What you call side effects I call inexperienced user figuring out what works for them. The right mask, the right pressure, the right sleeping position, the right humidification level. Benefits of CPAP versus “side effects” - no contest all at. Sleeping without a CPAP would literally kill me…

I have been using CPAP and corrective mouth pieces for 8 months. According to my machine data, my sleep stoppages have been hugely reduced from 50 per minute to under 10 per minute. Great news, but I have got no relief in how my head feels when I wake up. My brain feels cloudy, heavy, foggy, like waking up after taking a powerful sleeping pill. And this uncomfortable feeling is staying with me 24/7. It is just as bad as when I am not using the CPAP at all. Sort of defeats the purpose of these tools when there has been no improvement in the quality of my mind when I get up. My eyes are as dry as a desert, and my head feels the same way...baked. Is it more likely caused by the machine (leakage) or a problem which the CPAP isn't addressing, like obstructive apnea or another brain issue altogether?

I am supposed to use it but, after giving it a try, I could not keep it on all night and it was constantly leaking. It did not seem to make a difference anyway. I do not keep falling asleep all the time and the technician blamed me when I said I toss around a lot on my sleep saying everyone else was OK with it. She also fudged my score so I more or.less stuck up two fingers and refused to see her again sending a letter to the whole department. Most people when you ask around do not use th even when issued. Who wants to sleep in a mask anyway? There is a new method that has been tried at Guy's Hospital, London but only 3 have been done and it would cost £17, 500. Maybe AI can come up with something

When you say that CPAP didn't seem to make a difference, what metrics are you using? Before my diagnosis I had purchased a full-time recording blood-oxygen meter (look up "Vibeat Wrist Pulse Oximeter") which I have continued to use after starting mask use 10 days ago. The device (coupled with free Windows software) produces a detailed report of pulse and SPO2 at 2 second intervals which revealed that prior to starting treatment there were occasions EVERY NIGHT where my SPO2 would drop below 75% - which I believe is considered life-threatening. Since I started wearing the mask I still have apnea events but not a single one has resulted in an SPO2 below 85%. If I did not have these concrete results then I might agree with you that the treatment doesn't help much (I still have apnea episodes after all) but the results of accurate measurements reveal the benefit. Nobody lives forever (I'm 71) but I like the idea of dying of something other than suffocation due to apnea 🙂 BTW, can you tell us more of this new experimental treatment being tried at St. Guy's?

My dry mouth is not caused by air leaks in the mask, it's from mouth breathing which was not even addressed in this video. I use a BiPap and tried turning up the humidity but this did not help and my mask and hose would accu water and gurgle. So, far the only solution I have found is to tape my mouth to force myself to breathe through the nose and this is working rather well. I asked my dentist about the dry mouth problem and he just prescribed me a heavily fluoride toothpaste to use at bedtime that I don't want to use due to its toxicity. So far, the mouth tape seems to be the way to go, any other suggestions?

In my case there is nothing hypochondriac about my symptoms. My brain feels as bad, if not worse than it does when I don't use the C-PAP, in spite of my data suggesting my sleep stoppages have been almost eliminated.
