I live in a place where the right to bear arms is recognized. Our church on a Sunday has more guns than you’ll see on a gun range, even if you don’t visibly see them at the church

Having a firearm and being able to use it efficiently, effectively and safely are two entirely different things. It takes training. In my opinion the security team needs to train as a group at least 1 day every month and firearms qualification should be required every 6 mos. De-escalation techniques, pressure point control tactics, observation skills, proper use of pepper spray and expandable baton training should be included in their training. Without training all you have is a bunch of warm bodies carrying pistols. Warm bodies = law suits. Law suits can sink a congregation.

This is exactly what I experienced as the head of security at my former church. The leadership wanted to check a box to appease people but they really did not support what we as security did. We were blamed for all the church's security problems but it was mostly the pastors and staff not being security minded that caused the issues.

Another reason ministries suffer and fail is the lack of consistency from the volunteers. Ends up saddling the few who are truly committed with the burden of the entire ministry, resulting in their burnout.

I’m new to the church security team at my church, whereas just recently we had a changing of the guards so to speak where new leader ship has stepped in to do security. Gratefully, the church I attend realizes how important Security is and we all volunteer security as part of a ministry of helps, so it was great to hear what you said about that. I have been looking for various information on church security and this is how I found you on KZbin.

I’m security for my wife and I at Church and everywhere else. Why at Church? Because I’m a 30+ year of service retired LEO and was sacked by a 20 something year old “elder” and his team of mostly 20 something security guys. I’ve been asked by the worship leader if I’d still protect others if trouble came. My response is of course, right after I get my wife to safety. #8- refusing to take counsel from professionals in security because they’re not youngsters.

You are spot-on regarding no change in church security or feeling like we're not making a change. To be candid, like a lot of things in life we grow comfortable in what we do and inadvertently stimy any growth in that area, and church security is no exception. I find myself very frustrated when another team that is on and I'm able to worship with my family, they don't have enough members to cover the parking lot/perimeter...and don't think it's a big deal. I tell them often to let me know if they are short-handed, I will pull a double if thats what it takes. They never ask. It's like 50% of the teams train on their personal time in an attempt to be the best they can be(and I mean train in all areas, not just firearm training), 25% do not train but DO carry(which scares me), the remaining 25% have a pulse and thats about it. That last 25% are the ones that seldom show up for scenario based training on Saturdays. And then there is this (really dumb) mindset that a lot of folks still have and they will even make comments like "you know how many people are armed in our church??? A bad actor wouldn't stand a chance!". I just shake my head, that should NEVER be the mindset of a protector. My thoughts instantly go to "how many innocent people would be killed in that scenario?"

This was timely to just appear on my feed this Sunday morning. I am a long time volunteer in a church security ministry. I have recently been promoted to running a satellite church building (our church has multiple buildings but considered one big family). And boy, it’s been an eye opener. I miss the support we had back where I was. What I’ve gotten since I just took over this month is “we are so thankful you are here….. but don’t cost us money.” I’m ok with that to some degree - for years I’ve provided my own equipment. But we need some medical supplies that aren’t being pilfered by the youth group when someone skins a knee and nobody tells us, and I’d sure like to have an AED box so it isn’t just hiding in a corner (and I’ve been told even that was a donation from county sheriff office). I think I’m going to work around the issue by just financing it myself over time. If supplies just “show up” I’m sure I won’t hear about it

In 2022 the Israeli prime minister urged citizens to carry their firearms during worship service due to the violence taking place. I personally don't subscribe to any religion but I want my religious friends and family to be safe when worshiping, and that can only happen if some people are carrying a firearm (and preferrably trained for active shooter situations).

My wife n I are now in our second church with profound armed security, uniformed and greyman. I applaud their presence! For years attending Presbyterian churches no knowable security was present. These two I mention are by name non-denom's but are Baptist in governance. Is security a denominational thing? I pray not, that it be a wisdom thing yes. Catch up Presbys!

I have seen churches with "greymen" in the sanctuary, as well as in the choir. Letting it "slip" that there are armed people in places around, without saying how many or where is good, as long as it is not a whisper with no backup.

Security fails in addition: no overall plan or control for who is carry a gun on the team: what ammo is used. I know church security who carry ball ammo, go thru the bad guy and hit a church member. A basis notion and is over looked. Second, no training of the church members. What do people, untrained do when hear gun shot? Get up and run, now you have people between the target and the church security.

Our church has what they call a "security team". They have cameras in various locations. But no one is armed because the pastor is against firearms period. I don't call that a security team at all, because a gunman would have no problem if he ever got inside.

Actually I have seen all 7 reasons acting out, albeit not in the majority of the congregation. However, what matters in my family is that I will not attend church anywhere I am not allowed to protect my family. I carry concealed so no one should feel threatened... and let's face facts here: if an active shooter attacks us they will most likely be carrying a long gun, something church security cannot do without causing the "gun free" crowd to fall back on their brain washing even if it kills some of us.

When there are shootings, the staff is all about security. After a while though, they get complacent and the anti-gunners start whining about how they feel unsafe around those who are armed. The majority approve of security, but the whiners are much louder and more obnoxious. You can talk to them all you care to, but liberals cannot be placated as they feel they are more important than others.

God allows this to happen, or he can't stop it from happening. Therefore, God is responsible. If I give a child a pack of matches and he burns a house down, it would be my fault for giving a child matches. But God gives us matches and when bad things happen it our "free will"? see the disconnect? We are supposed to be God's children and he allowed us to develop and USE nuclear weapons? Hmmm or perhaps, he isn't real. Logic points that way.
