I'm 30 and contemplating my first hamster! ^_^ I like how their homes can be decorated and made to look fun. Sort of like tropical fish aquariums only much easier to look after. I got my Syrian, Berry for my 22nd birthday. Best present ever! I loved getting her a huge 650sq inch bin cage and filling it with bedding, hides and toys. Watching her wash in the sand was my favourite! She was very good company, loved to cuddle. She passed on Monday last week though, I only had her for 5 months ☹️ You don’t realise how much you’ll love them! I went two nights without her when she’d passed and not hearing her wheel at night was so sad, I was very lonely and lost without someone to love and look after! I got my new friend, a tiny 7 week old syrian called Aldo on the Wednesday. He’s the total opposite of her, not shy, he actually plays with his toys and he squeaks a lot which is sweet. I’m so heartbroken Berry passed but so grateful I’ve made another little friend! I think you should 100% get one, you’ll have so much fun! And where they wake at night, you have something to look forward to even after you’ve finished work lol. And as an adult and watching Victoria’s vids, you’ll give your little pal the BEST care! I’m so glad I didn’t ever have a hamster until 22 as I’d feel so guilty about my childhood hamsters 😂 get one! You’ll be so happy you did x

@@bree7830 that sounds great and a little sad but with another friend to fall in love with. To be fair I've always liked the idea of getting a small pet and giving them all the space I can. We don't have rescues where I live so it will have to be from a pet shop (no big chains either though) but I love the idea of getting a little guy or gal and giving him/her the best life I possibly can.

@@bree7830 for now we're still working on the house, but once we're settled I think we will get one. I like the idea of a fish tank and aqua scaping but I don't want the hassle of water changes etc, so making a naturalistic cage with many elements is so up my alley. I don't understand why keeping rodents is deemed for children, when keeping fish and reptiles is considered a hobby suitable for adults. Rodents do have many needs and special care requirements that children just wouldn't be able to manage on their own, and like you said with them being most active once work and dinner/supper done. I have 3 hamsters now. I just adopted one on Wednesday. Her name is Missy Maple and she was up for adoption, because her one eye burst and now she only has one eye, but since she got home shes doing great! She didnt get a wheel for months or enough to burrow. Now shes lovin life!

Awww, so glad she is doing well now, thank you for taking her in 😊 I have a rescue boy who was given away too young, but had been living the first 4 weeks of his life in maybe 3 inches of bedding, most being hay, no hides, no water and a wheel that was way too small. His body was locked in constant "stress-reaction mode" for weeks and weeks, and I didn't think he'd make it long. But now he is thriving, too 😊 It's so heart warming to see them start living not just surviving, and I am so glad she is doing so with you 💛

As long as you and your hamster want. If you notice that he/she is getting uncomfortable put him/her in its cage again. If you don't have time anymore, put him/her back too. As long as you AND your hamster are happy, you can keep him/her out😊

A few days ago, I had a really bad day at Had 3 asthma attacks, and had to go to the ER for oxygen. We were so short staffed, that I had to finish my shift. Anyways, I went home, did my normal routine, then I sat down by my hamsters enclosure. She darted out of her hide, and came to the door. I opened her enclosure and she ran up my arm and placed her little paws on my cheek, and proceeded to kiss my cheek, as if to say "It's okay!" I immediately felt better, she continues to do this whenever I'm stressed, so I wonder, if, like dogs and cats, she can sense how I'm feeling.

Unfortunately, I no longer have said hamster. Three weeks ago she escaped from her enclosure during the night. I sat small bowls of food and treats out for her in various areas of my apartment. I even purchased another hamster, thinking she'd smell it and eventually come out of hiding. Unfortunately, she has yet to reappear. Every now and then, I'll be sitting at the kitchen table and think I hear her. I even call her name.. 😔🥺😭

When it comes to cuteness... I remember my hamster putting his front paws on my cheek(I was lieing down) and sniffing, so this tiny nose and whiskers would move, and man... That was so so so adorable! I could barely stop myself from melting at such moments! Or the other moment, when one of my hamsters would start playing with a small ball - I believe he would've been a great football player, if he was human. One more cute moment I remember is when my first female would lie down right next to me - I kept petting her and watching along with her... ANIMAL COPS! XD I wish such cute animals would live longer!

​ @Victoria Raechel One more cute situation - once I made something like a nest from quilt and decided to check my hamster's reaction - he already knew me, my mom and most smells in our flat... I showed him the nest and after checking it, my hamster decided to take a nap in it. I lied down right next to him, but without falling a sleep and just enjoyed that moment, being kinda surprised he trusted me that much and yet that he enjoyed such an untypical for a hamster nest! It was adorable and interesting. I didn't wanna wake him up 'cause he looked like a ball of fur and - as it looked he felt safe - I just kept watching him. Later he woke up, I took him back to the cage, so he could eat something and do his own things, and - as far as I remember - later we got to play together, so our bond would be strenghten. I gotta tell that I really enjoyed checking my hamsters' reactions to different things and always tried my best to provide them with safety. Your hamsters are cute and remind me of my Syrians.

I love hamsters, they are the best. My Syrian Hamster Lilly is 1 1/2 years old. My dwarf hamster will be 1 years old Jan 20th. My dwarf hamster doesnt like to be held but she always greets me. My Syrian Hamster Lilly lets me hold her and she acts like she truly understands what I'm saying. They really help with my anxiety.
