Awesome idea for a video! Just watched the whole thing with my GF and she agreed to come out and try and learn on my v8 today 😃 . You're definitely right about the flat tire thing, I've ridden a thousand miles or so on a handful of different wheels and only ever got one flat because the psi in the tire was too low (I knew it and went on a short ride anyway) and I got a pinch flat. Other than that, I've ridden over glass and sticker bushes with no problems. 🤷♂️

It’s nothing like a bicycle or skateboard so I had to learn a whole new vehicle. Overall, from someone that has never ridden any other unicycles, I’m very happy with getting an EUC

One thing I found out empirically was that rural-ish gravel roads meant for cars(non-asphalt road surface but hardpacked sand and dirt covered with gravel the size of a finger tip) is really bad to ride on. Having to constantly keep the euc under control when the gravel slips and slides you around is really tough and exhausting. I had traveled about 40km and I got onto a road like described above. I couldn't ride it and had to call my friend who lived nearby to come and get me. The road went on for 6km and I had ridden only 1.2km of it at slow speed(10-15kmh) to avoid wiping out all the time. Also, muddy patches on any road surface usually means a wipe out or atleast a butt clinch and a heart attack. They don't have to be deep but they just need a little bit of moisture and they are horrible dirty, slidy, slimy death traps waiting for me to miss one and ride straight into one. I have been getting better at avoiding wipe outs on muddy surfaces but too many times I've fallen due to leaf mush on the ground.

I reckon that eye for eye a unicycle is one of the safest vehicles, just behind cars and their huge hunks of absorption material. Scooters have that long tube, great for breaking ribs and hips in frontal collisions, just like bikes. Bikes can fall over you, squishing your legs, torso, arms, depending on the scenario. With unicycles you will either just slide hella fast or hit whatever you'd hit anyways. The real danger with unicycles is the "oh it's just a EUC, I'll just put a helmet, if It was dangerous I'd need a license.

@HerricktheMildlyPerturbed2 жыл бұрын
You mentioned that you feel like having one wheel makes it more sturdy against flats. This is actually true. Most flats are caused by debris being kicked up, turned or loosened by the front wheel and then hit by the rear wheel. Front wheels get flats far less often. On EUC all you have is front wheel, so fewer flats.
@oldretireddude4 жыл бұрын
I've got 275mi on my V8F. I agree that it is not hard to do, the difficult part, for me, was the leap of faith that the EUC was not going to let me fall forward or backward once I stepped onto it. I think most people have this mental image of a skateboard or other non computer controlled devise that free wheeled out from under them in their childhood. I believe that riding an EUC is really much like coasting on a your bicycle with no hands on the handlebars.

I’m coming from several PEVs including the now defunct Segway PT. I think having been a Segway rider helps but there’s still side-to-side balancing that’s challenging during the learning phase. I’d say the most dangerous aspect for a slow rider like me (avg. 9-11mph) is how the wheel rolls away upon loss of control as it did in your video here. In crowded spaces or near cars, cliffs and water that can be dangerous. Otherwise I love EUCs so much that I got rid of almost all others and it’s the only one I ride.

Got my Euc day before yesterday. Did not take that long to be able to ride around the block. Still need some practice to get it fully subconscious but way faster than learning to ride a bicycle. The only big adjustment for me are my calves and ankles. They hurt! I’m sure that will go away. My first euc is a V8f. I’m glad I got it.

It also turns due to gyroscopic precession at high speeds. A displacement in centre of mass of the system away from upright and the force of gravity causes a torque on the wheel (around the roll axis), which in turn causes a torque (around the yaw axis) which turns the wheel.

Myth Number 8: One Wheels are better than EUCs for riding at the beach. I've been riding my sherman on bumpy and loose sand on the beach at 55 km/h for long stretches. Even a fat scooter can't do that. I don't know if my car could even do that. And the sherman just keeps pushing through the sand for hours. Using the One Wheel at the beach I would feel like a small child playing in the sand. Whereas the sherman feels like a mad max style extreme machine. And if you fall off the EUC it's a nice easy fall as you say. Falling off the one wheel is way more punishing even though the thing is about as fast as grandma's 12V mobility scooter. What a brilliant combo that is!!
@edgarkazak52284 жыл бұрын
I hit a pothole ones, and it made me fall at around 40kmh. But it's not because it was EUC, as any electric scooter would end up the same way at that speed and depth of the pothole. So really, its better to watch the road, instead of spreading myths:)

Hola, If I get a flat tire...I don't have to disconnect ALL the rim from the motor !! NO NO I only extract the tube with 2 flat screwdrivers, look for the broken one, stick a patch, put the tube back into the rim, inflate and go. I already did it and it works. You take 15 or 20 minutes. And you don't put your hand in the electrical circuits of your wheel Te mando un abrazo, from Medellin Colombia
