Horror movies made in different countries are a lot more scarier than the ones in the U.S.

Hereditary has this one scene, that just builds on this horrible growing dread of a big reveal. And when the big reveal happens, it's way worse than I imagined it would be. I have a pretty good tolerance for horror, so I've got a lot of respect for that movie for actually shocking and disturbing me like that.
@itakeonmovies2 жыл бұрын
I am willing to bet I know exactly which scene you're talking about. And you're absolutely correct. It's a film that just doesn't have a release. You're just in this nightmare wanting for the impending doom to happen. And when it happens it's nothing like what you expect. Slow burn, but excellent film!!
@SocialBobcat2 жыл бұрын
The Strangers definitely was unsettling. Particularly with the almost cinema verite ( if I'm using that term correctly) style in which the final kill scene was shot. Someone mentioned Event Horizon which is also genuinely unnerving And I'll add in my reply from the YT survey: In The Mouth of Madness had some otherworldly horror that stayed with younger me for a while
@itakeonmovies2 жыл бұрын
The Strangers gets a lot of hate, but I'm like what about this isn't unsettling lol? The masks, the downer of an ending just kinda leaves you feeling empty and ready to beef up the home security. Event Horizon and Mouth of Madness both were childhood faves of mine. And still hold up today. ✊🏾

I love watching horror movies in the theater, so I get what you're describing about being in the dark during credits music 😂 speaking of which, I never saw The Strangers, because I saw the preview for it in a basically empty theater while watching 2008's Prom Night. The main feature didn't scare me at all, but just the preview for The Strangers haunts me to this day.
@itakeonmovies2 жыл бұрын
Yeah something about being alone with that music didn't sit well with me lol and really lol? I can't say I remember the trailer, but I definitely know the movie was effective. I do reccomend it Strangers if you're ever up for it.

Not that it's a big deal, but 28 Days Later is not a zombie movie. It's people infected with a cross between Rabies and Ebola virus. They're just super angry and bleed a lot
@itakeonmovies2 жыл бұрын
This is true. They are essentially still living, but many consider it a Zombie flick for whatever reason, I guess its just easier. You are right though, The Infected would be the more accurate description. ✊🏾

I established a long time ago a movie routine with my Son, its called "Sunday Morning Bad-B Movie", it started with "The Thing From Outer Space". And yes, we've watched all three movies and compared them. Its been tweaked because of his work schedule changing but we make it a point of watching movies together. Especially Horror movies, we laugh, we get scared, all of it then we discuss. We are going to do the Halloween marathon next week, this is a great list...

LMAO you read my mind. I said, " the only thing missing on this list is Sinister..." and then you listed your number 1 lol. I definitely agree with your picks, but I do think that "Hereditary" was more creepy than scary. And the one movie left that I would add would be "30 Days of Night". Out of every vampire movie I've seen that one always seemed the most realistic. Do you think "1408", "Identity", or " Stir of Echos" might also fit on the list? All three films definitely gave me chills lol. Great list. Take Care...
@itakeonmovies2 жыл бұрын
Lol yeah you can't leave off sinister. One of the best horror movies of all time that also happens to be genuinely scary. Hereditary is definitely more about the creepy mood and atmosphere, you don't realize the horror is happening until you really think about it or catch what's going on in the background. And all the ones you listed could have all made this list. 1408 is a solid movie and so is Stir of Echoes. Stir of Echoes unfortunately got overshadowed by the Sixth Sense, but is great. And 30 Days of Night is such an underrated movie. Solid vampire movie with jumpscares, but also just entertaining the whole time! You have some great taste lol! ✊🏾

Tales from the Hood (Spike Lee) was and is a scary move for me to watch. It takes real life issues and turns them into eerie, unsettling, supernatural and horrific stories. Topics covered are domestic violence, police violence, and institutional racism. Another scary film is The Thing (John Carpenter). The paranoia of not knowing who is an alien remains so dense and present during the film. And the creature creation does a great job of tapping into primal fears of creatures and predators.
@itakeonmovies2 жыл бұрын
Forsure, I was a youngster when Tales From the Hood came out and remember being terrified..especially the ending lol. What's crazy is that some of the effects and Visuals haven't aged that well, but some are still extremely effective. The most important and effective aspect of that movie though is exactly what you said, the themes. When I was a kid I was afraid of the horror elements, but as an adult the movie is scary for the real life elements the movie talks about. And don't even get me started on the The Thing. Probably a top 5 horror movie of all time. And one of the greatest cinematic endings. Love it bro! ✊🏾

Great list. Besides the foreign films I've seen all of them and agree that all but one was really creepy. Hereditary was just too boring for me. Encroaching dread isn't something I really like. Yeah the suspense is good but without something pulling me in, I become numb to it. Sinister did it amazingly, having the films and the monster being the pulls I needed to stay invested. By the time Hereditary got to the last 20 minutes and it started to bring in the scares, I was laughing at the ridiculousness of everything happening, instead of being scared. James Rolf (the angry video game nerd) is who alerted me to the movie, he said it's the scariest movie he's seen so I did come into it with expectations. But he also said it really hit hard because he's a father and all the things happening to the parents and children. So maybe because I don't have children myself, the movie wasn't able to pull on those familial bonds.
@itakeonmovies2 жыл бұрын
Hereditary is definitely a film that if you can't get invested into the drama this family is going through, you'll easily check out on. Because let's be real the first hour is practically a drama with some suspenseful moments. But you are absolutely right Watchung family be depressed and cry in every scene isn't exactly fun lol. I would definitely not say it's the scariest film of all time, but I do think Hereditary does a lot well. I personally, am someone who gets bothered by things I can't explain or when my brain is trying to make sense out of something otherworldly and Hereditary does that often. No jumpscares, just something off about that stillness in the corner there type of stuff and thats unsettling to me. I also think there are elements of it that felt really real. Like aside from the supernatural elements, some of that stuff could happen in a family. So maybe like James Rolf I too had that in my head because I have kids and a wife lol. But overall I do think it's a movie that's not for everyone. Sinister just happens to have a perfect balance of many horror styles so I think thats why its so well recieved. ✊🏾

The Conjuring is the Goat for scare. A lot of folks will lie and say it’s not scary, but they’re showing out imo. Insidious is another off the wall. But any movie that can scare a people without being having to do with major spirits and using fictional creatures are on a godmode level. Drag Me To Hell, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Halloween, Jeepers Creepers, It, and The Thing. Scary stories told in the dark is creepy too. I see you have The Strangers up there. Ima try to watch it for the 90th time hoping I won’t wake up to the end credits.
@itakeonmovies2 жыл бұрын
The Conjuring is definitely one of the best in terms of just unsettling atmospheres and scares. Insidious too. Two great horror movies of the early 2010s, but imo Sinister is the one. And yeah I think that's why movies like The Strangers or even like Vacancy or Joyride are effective because they could actually happen. Now they aren't the greatest movies, but it's the premise that gets you. All the ones you listed are good too, Drag Me To Hell is solid and if we're talking 2003s Texas Chainsaw Massacre, that movie got a lot of hate, but was probably/scarier remakes of the time. But yeah man The Strangers a slow burn forsure, but worth it. Make you double check to make sure them doors is locked type of thing.
