The major problem, for me at least, is that I keep stopping doing things I like simply because I think I'm wasting time by not doing things that look "competitive" for admissions officers. I've realized that it is much more important to do something that you are passionate about than doing what you want others to think you do and enjoy.
@goharsguide9 ай бұрын
YES!! Also, the things that you do just for fun (i.e., the things that don't look "competitive"), actually tend to be the activities that stand out the most. I'm a huge proponent of pursuing fun, "quirky" hobbies in addition to the more traditional activities

It's funny how a few of these comments are made by underaged people but they're still more mature and understanding than some adults. Its a phase for everyone and just embrace who you are because realistically, that one kid in ur class is the most insignificant thing in ur live. 2:23 a good example to back it up is a guy called Daniel Ricciardo. My f1 fans can back me up but his very jumpy persona and his kinda weird celebration (drinking champagne out of his sweaty shoe) would seem weird but its what makes him so well remembered among the f1 community.

I love the tip that it’s “not too late” I started on my competitive sailing team as a 15 year old freshman after Covid. I was very nervous as I’ve never sailed before or remotely even looked into it. However I worked hard and pushed myself to learn all I could and did summer programs as well as every regatta my school participated in. I’m a senior now and a captain and although I’m not amazing I can hold my own and beat college sailors and people that have been sailing since they were little. It’s been such an incredible sport and passion for me that I’m going to continue fostering my love for sailing as a summer sailing instructor at the place my team sails out of this summer!

This video genuinely helped me more than anything my teachers have taught me as a thirteen year old student. Gohar touched upon many points that I feel relate to my experiences, and this video provided me with clarity. My family and friends often regard me and my interests as “weird”, but I have slowly been coming to terms with it and pursuing my interests, just as this video stated. But the mindset that this put me in led me to notice and personalize the accomplishments of others. When I talk to the math prodigies of my class, I compare myself and wonder why I am not farther along like them. Even at the thought of a science faire, I wonder how I could ever compete with them. Life has turned into a competition for me. However, this video helped me realize that the best thing to do is to tune out others and focus on my progress. Other’s achievements and opinions are not my concern and I should pursue what I am passionate about. I have said this time and time again but thank you Gohar and others who can understand and aid us in these confusing times. They can be quite tough and tedious to endure, but know that as long as you are willing to commit to your goals and put in the effort necessary to achieve them, good will come out of it. Lots of love to you all and keep going! ❤️
