I also have Frndly TV...for almost a year now (here in West TX). However, I only watch ONE of their channels and ONLY got Frndly because ME-TV was DROPPED locally on OTA/Broadcast making it no longer available that way (free). Still, the monthly cost of Frndly -- even if for one channel only -- is (to me) worth it...unless it goes up too much over time. It HAS already gone up once (but only by $1, maybe $2?), so if it rises faster, will need to reconsider at that time. Or, I can just move back to CO where OTA/Broadcast STILL has ME-TV available -- so no need for Frndly. ;-) -- BR

The network affiliated local station demand retransmission fees to allow a streaming TV service to carry them. They’re expensive and that cost has to be passed onto customers. Budget live TV services like Philo, Sling and Frndly don’t carry them. Will be interesting to see if that might change in the future.

We have a similar looking antenna we had it for about 10 years and we get 35 channels and live in a very rural area about 50 miles from most TV stations sometimes we get channels almost 100 miles away. We experience some pixling from time to time.

I am so pleased to say my two sons got my antenna up last Friday. I absolutely love it! Wish I had of done this 4 years ago when I moved back to my home place since my parents have gone to heaven. I am absolutely in shock at all the stations I pick up. I haven’t missed cable tv at all. I get channels that are not on cable that I love watching. Thank you so much for your videos. I sent a couple to my two sons to watch. All they had to do was take my parents old antenna off that’s been up for 53 years and put my new one on the pole.

Hey Tyler! I want to say thank you. Through your channel, I learned how great the Channelmaster Extremetenanna 80 was when you tested it. I had a 8bay bowtie with a 2ft long VHS element before. But the array of VHS elements on the Extremeantanna was an incredible boost in gain for channels 7-13. (for me ABC,locals and my fav H&I) I went from no viewable channel to a solid picture. Being right behind a 60ft ridge was a hurdle, but I finally have something! Thank you again! If I do decide to add an amplifier, I'll use your affiliate link. (I'm sorry, I didn't know about it when I got my antenna). And Channelmaster has a new Out of Band filter coming this month. Not sure I'll get it, but if I do need it, I'll check on your list first for any future purchases

Tyler, I just purchased the Monster Vision portable, carry anywhere 1080p tv. It’s like an attache case with a 15.6” screen and is battery powered when no AC is available. ATSC 1.0. Has lots of features including HDMI inputs and USB-A. 60 watt stereo audio with REAL loudspeakers. Can power Roku, FireStick, Google Chromecast, sticks‼️Microphone input, 1/4” however mike not included. Rechargeable lead acid battery. I’m extremely impressed with the quality. I wonder - how much would it actually cost for a company to broadcast every local (major) local channel? I mean, KZbin TV, Hulu and few others do it, but they add on top of that many additional channels that inflates the monthly cost to $70+. If a streamer only legally offered local channels, how much could they expect to offer it for? At some level, that may be a portion of the population wants. Your channel exists based on that desire.

It might be hard for such a streaming service to exist because the big media companies that own local TV station tend to demand carriage of co-owned networks. For example, Nexstar might require a streaming service to carry NewsNation in addition to the local channels they own.

You don't need Frndly in Kansas City. A cheap UHF antenna (thankfully no VHF stations) will pull 100 channels easily.

It's not just about drawing channels, though. It's also about the guide. $7.00 for a decent guide, besides the array of channels, is hard to beat. I get 144 channels in Fort Lauderdale. With my LG set, I have a great built-in guide. With my Hisense, no guide. I want to get the Zapperbox for 3.0, but I don't need the DVR. I'm not a true cordcutter. I just like watching some stations only on OTA and would like the guide and clarity of Zapperbox. Or one like it.

​​@@stevez340 Have you tried any antennas from Winegard? My father-in-law treks his RV through upstate New York, even in multiple mountain ranges with great success. It's just a budget window antenna. I ended up getting the same Winegard antenna down here in Fort Lauderdale. I get 144 channels (no amplifier) and even run a splitter to a second set (which so many say won't work). I have tried and returned many antennas that were supposed to be better. None were. Tyler has done reviews on Winegard models.

Love the channel Tyler it helped me immensely utilizing my off air antenna. (Clearstream 2v, channel master powered splitter, televes preamp with 5g filter *I think) my set up paved the way for me to ditch Dish. Being that I live in rural Texas my internet ended up being Starlink but it was the only unlimited internet I could get. Now since I’m interested into Apple my primary streaming device is Apple 4k but my secondary TV is Roku. I’m considering getting a Roku TV for the game room but uncertain if the OTA tuner is any good. Perhaps you could review a Roku TV for its tuner capability as I like how the Roku TV integrated a live TV app to see free local networks without changing inputs.

lol, that was the antenna that I purchased on Amazon a few years ago and it was really bad. After the first wind storm (only 30 MPH) it was trashed. Did not get all the channels and reception was poor at best, yes even with an amp.

Frndly TV also has MeTV's second channel MeTV+. Also, I noticed some of the stations mentioned, except the hyper-local WFMZ, are owned by Scripps. Corporate synergy? And let me say this, don't blow off independent stations as some CW affiliates have switched to independent like in Tyler's case WPSG Philly 57 in Philadelphia the former CW affiliate. CW is now on WPHL channel 17. Perhaps due to My Network leaving some markets like Philly and Boston (WSBK, formerly My38, is back to being TV38. No Movie Loft or sports though like back in the day). New York however still has the what I call also-ran channel 9 WWOR-TV still calling itself My9. I think it's overdue for an image change to "Fox New York Plus" or "Fox 5 NY Plus" akin to DC's WTTG Fox 5 and WDCA 20 AKA Fox 5 Plus, which is My Network TV, which really is not a network but more of a clearinghouse for programs.

KMCI 38.1 The Spot in Kansas City is a secondary station to the main NBC affiliate. In the broadcast version, I can find additional hours of live local news, local NWSL soccer team Kansas City Current games, and other programming that doesn't fit on the main channel. I agree -- don't count out the "independent" channels.

This raises a question specifically about WFMZ. I can't receive it at my house in Southern NJ, I'm wondering if the entire Philadelphia market will receive it or just within a distance from Lehigh valley?

WFMZ doesn't reach the whole Philadelphia market because the broadcast tower is in Allentown. It barely reaches Philadelphia. They do have a broadcast repeater there to reach the city but areas beyond that to the south probably can't pick up the channel with an antenna.

I find it interesting that the reviews of Frndly TV do not point out that there is no commercial Skip (can't FF), thus making it more like a paid version of PlutoTV. No skip functionality likely makes it far cheaper and why these cable networks have streaming contracts with FrndlyTV. Also, Frndly TV does does not include access to the individual cable network apps or websites.

Wind blowing trees can result in multipath/reflected signals throwing things off. If the problem is really bad, you can try an ATSC 3.0 tuner like the model below as 3.0 signals hold up to multipath. bit.ly/3STyTqX

Just eliminated a $180.- /Month bill to my cable company and went with ROKU ! And they’re shocked and outraged at my dropping them ; begging 🙏 me to please return ! It’s different from what I’m used to ; it does have 400 free channels though 😮😊! Still trying to climb up the learning curve though. Had 12 year old tech that I wanted to keep and hookup to my new ROKU TV 📺; coaxial cable connections don’t match HDMI connections though, so now I have to replace my old DVD player with built in VHS 📼 player ( And VHS is extinct as far as a media medium so far as I know 😢😮.) Now I got to figure out how to convert old VHS tapes onto DVD, as I have quite a collection of tapes ! Hopefully, I can find a converter on the web from Amazon perhaps ?

I wish they would try to get ABC in their line up , where i Live that don't have an ABC station , but since it is a major network , i sort of doubt that they would do it ,I really don't know why Roanoke really didn't try to get ABC in this Part of the State , the closest is well over a 100 miles away , they would have one from time to time over 30 years ago on UHF , but they would not try to keep it , no one wanted to support Including ABC them self's , they could have lest try to put one in Blacksburg , and maybe did a joint project with college at Virgina Tech , maybe have interns in communications , and of all things to put a TV station in a near to nothing of a city like Lynchburg , Blacksburg is almost 3 times the size of Lynchburg , there is 2 major colleges and one 2 year college , many factories eating places between Blacksburg and Dublin Virginia 3 Wal-Marts , and a TV station is Located in pretty a empty place in the State , no wonder ABC has money issues .

If Frndly TV would like to add "Big Network" locals to their lineup, I'm fine with that as long as they offer them A la cart. If a subscriber wants to pay extra for the big locals, that's fine. But don't make them mandatory. Doing that will kill Frndly TV.

Wasted money on these antennas. Eastetn San Diego county CBS, ABC, FOX next-gen you out. Nextgen converter, NO-GO.From what I understand, mid and North County within pickup distance. However, other areas are blocked. If you have to have CBS and you're streaming, you have to buy Paramount+.

So frndly tv is doing something similar to Sling TV that has locals in select markets but on a smaller scale. If the business model is similar to what Sling TV does that means the price will increase in the select markets.

Actually, a price increase might not come as the local channels that were added depend mostly on carriage/viewers for revenue, not retransmission fees like channels affiliated with ABC, NBC, CBS, and Fox. It's quite possible that Frndly TV doesn't even have to pay these small independent local channels for carriage. If they are, it's pennies.

antenna man i got a antenna built out of scratch made with rod and a item hanger also a clamp and nails mount on a cut peace of wood, and no power source, but no channels, also have a tire rim of a small mini trailer with a 20ft cable and i hooked it to a extension coaxial have both antennas connected to my tv, also no channels, and used a filter to filter out lte 3g /4g ,no channels i found out the tree coverage and it will take decades to really whreal in channels, or the trees in the back to be cleared up in order to get stations.and just as this world is so mest up ill give some insite on address, 562 county rd 3997, in a rual area i live with my dad, also cleveland texas message to tyler antenna man.
