Thank you Hannah for sharing all you expertise and knowledge in a way that a beginner like myself to this most wonderful sport can begin to understand...like Kenneth, I've been at it for a couple of months at my local climbing centre at Westway in London (amazing place). I am so hooked line and sink with all and the climbing community Is so kind and passionate. Cheers

Heel hook is my fave, it help me so much and adds a lot strenght when i need it, i love to use it nearly everywhere where you can fit it, but when i overuse it the muscle pain the next day is ouch😂😍

Nice discription and explanation I have been writing personal notes on climbing movement for 30 years, the rock is a constant teacher " rock, a stationery object that contains infinite moves!" technique beats strength every time too.

Thanks Richard. I feel like outdoor climbing has a whole additional nuance again! Agreed that technique is often more valuable than strength. Thanks for watching!😀👌

Just discovered your channel Hannah and I'm loving the content you are producing. I've climbed for over 20 years and even so you've shown me my efficiency is really really lacking! Looking forward to trying some of your tips from this and your other videos. Many thanks and keep up the great work, Rob. Quick question for you ... which climbing gym or gyms feature in this video?
@hannahmorrisbouldering2 жыл бұрын
Welcome! Thanks very much. The gyms features in order of appearance are, Monk Amsterdam, Depot Sheffield, Volume 1 Climbing in east Grinstead, Rock Over Climbing in a Manchester. Perhaps a couple more but they’re the most featured!

@@hannahmorrisbouldering Many thanks for your reply. Just about to start a bit of indoor bouldering. The Peak District was my climbing mecca years ago but currently the easiest to get to is The Font at Wandsworth, not been yet though.

Excellent points and makes you think more about options. When i was at the gym last there were a couple of climbers confused with hand positions particularly underclings so they tried going high up with that position. I went low and could keep myself in better not being so stretched. Might be cool to see your take on hand positions and how to approach grips. I dont have the grip strength for tiny holds yet but technique might help that a bit and finding good angles to get secure. I am not a fan of dynos, always knocking one thing or another on the way and still miss my target. More strength or less weight required 😀
@hannahmorrisbouldering3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Joey! A holds 101 and how to approach them is definitely something that I would love to film with my local gym. It would be really cool to get behind the scenes in the setting store and have a look at all the different hold types with the routesetters. Video pending! ;)
@joeyc85463 жыл бұрын
@@hannahmorrisbouldering that would be cool! I like how the climbing gyms are happy to talk through all the processes, they really are the best. Setters discussing the approaches is so nice when you get stuck, have been a bit more questioning recently and got really positive feedback. There is so much choice now for hold styles. We have 3 or 4 at my local so you can find ones you like and ones to scare the daylights out of you (dual texture 😉).

More strength is often people's answer to everything. Chances are commitment or coordination is the problem, as those are the key to a dyno. You don't need to be strong for dynos.

Wow, nice illustrations!!! May I ask, how many time do you spend making a video like this?? I've always been wondering how much time go into your videos, how much work there's in. 😅
@hannahmorrisbouldering3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! It can take me anywhere from about 5 hours to 5 evenings work. I usually start working on a video a week before it uploads and chip away after work and on weekends and any spare time I get! Illustrations I’ll do in the evenings, when I’m travelling, in front of the tv etc so it’s difficult to say for sure!

Thanks a lot for creating these super useful videos (specially for beginners like me). I was wondering what would your advice be if one can't finish a specific bouldering route because the last movement is pretty hard and one is tired (more so if one has been stuck on the way). Is it better to rest and try that again the same day multiple times until one can reach the top? Or better to let it go and try another day? Thank you for your help 😊
@hannahmorrisbouldering2 жыл бұрын
You're very welcome! I find taking a big rest between attempts helps (often more than I feel like resting!). Often, if I'm tiring on a route or powering out before a hard top move, I'll work sections. Maybe I'll try jumping on half way to practice the top move or just work the bottom. and get those moves really well practiced and try the route again fresh next session!
