Common mistakes seen in other jkd: Stances are more for posing instead of a function posture of delivering force 360 degrees Moving to where the opponent has the same amount of options as you have. Overkill. Throwing more than what is actually needed. Dancing rather than moving with purpose. Complex movements. Bouncing off targets instead of shocking through. Just a few things off the top of my head. And all of this starts with understanding the stance. In order feel leveraged positions of delivery for economic forces. Excellent video Thomas.

Most likely your most valuable video so far. If you get the stance wrong, then everything will go wrong.

Interesting that the common mistakes that have been discussed is in the notes and writings within the Tao and the fighting method books, yet many people ignore that. Quick question, what is the significance of the last mistake with the correct hip placement?
@ThomasMarxJKD Жыл бұрын
Its important for your balance and ability to shift the weight quickly for moving and also powerline isn't interrupted by weak core placement.

Do we have to add anything to JKD or to modify JKD ? NO. Master Bruce died in 1973. But he founded JKD in 1967. Naming was the last thing. Not the first thing. So it is completed. Nothing more. Nothing less. But later years, people tried to modify it and add so many things which were the discarded items by Bruce when he made JKD. Specially Guru Inosanto made this mistake. People should know that JKD was in process around 1964-1967. If Bruce died during that time, then it might has to be incompleted. But at the time of his tragic death, JKD was already JKD. Nothing less. Nothing more.

He did refin refine it all the time. Not by adding stuff though.

No. JKD was coined in 67 and was in development up until 73. You are oversimplifying it.

Hey I really love your videos! I’m new to Jeet kune do. There’s a IFO Original Jeet by Tommy Carruthers in my city. I’m excited to start. What I wanted to know was does traditional Jeet Kune Do favour a certain body type or is it a delivery system for anyone to become proficient at?
@ThomasMarxJKD Жыл бұрын
Anyone who puts time in it. Also, jkd by itself is non traditional.

Stance just seems a little overkill narrow even when i pause this and directly compare to the fighting method, like hes on a balance beam. Good tips though.

The question is, how to use JKD against a human being, not against a style.

@John Abrams Actually, Bruce first learned fencing from his brother Peter who was a expert fencer and convinced him to take fencing lessons.

Aldo Nadi influenced Bruces Lee. The rear raised heel comes directly from that man.
