Dia was great IMO. The idea of seeing the same dead body flop over in front of you repeatedly is both hilarious and unnerving, and the payoff at the end -- waiting for the gate to unlock and turning around to see it standing -- was damn good. Very proud of the Timore dev for this one! Keep up the good work.
@cherrydragon31205 жыл бұрын
They are deffinetly learning. And it was indeed a little unnerving to see the body fall over and do nothing constantly. You really don't trust it yet it does force you to come closer to it. And the constant population shift for whenever the body moves or drops dead. Good atmosphere. Could have made the city a bit more filled in with random stuff like benches, bus stops, trashcans, maybe flower pots next to doors or windows etc. Maybe a car on parked on the side. Make it a bit more lively or abandoned. Atmosphere boost when you see that an actual city has been abandoned. Rather then an empty street with a few lamp posts here and there
@jyuppiter45405 жыл бұрын
You remember that horror game john played (I believe it was also a RHG video) where he was a woman coming back from a party or something and there was a supposedly stalker following her? Never in that game did the killer show up IIRC, but the atmosphere was so heavy, the scenario felt so real, it made me ultra scared. The idea of someone following you at 3AM when you're drunk and with a low charge is terrifying and realistic. Horror games don't need red or a bad modelled monster to be scary, and that's why I like these games so much

John missed it but there was pregnancy test sitting on the sink across from the bottle of pills there at the end of the game. I think you can connect the dots about what two lines on a pregnancy test means and what that would imply towards the overall theme of the game.

The 'Don't Open Your Eyes' game actually got me a little bit. Idk if it'd have the same effect on people who don't have sleep paralysis, but a lot of times when I sleep I have that feeling of someone standing over me touching my arm or something. The voice saying that it knows the player is awake scared me too lmao. Because that's always how I feel. "Just pretend I'm still asleep until I can wake up fully and move around."
@CEO0FMILFS5 жыл бұрын
Gotta say the game got to me like with the whispering and eyeball imagery, Like my hair was sticking up the entire time.
@chocobro31985 жыл бұрын
Yeah it got to me a bit too. Sleep paralysis can be so easily mistaken for spiritual crap going on. I don't even believe in such stuff though I don't rule out there could be ethereal stuff going on but I've just never been proven that it does to be convinced. But this one time, a few years ago, I woke up to feeling someone stroke my head and then a whisper into my ear, saying: "Hey... Hey, wake up..." I could even feel their breath slam against my ear. I first thought my mother had somehow entered my apartment since she has a key. But then when I tried to answer saying I was awake I couldn't. My body wouldn't respond, and I felt this odd pressure on my head and lungs as if I was about to pass out and not able to breathe, and then my whole body started to feel heavier too. My heart was racing and I struggled to move for a while, until I could finally move my arms and open my eyes. No one was there... And the usual rational logical me was so startled that I was seriously thinking for a moment that this was it, this could be the proof. So yeah, for a moment I honestly considered the possibility that it could have been a spirit trying to possess my body for a second cause it felt that way. xD But I always like to find logical explanations proven by science, so I went to read up about this sleep paralysis and was like: "That's it! Oh thank the world there is a logical explanation for it." LOL Still, even knowing that now, it doesn't make it less terrifying when it happens though, it's so freaky.
@Vic_Trip5 жыл бұрын
It just got me back to a nightmare (or sleep paralysis episode) where a dark figure was just lurking above me, staring. No face, no features, just like the beginning of the game. It's fucking terrifying. All I wanted was to "look away" but I couldn't get it out of "my sight" it was like a stuck camera. My head was pounding.

Don't Open Your Eyes kind of speaks to an irrational fear I have too, where things move around my room and bed while I try to sleep. Mainly, that if I lay on my side and tuck my hair behind my ear, I'll suddenly feel someone brush it/ whisper into it. It was interesting how they did the black and white version to show what we're imagining. But... the weird emo philosophy monster is not a part of my irrational fear.

@mattreevesdev5 жыл бұрын
@@rainbowrambo7093 Totally agree. Aesthetics only stimulate one of your senses, and can maybe conjure up genuine fear if done right. Vidas has a really cool approach to horror, and I'm really excited to see what games come out of it.
@OrangeStrayCat5 жыл бұрын
Sadly I think the neat ideas and concepts only really started in Timore 6. The others were all pretty terrible even past the visual design, and mostly consisted of nothing happening while mannequins watched. I actually really enjoyed Don’t Open Your Eyes. Thought it was a neat, visually minimalistic concept, and utilized the “don’t show your audience too much of the monster” rule of horror very well (how many great horror movies went bad after the monster reveal?). It got a bit too wordy to back up said minimalistic visual style; some vaguer, less flowery dialogue would’ve helped it a lot. Also Timore Dev is getting a lot better and I’m super happy for them! It seems like they’ve learned a lot since their first few games, and their monster designs and new, clever twists are awesome. Timore Dev, keep on trucking along! You’re doing great!!

Dia: Dang, the Timore dev's doing some good stuff! Keep it up! Two Lines: This one was interesting to watch from a visual perspective, but I didn't find it all that intriguing otherwise. Nothing wrong with it, especially for being made for a game jam, but it didn't do much for me. Look For Me: I really liked this one until the end dialogue. That went on way too long and spelled out too much. I think it'd have been a lot better to let the players make their own conclusions. A Late Night: Well, if it is a child that made this, props to them for trying. Better to do it this way than to just jump on a bunch of asset packs. But... yeah. Don't Open Your Eyes: I really liked this one until the monster started spouting its dreary thoughts on everything. I usually love dialogue-based games, yet this one didn't do it for me. I think it's because the monster went on way too long for each section rather than continuing the conversation. Great aesthetics, though! It'd be cool to see more in this style. Don't Close Your Eyes: The symbol thing is interesting. The rest... nope. Devout: Please no.

I did recognize the way the model(s) looked on the first game. It's cool to see the improvements Timore dev is making to their games. And this one was free, you said? That's really cool. Two Lines was cool too. It was crazy how the city transitioned into an upside down city. Look for me was also real good. Liked the concept. A Late Night? Hmm... Don't Open Your Eyes was interesting. I guess it's meant to be sorta atmospheric and creepy, but the way the shadow dude keeps talking seemed a bit much. Don't close your eyes was pretty lousy, but the spell tracing mechanic was kinda neat. Devout just felt like looking into the past with all the jumpscare maps and stuff. Though I guess that's still a thing nowadays, people thinking that wandering around empty spaces with jumpscares constitutes gameplay.
