Thank you. Since you've nothing good to say about Fates (either game), give Echoes a try. Enjoy it for what it has rather than bemoan the missing scope and comfort zone. You might like it. (Two protagonists going different ways, until they unite for the final boss. Characters divided into a squad for each protagonist, small enough that we can use everybody until almost the end. Limited number of weapons to make the most of. A variety of maps that keep shifting the box so we have to think outside of where it used to be.)

For me, its: 1. Awakening 2. Engage (same as Fates, but I can somewhat tolerate the story and characters way better than Fates) 3. Path of Radiance 4. Fates (Conquest specifically, hated its story, loved the gameplay) 5. Blazing Sword 6. Three Houses 7. Sacred Stones

My top 5 in no particular order is Thracia 776, Binding Blade, Shadow Dragon, New Mystery of the Emblem and Conquest Honorable mentions: Sacred Stones, Engage and the Kaga Sagas (TearRing Saga, Berwick Saga and Vestaria Saga 1 & 2) Honestly though, I've moved on to romhacks. You get more varied plots, cast and settings with them. Some of my favorites are: Shackled Power Four Kings Dark Lord and the Maiden of Light Order of the Crimson Arm The Last Promise I'd be happy to reccomend more to anyone whose open to trying some romhacks

Awakening in 1? This game gotta be one of the most boring games ever. The game is short and the only two objectives are "Defeat Commander" and "Rout Enemy". So bascially your only job is to mow down armies of enemies. Also Nosferatu breaks this game which shows its rushed and not enough tested.

Pretty much agree with the ranking, except maybe I'd add SoV but Blazing Blade and Sacred Stones are also too good so it's really hard to decide. And boy am I so relieved that Fates wasn't on this list. That game is probably the FE game I had spent most money on but it ain't giving. Fates piggy-rode hard on Awakening's success and up to this day I still blame it for SoV's lackluster sales. That game was a disaster. (Ooooopsie, I didn't intend to hate on Fates but I guess I kinda sound like I am, aren't I?) I still love it for what it is, but... I should probably stop. *sighs* Fates just gave me so much heartache to be honest. 😮💨

I don’t play much FE games but here is my top 5: 5 - Awakening, i know you will say « this game saves the franchise » that’s not an excuse. Imagine I say « Tangled » gives new era for Disney after others movies don’t have much success. The thing is Awa was my trauma someone harasses me PLAY IT when I didn’t finish Fates. I had pressure because of this. If Fire Emblem is a menu, I had my starter and SUDDENLY the dessert. I play after years of therapy and… Disappointed. The story… Ok. But many scenes I didn’t have emotions because of my PTSD. Well I think it’s overrated that doesn’t gives me high hopes I though. The thing is I discovered FE lately so I don’t have same experience for many people knew the game more than 10 years ago. And characters…. Urg i don’t like the group, only Lucina Frederic are good, some are annoying and I don’t care. Except Gaius my sweet guy the only one gives me smile. 4 - Engage I liked, but so many issues I can’t qualify excellent. Just good. Some scenes are too long (Lumera death WHY Mikoto did a better job). After TH i miss other pairings endings, just Alear and the person you choose with the pact ring. The good thing Engage surpassed TH is you can have any character partner you want. Yuri and Yaoi ship more possibilities. I choose Alfred because… he could die if you don’t and I cry all night after seeing this. Even it’s predictable betrayals (I talk about you Rafal the DLC SUCKS) and twists but that’s okay, some supports saved te game and some references with Emblems are good. 3 - Echoes, is a good surprise. A friend suggests it and yeah I enjoy it. The only problem i have is supports in the middle of the battle. Explain why ? And some characters are good, Kliff my MVP and Berkut I love him. One of the characters I cry with Rinea. Some sidequests are annoying, the mazes when you explore gates that’s not a good system. They try something but I can’t really enjoy this part. 2 - Fates, yeah you will hate me but I love the themes, Hoshido vs Nohr more like Japan vs Europe Style, Story we can agree so many problems, some characters have issues to progress (Xander for example he has bad writing in Birthright) but I like the system path you chose. And Conquest was the best for difficulty i need challenges but also the story because that changed my mind i knew Nohrian family are not really evil. And sorry for Hoshido family but I cried more when Takumi and Ryoma appeared in the dream and the twist Takumi was the real Final Boss I was chocked. 😮 because I forgot. And that was cool. Why I said you hate me ? Romance. I love my Corrin with Leo. System with children is strange i know. But some of them are more interesting than Awa (if you don’t count Lucina or Morgan). I love Forrest, Midori, Selkie or Kiragi. And Kana cute little angels. Please let me live with my Leo. 😅 1 - Three Houses, yeah we live in the period when community said it’s overrated (5 years by the way). But I love it for the story with Nemesis, all classes are great, characters are great everyone has a favourite (team Petra and Ashe here). So many romances we never forget (Dimileth, Cysithea or Netteflix if you know a bit 😂) but I play so many times. The only FE i finish Lunatic mode without NG+. Thanks for the lecture. And team Blue Lions. 🦁

Well, this is certainly an... odd list to say the least. I'll break down yours before adding my own. 7. Sacred Stones - Considering you've said you've played all of the Fire Emblems and not just the 7 on this list, imma have to disagree on SS being number 7. Personally, I can't stand Sacred Stones. For context, I played this one after playing Awakening and Fates, so the class system of branching paths was something I had already experienced and wasn't entirely shocked about it being in a GBA game. The graphic design of this game is very dreary, and the level design can be anywhere from tedious to decent. The main lords of the game, Ephraim and Eirika, are some of the most poorly written lords I've yet seen, and the game is so poorly designed gameplay-wise that even on the hardest difficult setting, your base prepromote can solo the whole game. Probably the only thing this game has going for it are the villains like Caellach and Selena for example. 6. Engage - This is probably the most consistent one; I'm dead serious, we both have Engage at number 6. I think the thing I like about this game is the overall "cinematography." People give the designs a lotta flak but as someone who has played other series, this stuff is not at all that bad. I've seen way worse. The graphics flow well, the colors pop out, the animations are stunning (especially during combat), and the cutscenes run surprisingly well. The story itself is actually pretty solid (only reason the story is awful in most people's eyes is because it came after 3H and most people consider that game to be the best story-wise). Overall, a very fun game that just missed top 5. 5. Blazing Sword - FE7 is about as average a FE as you can get pre-Awakening. The graphics are okay, the animations are solid, there's plenty of replay value, the lords are okay characters, if not okay units, and the map design is some of the best in the series. Pretty much everything you need in a solid FE is here. 4. Path of Radiance - Top 3 for me, but close enough. Path of Radiance is a game that I felt aged finer than most wines. Easily one of the best rated FE games from players. Took them 10 years and a $300 price tag to figure it out, but they finally learned how good this game is. Ike is a well-written character, the story is one of the better written ones, the characters are fun, the inclusion of the Laguz was a great decision introducing race into the story, and the villains are some of the most hardcore in the series. 3. Radiant Dawn - You dare have the best game in the series at number 3?! Meh, I can respect that. Radiant Dawn is the series I can come back to every time and feel like it's my first time playing. And I always swear to train the Dawn Brigade up every single time. The story is even grander than Path of Radiance, since you get it from 3 sides, and the roots of the conflict in FE9 run deeper than ever expected. The final clash in the Goddess Tower was peak, and Ike gets a perfect sendoff as the story winds down. Also the animations are GOATED both in combat and in cutscenes. 2. Three Houses - I have a love/hate relationship with 3 Houses, mainly because I like the game, but I genuinely despise the community that sings its praises ever since Engage was released. Three Houses was far from my first Fire Emblem. I did like the idea of 3 different houses at first, but as time went own, I found myself liking the game less and less, as the only real differences came from Part 2, and even they were very minimal in 3 out of 4 paths. The animations are also some of the worst in the game and the class balancing is also really bad. Probably the two best things about the game are the story and characters and unless you picked Blue Lions, most have little to do with the actual story in their own route aside from the occasional meetings. Three Houses, on a top 7 list would be making the Honorable Mentions list. 1. Awakening - This game probably means a lot to you, and I get that, but this game is probably between SS and 3H for me. Funny thing is, I like Awakening for one reason, and one reason alone: the Einherjar DLC. I loved fighting these old heroes on their old maps with their soundtrack playing in the background. You wanna know which game did fanservice right? Awakening did. Aside from that, this game is decent. Great story until the Valm conflict, solid animation quality, pair up system being fun to try out, and the support system was *finally* overhauled to allow for multiple supports per playthrough and an S support for married couples. The only issue is the balancing problem. This game couldn't properly manage its difficulty. Normal and Hard were practically too similar to judge, then Lunatic and its + version are basically rolling a D20 for your life. It also doesn't help how badly magic is overpowered in this game, bringing up a class imbalance, as Grandmaster, Sorceror, and Sage were basically the only viable classes to utilize against tougher opponents and had very few limitations. Anyways, thank you for sharing your list, here's mine: 7. Blazing Sword 6. Engage 5. FE 12 - The remake of FE3, FE12 introduced player avatars, essentially the base gimmick from FE9-10, and incorporated a new support system that would eventually grow into the one that Awakening created. The story itself is decent, but the characters are all brought over from FE11 and the graphics have been updated. FE11 and FE12 also have some of the most underrated combat animations in the entire series. 4. Binding Blade (FE6) - This game required a lot of strategy, utilized paralogues really well, and had the benefits of a good/bad ending planned out for its development. Also the map design is god tier. 3. Path of Radiance 2. Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia - Remake of Fire Emblem Gaiden, Echoes brings back the two gaiden protagonists, Alm and Celica, along with a newly fleshed story with some new characters in store. The game was the first to introduce new mechanics like the turnwheel mechanic, brought back tier 3 classes from Radiant Dawn, and also did away with the weapon triangle. The dungeon crawling was a neat aspect of the games too, and the music and voice acting were spectacular. I could go on and on about this game, it was that good. 1. Radiant Dawn - In contention to be my favorite game ever made, Radiant Dawn is a masterpiece and no other FE game will come close to it.
