.
@thecollector52433 жыл бұрын
Mmh, if that is your opinion of women then why would you ever want to be with them? If I believed most men we're superficial sexists who only wanted to be with 20 year old models, I'd rather die old and alone with five cats chewing on my remains.
@jonathanwilliams36073 жыл бұрын
Rika Allodola I said ‘many women’ not all, or even most women. And truth be told, most men accept expectations and requirements women have for men (primarily financial expectations,) especially as they mature. It’s true, that some men only want to be with 20yo models. And 20yo models are ok with that, as long as those men meet their expectations as well haha. Although these are lies society tells to men, I’m sure you would agree that generally a man who is emotionally and physically strong, wealthy, charismatic and subtly seductive, is more attractive to most women than a man who is poor, over or significantly underweight, an emotional mess, and who has very poor communication and flirtation skills. -And I’ll admit; I find a woman who is youthful, more physically fit, naturally physically blessed, mild tempered, sweet, and agreeable, over a woman who is much older, out of shape, doesn’t take care of herself, not naturally blessed, angry, and bitter. None of these things bring value to a woman or man, and they are not a tell of the content of their character, and worth. I have no clue who you are. But regardless of your exterior or demeanor, that has nothing to do with you being a worthy and lovable and wonderful person. These things are merely social currency, that most all people contribute to, whether consciously, or subconsciously. By nature, or nurture. These are the things we hate about society, but we also can’t help somehow feeding into.

One of the very few videos that I don't think are good and might even be bad for some to follow. Masculinity is what it is, whether you like it or not. Life choices and "default life path" are mostly followed by the population, because it is more likely that they will lead to happiness in life. Proven and tested through many generations. A lot of people think that something else will make them happy only to regret their life choices later. Can you be happy following a different path? Of course, but better be sure that the "default" one is not the right one for you first. Are there people who have mental problems because they are burdened by some of the "myths" mentioned in this video? Yes. But there are also those that have mental issues because they tried something else and failed. If a woman prefers a man with traits mentioned in the video, there is nothing you can do about it, no matter how philosophical you want to get. Also, there is no such thing as "toxic masculinity". There are just idiots. Yes, masculinity and "being a man" is not the same, but that that doesn't mean that either of them are "good" or "bad" by default. There is absolutely nothing wrong with "masculine traits" and it's wrong to state otherwise. You can be a man without masculine traits, but that doesn't mean that masculinity should be attacked.

What you lack in one thing, you excel in another. I wouldn't worry that I can't bench press 300lb but I have a very strong brain and logical skills. So even if I can't lift a car, I can reason, and am a great problem solver. One thing I think you should have expounded on is confidence.

"All I wanted to do, is be is more like me and less like you" Chester Bennington I don't know why but this video made me realise that you can listen/watch Linkin Park's song through the lens of 'this is what it means to be a man'. It's a perfect fit I believe.

ok, when i saw the title and thumbnail, i really thought this was about to go in a different direction. like an.... incelly direction. but, i mean this slapped me in the face for even suggesting it. many of these channels and pages about men and mens things usually go in that direction. so im glad to see this went a complete 180 on those ideals

The point about feelings is only half true. It is ok to talk about your feelings, but you have to be in control of you feelings. Otherwise you will just look whiny and unmanly. Every man can have and talk about his feelings but no man gets respect if his feelings control him.

Precisely! Everyone is different, and with no self control of negative emotions, some men would become sniveling whiners, others would be lost in profound melancholy, and others would let their violent tempers flare and terrify everyone!

First. You all always look immaculate. Your sense of style is always great fun to see, as well as inspirational. Second, you bring up issues that we as men need to be willing to take up with each other and with our sons regularly. Please keep doing what you do.

Pope John Paul II’s Theology the Body provides a comprehensive understanding of what it means to be a real man - some of the key points quite align with this video, such as making everybody around you better people (holier people in JPII’s sense), and love respect and stay away from objectifying women or just anybody for that matter.

Dear GG, Please make a video on winter clothes and air conditioning in the office. When I started working, I used to wear heavier suits in the winter only to boil in them. The girls at the office liked to turn up the AC to the max. I hadn't dscovered the concept of layering yet. If one works in place with AC or heaters on all the time, is ok to dress with light clothes under a heavy coat or parka, which you take off when you get to the office? Should I wear my summer blazer or will I look ridiculous?

Not less emotionally literate, no. But we should control our emotions and not because society says so. The Stoics didn't believe in denying emotions but in realising they are impressions. We get to choose how we react to them. That gives us power and prevents others having power over us
