Whether artist or tech' (I'm a man of many hats)... I learned most of it the same way. I screwed up crap and destroyed projects and equipment until I figured out how to do stuff properly. Some of it had good information available in books, and sometimes I got good instruction from mentors. Experience is still directly correlated to the amount of stuff rendered to ruination. I'm not going to tell you not to replay missteps in your head. We should reflect on the details of how and when or where things went sideways. It's how our failures teach us more than our successes. I WILL tell you that I've screwed up more than I've gotten done right, and that I'm still screwing things up from time to time. That's perfectly normal. Reflect, learn, and then understand that it's JUST a mistake and means nothing. It's only an experience that taught you something (hopefully) or refined something that earlier mistakes had led up to. Then move on to either try it again, go back and fix it as applicable and appropriate, or get into the next project. In art, we say, "screw up the first one... study it... do it again... screw it up just a little better... study it... do it again... and repeat until you're happy with the results." There are even artists who advise you to "screw it up faster so you can improve easier"... The bottom line is, being human, it's normal to screw stuff up. There's no need to put yourself down because of it. AND the only true form of failure is to quit. I've even gone back to build a project after I've been told it was no longer my project. I did that JUST so I could apply what I'd learned in the fails... and to find out if I COULD finally finish the thing. ;o)

@@SamElle It doesn't really even matter if you've got an interest in drawing or painting or not... It's a fun little vid' and he's a little "dry" in his humor, but amusing while he really shows how to go back to examine the work done with an interest in improving for work TO BE done. I've found it helps to have someone tell you (even in video) that it's okay to not be perfect... In fact, to encourage you to be imperfect and just keep going. SO when you feel a bit down, or find you're beating yourself up, maybe hit the bookmark and play it again... It can help. ;o)

I have come to realise that I've mixed being realistic with being pessimistic. It is not that I want to view everything negatively. It is just that I get let down when I think optimistically. And somehow that feels worse than always thinking negatively. That sinking feeling in your gut when happiness fades😣. There seems to always be a catch. And that's why it somehow feels easier to see it pessimiscally, and be disappointed but not surprised.

SAME. People tell me things like "you're so hard on yourself" and my response is "I'm realistic." And I think many people are so UNrealistic about themselves because they think more highly of themselves than I feel they should. But whatever, no one cares what my opinion is so.... -shrug-

As someone apparently swimming in all of these on a daily basis, I have one recommendation: routine de-cluttering. I've recently selected the last Sunday of every month to clean the house in the morning, and do my finances in the afternoon (i.e. log that month's transactions in a spreadsheet). 3 months in and this is absolutely working for me. The house is cleaner, I understand my money more, and I'm starting to relax about these two aspects of my life. It gets easier each time. It's working for me, maybe it'll work for you too. Take care.

I’m not encouraging u to always be like this, but at this moment, this shitty moment that ur having, ur meant to go through it. But, I also want to add this...take responsibility for whatever action ur taking. This doesn’t mean that u should look down on urself the fact that ur not productive, but I’m just saying...don’t be like blaming urself for not getting anywhere bc if ur sabotaging urself or whatever other negative actions ur taking is brining u down, well that is what it is supposed to do. AND today I just got a job at a cafe in the heart of the city - a job I had been dreaming of getting. Even down to little things like being self conscious of the way I move or my handwriting or my voice and the way my face changes according to expressions. I feel awkward in my body and see a caricature of myself instead of reality. It’s been worse since the pandemic as that’s beaten me down considerably in too if the fact that I suffer with Asperger’s syndrome which brings distress from a lot of sensory factors and changing routines for me. Ughh, it’s so annoying! I’ve has these thoughts for SO long! I remember it going back to like, elementary and me just telling my parents all these things, them taking me to a bad psychologist that even when told all my symptoms didn’t do anything and wasn’t helping me at all. I even had severe migraines (probably because of my extreme burnout, loneliness and friends leaving) which got so severe I had to sit out multiple days and sometimes weeks because of them. I had to pretend that I had *magically* lost those thoughts and symptoms to stop worrying my parents and to stop going to the therapist. I had used those ‘masks’ I made for so long.. And only now have I realized the toll these have taken on my life, how much built up self doubt, sabotage and problems built up throughout the span of multiple years and how I had to grow, learn and improve myself, my journey to self improvement and calmness of mind. I started this journey a couple months ago but hard work, dedication, constant support from others and a good attitude has helped me, and to all of you also struggling remember these four things: Hard work and dedication pays off, Being vulnerable isn’t a weakness but just letting yourself feel emotions, holding a grudge isn’t healthy And hurting yourself helps no one and makes everything harder for everyone.

it turns out, constantly doing and being extra can take a toll on your mental health.Overcommitments lead to self-sabotage in a variety of ways. For example, taking too much leads to not being able to finish everything you start. The feelings of guilt and obligation associated with overcommitment make it difficult to speak up for yourself or set healthy boundaries.Overcommitment sets you up to constantly put yourself last, which just makes stress worse.Overcommitment leaves you open to constantly being asked to do just one more thing, give just a little more

I can certainly confirm that my grades have made a turn for the worst, and this is coming from someone who usually performs well. My mother says my anxiety medication may need adjusting, and while I do agree that that's probably one of the big factors, I think that I was also simply not emotionally and mentally ready to go back to classes for the fall semester because of the pandemic. But maybe I'm wrong or just overthinking, which are both very me things for me to do.

I've been sabotaging myself for a few months now. I was under a ton of stress and pressure at work, to the point where I could not handle anything anymore, that I left my job. I do not regret it because I have been meaning to spend my time on studying and pursuing higher studies, but being on your own, trying to find your own schedule when you don't have work commitments to show up to, is hard. And I have not been able to recover from it. I see all the signs of sabotaging in me, on a daily, infact every moment basis. I have been wasting away my days, knowing I am a burden (as of right now) on my parents for support and I can't seem to be able to fight it.

Burned out made me quit my previous job right away since every time I’m going to work, I cried on the way and started to neglect my responsibilities after 4 years working there. Now I realized I was happier in my previous job. Was my decision too rushed?

Awww i know what that feels like i hope you have a good day today, just focus on one day at a time and not on all of them together. And when you feel grateful or happy about something say it out loud, so that your mind realizes that yes, you had a fun/happy moment. Im also struggling through some really tough situations but i hope you and me, and every other person who is struggling makes it out alive, and i hope we all find our happiness 🥺🥺♥️

@@Supernova-217 Ohh, thank you 💕. In fact, for a couple of days now I've been doing better. Just as you say - one day at a time. I've started a journal and try to set small, achievable goals. It'd unbelievably hard to start anything when burdened with a perspective of changing everything in one fell swoop. What's more, from my experience, even small steps are hard when the mind is in a dark place. It's easy to see some things when you're feeling better but while you're not... And I'm icredibly lucky to have a possibility to take things slow.

Hey Psych2go! Thank you so much of this video! I can definitely relate to some of these. Especially clutter, waiting till the last minute, taking more than I ca chew aka doing it all, and not viewing my self as good enough. I know during my beginning college years I had these but now not so much. I definitely stay away from the self down talk which really mess me up emotionally. The self doubt is a battle but its going away the more I know myself.

I saw a post on self sabotage online and I just realise that I have been self sabotaging myself for the past few years. Even though I am a perfectionist and I usually do well in areas of my life, I always find myself self sabotaging myself and having a hard time to get out of that and trying to do my best. I just hope that I am easier with myself, I hope that I won’t be afraid of failing and I hope I’ll grow. I just hope I’ll love myself more :(

We tend to think other people have it so much better than us, maybe thats why. Truth is everyone has their own struggles, even if their struggle isnt the same as yours it doesnt mean they dont have things at the back of their mind keeping them awake. There are times in iur lives when ee do get to sleep peacefully, and i hope that everyone experiences it and i hope it lasts for everyone, including me :

what helped me get over my self sabotage like procrastination and binge eating was going on a deeper journey where I got free from the fears and beliefs that were keeping me tethered to sabotaging behaviors. I've been free from all of that for over a decade now. For me it wasn't about trying to make changes at the level of the actual behavior, it was deeper than that.

This is so strange the I stumbled onto this video. I sabotaged myself on Friday. Instead of rescheduling an important test I failed bigtime. If I had taken it more seriously I'd be in a very different place today. What's even more strange I've been stressing over it all weekend and when woke up this morning my phone had a notification from a channel about meditation and in the headline it read "healing from self-sabotage", I kid you not. Next thing I know I'm here. The planet is guiding me for sure. I know what needs to be done going forward. GOD speed!
