The "perfectionist" versus "pragmatist" dilemma needs to take into account the risk-reward outcome too: it's easy to be pragmatic over a dinner choice but less so when the stakes are high e.g. choosing a car seat for your child; trusting someone with a large investment or even finding the right partner 🤣
@loes6839
@loes6839 8 ай бұрын
I don't really agree with this. You can be pragmatic in those big choices too. I don't need to know the specs of every car available, I just pick one I like and has good reviews. (Same goes for car seats) I didn't spend years looking for the perfect partner, because he doesn't exist. You have to find someone that is willing to work on the relationship with you as a team. Of course you have to like each other but I think a lot of people nowadays, quit their relationship over minor things like not having the exact same interests. If you agree on the big stuff and have good communication, you can get very far. (10 years in atm). I have a friend who is a really big perfectionist and she's been looking for the perfect home for years, it doesn't exist. You have to make it your perfect home. The only thing you can't change, is the location.

One principle I’ve adopted since I hit 40 was don’t be afraid to time box. There’s a trade off for projects that we are passionate about and the time and investment that comes with them. If you time box your habits and projects you are more likely to choose the ones of higher value and follow through on them.

I agreed with your reflection on being a pragmatist and be real with what you want. Now in my 30s, and realising that after spending 9 years working to only found out that my true passion was the first job that I left. Did I regret, that I lost valuable working experience? No, it was a great experience as you get to explore what the world got to offer and finally discover your core passion. Project "Life Transition" in progress

This is so true! I see this at my job! I am a pragmatist and I get frustrated with people trying to be a certain way or too perfect when it's not necessary.

Before I even finish watching the video, I’d like to add how important it is to implement the first lesson in parenting. It’s a game changer. It’s a disaster to raise a child being a perfectionist, and yes, starting with literally ordering that pizza, or ‘planning’ a weekend.

I have over time had to learn these same lessons the hard way. I am older and all the information that is out there now was not available in years past. I have tried to pass along what I have learned to my kids and anyone else who would listen. The game has rules and once you understand those rules and use them to your advantage it then makes sense. There are people out there that tell you one thing but in the end they want you to do it their way which is not in your best interest but theirs. It is really simple if you pay attention to what they say and do what you feel comfortable with and look at the risk you are willing to take.

Hi Nischa. Am wondering your thoughts on this scenario: I want to downsize from my current house and buy a smaller one with my equity so that I have little or no mortgage. Because it's a sellers market, however, my agent has recommended i have my house under contract before i put in an offer on the smaller house. Problem is, there's little housing inventory. If I get my current house under contract, there's a great risk I won't find something smaller in a couple of months and my buyers will walk OR, I could sell my house and rent somewhere, assuming that I will find something within a year (before I have to pay ~ 15k in capitol gains if I don't). Thoughts?
