I recently gifted a sketchbook to my girlfriend and she doesn't think her drawings are works of art but i tell her its fun doodles and not every artist or work of art started out a masterpiece. A sketchbook is for practice and fun. Her art is so cute and she likes to add poems or phrases alongside her art. She enjoys it even though sometimes she has a hard time with perfectionalism. I told her everyone started somewhere even the famous artists practiced until they got where they are today.

@@JayofallTrades I remember, as a self-taught mixed media artist, realizing one day that those of us who have the urge to create visual art don’t have to be Picasso or Matisse or da Vinci to be “artists.” There’s a whole world of wonderful art to see and to make out there by motivated, creative “ordinary” folks who study and practice what we love. Because it makes us happy. Maybe we’ll display our work, maybe we’ll enter it in art shows, and maybe we’ll sell it. And maybe we won’t do any of those things. Art is a form of self expression from which I believe everyone can benefit!

I really relate, especially to “I was never taught to draw”, so true for me too. I believe that ‘average’ students often miss out on the encouragement and support those who are clever or struggling receive.
@MicheleEngel4 ай бұрын
@@flis625 That’s a great point about the lack of attention to “average” students. That’s exactly what happened to me, now that I think about it. I took art in every single year of middle school and high school and usually got a B or B- each semester. Never any type of personal attention, encouragement, or support. There was one outstanding exception in 8th grade when my teacher reported to my parents, apparently with some excitement, that she thought I was very creative-a report I’ve obviously remembered to this day (and I’m 70 years old now and have taught myself to be a mixed media artist because-you guessed it!-you can make beautiful things without knowing how to draw). I had been taking ballet lessons for many years when I was in 8th grade, and this particular teacher, who knew I went home every day after school, put on broadway musical albums, and danced to my heart’s content, invited me to demonstrate that to my entire art class. She was way ahead of her time as an art teacher who truly understood the meaning of art and creativity. 👏🏼

It's really fit for me, I don't like using anything else aside from a 0.5 pen and a 0.7 pen and my acrytic markers. This really matches my likings, and all I drew were weird lines that might signify coral reefs, my feeling that day, or simply nothing. The fourth idea would be sooo helpful to me so that I can continue my lines. I don't have much options, but when I could, I would also try adding a blue line between those black lines.

I really like the first idea you made with the leaves, so I did something similar but with one of my own pictures as reference and a sepia liner. The result isn't amazing but not terrible either, and it was quite fun ! At least I did something. I also like to sketch with a ballpoint pen, this type of pen can give different opacity depending on the pressure you apply so it gives a different look. Well, Paula, I haven't tried art since high school and I'm old, but I have to make my channel work. KZbin wants original art for sleep videos and I can not afford an artist so I have to try myself. My second one was better than the first, but I see mistakes. So I am moving onto watercolor paints for my sketchbook to make art faster than colored pencils. Maybe I can add ink and colored pencil to the dried watercolor paint. Oh well, It's an experiment. Thanks Paula, I never would have even tried without your videos. You inspire me.😻💖

I love all of your ideas Paula! Nothing makes me happier than watching another artist doodle in their sketchbook. I think I’m working in four sketchbooks right now. 😂 I’m addicted!

Love the black and white, but would LOVE to see those teapots colored. :) Maybe make a copy, and color for us, please?

I bought my first sketchbook ever just a while ago and these videos have been so helpful! I'm a perfectionist and I'va always seen myself as a mediocre drawer. I want to create something I enjoy drawing without having too much pressure for it to be perfect. That's why this kind of practise is just the type I need, having fun without too much expectations about the end results. Thanks for sharing these ideas with us! ☺️
