Today is the last day of my micromanaged job. I am starting my own business next month. Might initially be a struggle, but I am determined to be my own boss

Sometimes we think we need to start our own gig, but in reality we could be successful anywhere !

You could always go back to start a business

Micromanagement comes from a lack of trust. That is the issue.

The biggest issue is the company won't approve a vacation. Months out. Still denied. Because the upper mgmt work 7 days a week due to being divorced/alone and expects everyone else to be miserable too

Do NOT agree that the team has to do MORE when the problem lies with the supervisor.

This hurts the entire team. Why not get rid of the root problem aka the micromanager?

What is defined as a vacation? Only a four day weekend or a full week off?

Hahaha! The solution is so obvious, just take a vacation! Just get out! Right. Most companies are very apprehensive with barely giving you a week let alone two or three. And let's be honest, people that make decent money with families even with a 'low cost' trip just can't afford it. Period. House, mortgage, cars, insurance, utilities, retirement, an oh sh*t fund, etc... not much left over. I agree that people need to commit more to having a healthier quality of life - but quite frankly, our environment and society is not reflective or conducive to that sentiment any longer. Surely a defense can be had against that opinion, but middle class America is shrinking and that is observable and felt. We will all see in good time that the times are changing and not exactly for the better for the USA at least.
