Grow your woodworking business with wedding "smalls"! You asked for it so here it is. The average cost of a wedding right now is $30,000 with over $2000 of that being spent on decor and rentals. There is a ton of money to be made by renting or selling wedding decor... and if you're not interested in that... these are great high-profit items for any woodworking business!
Let's break down some more builds and I'll also show you step-by-step how to make 3 decorative lanterns using only 1 fence picket!
Often, smaller items are looked over by new builders looking to make a name for themselves because they are looking for "that one build" that they can sell for a ton of money. They aren't considering the cost of the build and the time spent making it. Ultimately any business comes down to profit margins. I'll give you a few examples of how selling items that anyone can afford can generate crazy sales with minimal cost of goods sold!
Sometimes we overthink things when the most profitable items we are looking past. Let's change that.

Would u be able to help me identify some wood that I have in my barn? It's a little over 100 years old. It was leftover from my house that my great grandfather used to build the house I live in now. I believe it was used for the floor joist. 2×8/12' 2×10/12' They are reddish brown in color. I wish youtube would let us post pictures in the comments.

I picked my mom up from work yesterday and she told me she wanted me to make something cheap yet beautiful out of fence pickets. I said I follow a guy on KZbin that has a bunch of crafts from fence pickets.. Matthew Peech. She pulls up the video and it is your planter boxes lol. Now I have to make those, the snowflakes, all of it!

This is my 20th year as a wedding DJ. I've seen all the trends. One of the most enduring is the rustic decorations. The log slab centerpieces. The old glass pane door, white washed, with the seating chart written or attached to it (one table per pane). The directional signs. Take your ring box but narrower and instead of boring a hole put a band saw blade slit in one end. Then put a rectangle of card stock with the guest's name and table number in the slot. Instant card holder from a 1" branch that's ½" high. Easy. Wooden crates turned sideways on the desert table. I even saw a 2'X3' board with dowels sticking straight out. Then they hung 4-5 donuts on each dowel and put it on the dessert table. Hysterical. So many options. Thanks Matthew.

Hola! 🖐You or KZbin must have been listening to my conversation with my soon to be Daughter-In-Law who just asked if I can make a few for her, their wedding is this year! Excellent timing that I found this video and I am not lying when I said to her, "sure, no problem", that YOU were the fist resource that came into my mind for how to put it together. This video did not disappoint, thank you. Take care and have a good one, Adios!👊

Yes, pre-turned finials are cheap & easy to install & add a lot to the finished look. I made about 5 lanterns last year, turned out great, added finials that i had saved from old wooden curtain rods! Never throw stuff out! I’ll make a few more closer to Thanksgiving - they make great holiday center pieces.

Another way to make the colored jars is to put some medium to fine sand blasting media inside of them and shake it up real good to put some texture on the inside of the jar. Clean the jar out. Pour some chalk paint of whatever color you want inside and roll it around until it's coated, pour out the excess. The texture from the sandblasting media will cause the paint to be matte and since it's inside the jar, it makes it more durable and cleaning easier. I used to take cheap glass vases and do this to them and sell them.

Hi ~ I like your ideas for creating items for weddings. Question regarding renting items.. The business side of this~ How are the items getting to the customer and returned to you, if they're renting them? Transportation or shipping can really drive up the cost of goods so renting for $10 or $30 doesn't seem very profitable. Do you talk about this in some of your other videos? I'd love to hear more about it.

My old friend got into this field by attending a bridal show at a convention center and picking up a lot of business cards. Then she asked a bunch of questions which she furtherfilled out with research online. Yes, she did have to deliver, pick up (and count) the items. She made brochures to mail to consultants in her area as wel as a website.

Would love to see you do a video (or series of them) on where to sell these types of items. Facebook, Etsy, offer shipping or pickup only, craft shows, etc. I ask because we did a craft show this past Dec and had very disappointing results, barely made enough to cover booth cost, nothing for our time or materials.

That's my question, too. Etsy kills you with the shipping costs so I'm not sure where to sell stuff outside of my friends and family. I'll be taking a few things I've made to the flea market next month and I'm curious to see if anyone shows an interest.

Thanks for the advice on R Z Masks love them from the first day. I looked at how much dust it filters out and it’s amazing ordering more now with extra filters.

For the candle holders, if using real candles, you might want the top open. Seems like it'd be a fire hazzard if not open. You could easily use a medium sized hole saw to drill out a hole in the top. If using LED candles then you could leave as-is.

I was thinking the same. It can be surprising the heat that rises out of one of those candles.

The ones he showed in the pictures looked even simpler than the ones he built. Like just essentially a bunch of "sticks" all suck together probably with just a bit of glue and brad nails. They appear to just be a square piece of wood cut into many pieces and build a basic little box with butt joints. Even simpler than the design he made.

You have been looking on the PB websight for projects, but the joke seems to be on you. PB has been watching you and made their rounds tray based on your suggestion. Keep up the good work. Its always fun to watch your videos.

Do you plane the fence picket scraps smooth typically? I can’t tell in the video if those scraps are smooth. I made the patio cooler stand using the cedar fence pickets and left them rough. Turned out good I think.

I usually have to hit them with a little sanding or through the planer

Hey brother love your videos. I appreciate the way you explain thing's. Could you do a video on seal coat's and maybe show an example? Trying to get started in wood and don't understand some thing's yet. Keep up the great work, Thanks
