Best ENFP description to date. Most people don't catch our depth. Thank you for explaining how we can see, and often navigate, creative ways around problems and/or to realize our dreams. We can't realize ALL of our dreams. I mean. It's constant! And the constant weird associations we make for our own and others entertainment is SO FUN! We do understand other people well, or at least we want to. Usually we can win them over. Not necessarily change their mind about something, but make them feel understood because they are with us. People often open up to us and don't know why. Someone mentioned in the comments how we seem so happy, but can be depressed. Been there. Done that. Bought the T-Shirt. I'm not sure why. Partly because we are misunderstood maybe? I do love that we can connect to almost anyone because we have a broad knowledge base. Thank You Ne for my love of consuming KZbin videos and other sources of information all the time. I could go on, but you captured it well Eric! Thank You!

I was part of the depressed/happy group too (also ENFP). I think part of it is that I was in a pretty stressful home environment, but I also didn't feel I was allowed to be unhappy with the situation, so I sort of ended up turning it onto myself. Same thing when things went wrong with other people, I just turned it all inward, but outward I wouldn't let people see how upset I was if I could really help it. I didn't like to be so vulnerable I guess. Plus, I think it's a common thread that we tend to feel a little alienated most of the time. Even when I had a ton of friends, I often still felt slightly out of sync with everyone. I guess it's cos I pretty well live in social gray zones, I never 100% fit in with a group. Even if people like you, you can't help but feel deep down that slight disconnect, or to know that they like you but they don't fully know you, etc.

ENFP descriptions tend to be pretty bland and generic, misrepresenting what is in reality a totally inspiring and dynamic type that never fails to leave a mark on the world around them. I find the Te of this type to be innovative and capable for jumbling a seemingly impossible amount of different projects alongside eachother, all the while remaining true to an often deeply compassionate and humanitarian identity. Totally awesome type, and an absolute joy to work alongside!

@@alexandra9944 I think ENFP uses that extrovert part to find what group he can meet and be with (to feel happy and excited) so then you see an ENFP exploring the club, or wherever she or he is at to see what can new thing he can find; and then if he isn't having a good time just goes straight home to search there. I'm not sure how INFP would do instead, but maybe he would've stayed talking with who approached him or her or would've gone home directly. Some INFP's help us here :P

this kinda made me wanna cry. I'm ok with people thinking I'm strange-- i want that. But I guess I didn't want to realize that I'm alone in the way I think. That's the most terrifying thing I've ever considered. To be alone not in space or desire, or aesthetic, but in THOUGHT. That's true isolation. And I've never wanted to know that. But it makes so much sense when I look at how I've always interacted with people. It's sad because it's made me always cater to other people's way of thinking as a default. I always re-wire how I say things or how I think things even, depending on the person I'm with. Because they can never seem to get on my wavelength, the only solution is for me to be on theirs. But what about my wavelength? I'm not able to travel it while I'm with other people because it literally makes me feel like a freak, or like I'm being inconsiderate and reckless. But it feels so good when I do still. I can't reconcile.

wow.....THIS!! it really comforts me to see someone else feel the same way, i ALWAYS feel like a fruitloop weirdo, but I like thinking and existing in my own way too much. it's a very conflicting feeling. i think that's the enfp journey of growth, you start to choose yourself more and more over people-pleasing. people-pleasing is only satisfying for as long as you don't want to choose yourself. it was a sad truth to discover, as i quickly understood i wouldn't find more kindred souls via the ways we're taught to socialise. i'm happy with my social life at the moment, sure no one person is on the same wave-length as me, but getting on their wave-length is pleasant, it's still engaging a lot of the 'true me', so it's like i can be my true self, just a piece at a time, and with a good, varied bunch of close friends, it's kind of like a fairly complete puzzle. still isolating, though. it'd be nice to be able to be seen as my whole self all at once. i have hope i'll meet someone like that one day. but i can see the complete puzzle, so for now that's okay.

I totally relate. People can be quite rude about my personality. They think I'm stupid because I'm always using comedy and am nice to a fault. I'm older and I think we tend to attract narcissistic people who like to use emotional abuse. Learned that the hard way and now I have PTSD but I'm still the child-like person who loves to have fun and loves very big. Hey other "quirky people" out there. I love you and you should love you too. We are beautiful even in ugliness. ❤

I could not relate more to a video! Often people call me naive when I come up with ideas for new adventures, and often I understand the hard reality of making those ideas come to life, but the fantasy side of me always has hope that it is possible! Lots of people seem to think that I'm living in a whole different world, and often it's because I try to rebel against pessimism as I can't see any way being pessimistic is helpful to the world! I've always struggled to explain to people that although I'm an extrovert, I can spend plenty of time alone, and often sharing my ideas on a platform such as KZbin or Twitch is a sufficient way to get my ideas out to a small group of people! Although I do enjoy getting to know people in a deeper way through discussion, and the idea of exploring a little bit of everything instead of doing one thing for years on end is very attractive to me! This is a great description of an ENFP and how I, as an ENFP identify!

While Fe doms read rooms can in groups become highly agreeable, ENFP's read the room and create a 1 man show with jokes and all. I'm not sure if they do this to be liked themselves or if they just wanna enterttain the room. ENFP's on the surface seems one of the happiest types, but the amount of enfp's I've known over the years which were actually depressed was higher than any other group (though they still appeared 'happy' in groups). It kinda reminds me of the proportially high degree of comedians who seem 'happy' on stage, but depressed in real life.

I can relate. I'm an ENFP and used to struggle a lot with depression, and yeah, I basically always tried to put on a good face for other people, and I guess also cos I didn't want all my personal stuff out in front of everyone. Sometimes I was alright and able to sort of be in the moment, but then when I was alone with my thoughts, I'd just feel so poorly.

Yes I can agree with some of what you say... and it is true that we can get depressed but it is because we have a very strong empathetic nature and feel other people’s pain because we put ourselves into their place. Compassion requires seeing not only the good in life but also the bad. We want to affect other people’s world and try to bring some light into their lives but we can become overwhelmed with such an arduous task. We can also have an overwhelmingly exuberance towards life because we also notice the good in people more so that any other person. That being said I would never exchange my compassion towards others for self serving happiness.

As an enfp my parents fully embraced and supported my personality. My dad that just past away always listened to my new ideas and saw the end of it as a complete success before i had even started. My mother was a saint that had to kindly remind me of reality but didn’t have the heart to. I remember escaping home on an adventure with my neighbor’s stolen hamster as a pet when i was 10 ... i was so excited to live from house to house and sleep under the starts. When i came back home at 11 o’clock after realizing my plan wasn’t very feasible my mom just hugged me and listened to my story. She only made me apologize to my neighbor for stealing her hamster.

While I had a managerial job, I would always score as an ENFJ, but I didn't see it as 'me' for 100%. Now without a job having some chill time at home, without a need to tell a team, what to do, I scored as ENFP, and that's a total eye opening to me. Indeed I can't live without new information!! I need to view, read, listen to, look at; find where the truth is and look from every perspective. I dislike large groups of uncomfortable people, but at the same time it's not a problem for me to ask a complete stranger, what brand of shoes are they wearing, because I'd like to buy the same. I'm not totally in the clouds, though, and I love planning. Because without planning I'm a jelly fish 😆

Yes! Yes! All of what you is true for me too. I grew up with a pretty unhealthy ESFJ authority figure in my life and I have been working and hustling since I was 14. I always tested as an ENFJ until I was finally in a place in life where I could relax and just explore myself and my wants more and boom, I tested as ENFP and it actually felt right on as opposed to the ENFJ who I resonate with a bit but I'm not organized like that. I too have an insatiable desire for the next new thing or idea or concept to explore and I LOVE 1 on 1 connections as opposed to larger groups.

Yeah, as an ENFP, the bit about being yourself regardless of what others think & how they wanna sort of control you is a big thing. It's part of why I like punk & 80s rock music so much, a lot of it is about being yourself, being okay with life as it is, overcoming tough circumstances, etc. Sometimes it's a comfort to remember that other people's opinions aren't everything. "We'll tell you who you are We'll tell you that you're close but no cigar But I don't wanna hear it No, it's more than I accept 'Cause I don't care where I belong no more What we share or not I will ignore And I won't waste my time fitting in 'Cause I don't think contrast is a sin"

What you say truly speaks to me, and make me feel not so alone in my way of being! You have truly understood us ENFPs Erik! The struggling with conversations, without letting my real thoughts and imaginations sip through... It really doesn't surprised me anymore when I let a part of my imagination in to the conversation and the person gives me a weird look, but it does feel like a bit of a disappointment when that happens. The thing you said about realistic impossibilities is so true!! Something that you can do, but that is going to be very difficult to achieve and to be far off hahahaha! And then to try to find out how to get there and find out about all these annoying real life steps that you have to take is so difficult, and administrative work oh no... But the funny thing is that I, at the end of the day, still manage to make it happen if I try and then I end up living this adventure! Life is wonderful that way. And the best thing that can happen, that happens extremely extremely rarely (almost never in my case), that truly gets me high, is when you have a true and deep connection with someone and your minds are just intertwining and there is electricity and sparks and excitement because you can really understand each other on a whole different level. But that rarely happens to me haha. Another thing that have been a difficulty for me growing up, was how easily I got (and get) attached to people. I truly love people, but I know now that most people don't really care about you, and it can still hurt a bit to know that that person probably don't like you as much as you like them, but it's a lot easier when you grow up and realize that that is how most people are, and now I can accept it and love people without expectations of receiving that back. Now I actually meet so many wonderful and loving people all the time! This video really made me feel more positive about my abilities, thank you!! One thing you said, about how we can change emotions and move on quickly. Well yes, I can be very sad for two days and then be so happy the next week. But I have had a history of finding it difficult to move on and of being stuck, extremely stuck in the past, wishing that I could've done things differently. I'm so glad that part of my life is over now, I am not stuck in the past, I am not depressed and I am excited about life again! For all you ENFPs that have depression and is stuck in the past, and with negative thoughts about yourselves and regret, you have the power to change that mindset and move on! It's not easy, but it gets easier every month, and then you finally reach a point where you can move on and accept. Even if you start to slip in to depression again, it gets easier and easier every time to get back to the normal you! Practice acceptance and patience, and trust in that you are taken care of. I believe in God, and he has come to my life after reaching out for him. But not everyone is going to be spiritual, even if ENFPs usually kind of are. But I know that you have been given everything you need to make it through the difficult times, and you have all this life in you that is waiting to come out! Enjoy life now, don't think that you will be happy once you reach a certain goal. You can find happiness in everyday and in the small things, those are really what builds up this life! Live everyday like it's an important day, even if you are only inside of your house that day. Do things that make you happy, and try to make this world a better place by helping others and by inspiring others with the best version of yourself that you can be. You have a beautiful mind and soul Erik, I wish you and anyone else that is reading this a great life!

Thank you for making this comment. Everything you said really resonates with me. Especially how we find little joys in life, but the thing that makes me feel like I'm ELECTRIC is when I connect with someone and their mind can keep up with ours and we connect so well and we can talk with such intensity and they are open and let me know everything in their mind, not holding back. I love those moments and those moments are like my kriptonite and I feel so alive yet nothing I say or do is within my control, my mind and body are just acting out of their initiative. It's actually really sad because most people are not like that. If that person who made me feel electric was a rainbow, then everyone else is some shade of gray. It is sort of depressing to know that I'm one of the ones who sees in infared while others just see life normally. Honestly, although I've never done drugs, I sometimes feel like an addict in recovery. Trying to live a normal life when I want to feel electric all the time. I constantly feel understimulated and it can make me feel hopeless at times, but I have other things that give me a sense of that feeling, but not typically other people. Also you talked about being in a depression because of being stuck in the past, that was true for me too. I was also fixated on my mistakes and regrets and I was living in Si. For us I think that's called an Si grip. I found that the antidote for me is tapping into Ne and doing something creative. I crochet. I've ways done so, but when I started designing crochet, along with planning for an upcoming trip, the depression just fell off of me like stripping off a robe! It was amazing to feel like I wasn't under water anymore. All of my senses were on alert and I could really taste food and sounds were beautiful again. I don't wish that for anyone, but it's really rough on ENFPs. The good thing is that once Ne is sparked, it goes right away. It's our super power! Like you said, to all the ENFPs reading this, life gets better the older you get and tap into your strengths, doing so with confidence, knowing what you bring to the table. Don't stop being excited about the little things in life. Meditating on the Bible and imagining the lives of the people in the Bible really make me feel excited, and nerding out over MBTI lol.

I’ve recently got into personality types and have been trying to find my type and it has been a bit of a struggle. I finally came to the realization from doing some research and from watching and listening to other personality breakdowns that I am an ENFP. Your video was one of a small handful that really drove the point home because it was less generic than many of the others I have seen. All of what you said was spot on but the main points were.... 1. I’m allowed to change my mind.... 2. this is just who I am and I accept who you are so please accept me as I am... 3. Being an extrovert I prefer smaller intimate groups or deep 1 on 1 conversations to have a better understanding of that person’s individualism and perspective. Everyone has a story and I want to hear and learn from their story. I also really liked when you said ENFPs are a “Democratic unity of people and individuals crammed into one person; they are multiple perspectives brought into one.” That was really good.

Anyone who disliked this video is clearly an ENFP who felt attacked by this personally relatable content :) When you started talking about ENFP 'collecting,' I was like.......how did you know about my collections?! As I stared at the Pinterest board for the new novel I'm working on :D Re: emotional processing: I know what you're saying by calling it 'fast,' but looked at another way, it's slow. By that I mean, yes, I move between emotions very quickly, but then because of that, it takes awhile for me to be confident that the emotions have settled enough for me to talk to someone about them effectively. That is, if I get mad, it's like a volcano, and talking to them while the volcano is erupting is a bad idea - I'll basically eviscerate them based on that transient emotional state. But over the next couple of days, I'll go through a month's worth of emotions for a normal person, the magma will have cooled, and then I can have a conversation about why I got upset. I'm very careful talking to Fe-users, even XXTPs, because I can be expressing an emotion that I just want to be heard, and all of a sudden my personal emotion becomes an action item. All the Fe users I know perceive me as more emotionally reserved than the Fi users. I'm definitely sensitive to Fe and Te judgement, possibly enhanced by being raised by an ESFJ mom and an ENTJ dad. I have a good relationship with them now, but growing up I basically felt my mom was constantly telling me the way I felt was wrong and my dad was telling me the way I was doing something was wrong. Re: parties: I will say that if it's a gathering of people I don't know, I prefer a large gathering rather than a small one. With a large gathering of people I don't know, if I end up talking to someone boring, I can excuse myself and find someone else to talk to. Versus a small party with people I don't know...like the time my friend invited me and my boyfriend to hang out with her couple friends and after 15 minutes with them, I was seriously contemplating whether I could safely escape through her second floor living room window. But yes, the more people, the more to manage concept was very relatable. I like hanging out one on one. I have many different sides to me, and my friends are all very different (not a single repeated personality type among them!) and I like to explore those sides of myself with them. We talk about different things, share different activities, and I take enjoyment and pride from selecting experiences tailor made for the person I'm hanging out with. So with a group of people it's exhausting to figure out activities, food, etc. that everyone will enjoy and to manage the conversation so no one pisses each other off and I don't have to end up explaining to two very different people why I'm friends with both of them!

Another excellent video from Erik the Mind Reader. When I explained my thought process to an ISTJ-a, she said, "...that honestly sounds exhausting". She doesn't like the constant scanning and predicting and weighing, while I find it interesting how other people build and employ their value systems.

I kept getting into or intj on the other sites and it had just never felt like the right fit whenever I would go through the description and struggles of that personality type. When I got ENFP-m I was surprised but after going through your video and descriptions ENFP is the perfect match

I remember as a child I was not allowed to do very much. It wasn't just no because of finance, but no because the ideas were probably too far out there for my sensory mum. But I do remember spending a significant amout of time daydreaming about all manner of things. Like animals, magical ones, to what other people are doing, or me being in different scenarios and playing them all out. My favourite ones were of me flying high either on a winged horse or without. As i got older into my teens, my imagination became less 'wild', but more about different types of jobs or what I what do with finance, or meeting different types of people and on and on. I never really kept close friends as I am not sure I was fully understood, but I remember the odd adult in familial circles would tell me everything about them- their feelings and their difficult situations, (I learnt about things way too soon), I was an ear for their lonely tough lives. I would observe the adults and they would comment about how I answered after thinking about things. Thank you for this nostalgic walk. :)

And I am always wondering why people are taking things so seriously, like why do you have to be in a certain way or do things in certain ways and I feel like so many think I am crazy because I am always shapeshifting and trying new things. Sometimes extroverted sometimes introverted. Thank you for this video!!!!

I say yes to all 7 and appreciate the info. 97% of the time people just walk away from me because they can’t handle what appears to be a flighty conversation. One thought leads to another and ... where was I (if I can find the file) or I’ll come back to it. My passion brings my excitement up and my energy is through the roof. Others can’t handle it and it’s difficult to bring it down without taking a long walk.......I learn more when I talk out loud to my self and find aha moments.....

@ErikThor
@ErikThor 5 жыл бұрын
When I think of "Imaginative" I associate it with not just ideas in general, but with colourful, vivid, well drawn ideas. You know, seeing yourself in a new situation, imagining yourself in a new place, daydreaming about meeting someone or doing something. ENFPs let their imagination run free - they think about everything. They are the most broadminded and inclusive in their intuitive process, and have less creative restraints than say the ENTP, more openness than the INFP. That's why I place them as the #no1 most imaginative types. :)

@@ErikThor fair enough I can accept that but just letting you know that as an ENTP my imagination runs wild it might not be as colorful and bubbly as the ENFP but it is as vivid and wacky being in entirely new places planets and universes, or different times like way in the future or way back in history the reason why history was one of my favorite classes being there in 1st person seeing how things were I used to get called out for my "daydreaming" all the time and the teachers were always surprised of my grades as if I was cheating I mean I wasn't the best student skipping classes and arguing or trolling was what I was known for when a test was coming up all kinds of students used to hit me up to "prepare for tests" and I was always like what's the point in that??? I don't do that shit??? weren't u in class??? lol every time...

@@YB7517167 I agree that ENFP's are only in some ways more Imaginative than ENFP's. The thing is that ENFP's often imagine themselves doing stuff and they kinda like to make a show out of being imaginative, while ENTP's have a more detached imagination, that does less often limit itself of themselves and their own desires, like indeed other planets and universes. A lot of the time I find ENFP's have fantasies about stuff they themselves wanna do. They might be like: "Oh I wanna take a bike and just cycle around the world and then eat from the food people give me" and such things. Maybe this becasue of Fi and Te tend to be somewhat associated with realizing own desires.

Hi Erik thank you four video on ENFPs, you often have fresh ideas on personality types which can´t be found easily and get me thinking on that topic. I would like to share some thought on this video: 1. I love the way you talk about realistic imposibilites. This is so spot on. Other people often see these ideas as impossible, but we can see alot of the factors that go into turning them into reality and have a natural ability of turning abstract concepts into real things and see the pathway between the two. Also we just have a grasp of these things because of our Ne, so they seem so real to us and in turn they are so attractive. It is althemore dissapointing when the factors that are beyond our control or take other people to realise them don´t contribute and we can´t follow up on these dreams. 2. .I strongly disagree with the part between 03:15-03:35 in a healthy state they are very much that. Also as ENFPs are definetively extroverts they are higher up on those scales as introverts by default. Maybe less so than other extroverts, but to be precise they are not on the lower end. Maybe you could do a follow up on this point and explain it so that I can better understand what you were trying to say or specify your observations.

Ok I have to tell you this, since I enjoy your page so much and you are one of the most knowledgeable people I’ve come across on MBTI. Almost every MBTI test I’ve ever taken I’ve gotten ENFP and I’m basically positive at this point that I am one. On your test on your site I got INFJ, which I’ve never gotten before. I’m not sure what it means if anything, but still interesting. I’m not quite sure what my enneagram type is yet.

Loved the video. Have noticed from getting friends and family to do the myer briggs test that most dyslexic people seem to finish the test with it telling them they are an enfp when from knowing their personality long enough and being an enfp myself doesn't really make any sense, while all the enfps I do know including myself are dyslexic. Has there been muhh research done on a link between enfps and dyslexia?
@Imnottrainedforthis
@Imnottrainedforthis 5 жыл бұрын
Maybe it's just that a lot of the traits people use to compensate for their dyslexia are quite ENFP-ish. Like, the way you handle people and the way you work. I mean, I'm definitely not dyslexic, on the contrary - I've always loved books, reading and writing, foreign languages, and spelling and grammar aren't much of a problem. AND I'm a quite typical ENFP. But I'm also a bit deaf, and before I got good hearing aids, I tested as an INFP, because it could be quite exhausting to follow conversations and be around people for too long. So being introvert wasn't a personality trait, I simply adapted.

Once I've realised that my mind goes so fast, my tongue or my hand wants to go at the same speed and becames nearly imposible. Then I associated it with dyslexia and it makes sense; our brains acts in abstraction, metaphores and more variables that make it really hard to not crush your words or make it all a little mess, (that we can put together still) maybe this helps, 🌸💘

I will say I've had times where i wanted to have a party, but then everyone conveniently has an excuse not to attend. So I've decided its better to just do it myself, if people want to join me they can, if not I couldn't be bothered anymore. I used to be more dependent on other people accompanying me, but I've learned to be more confident in myself, this came with time. I'm an ENFP and I love your video it makes so much sense.

Democratic unity of people in one person, I 100% agree. Its very hard to chose when given an option because we look at it from so many prospectives its hard to chose only one outcome. At the same time we chose the best outcome that is allinged with our strong sense of morals. Unless its something medial and not important then we chose the most outrageous option becuase why not?

HI Erik, do you think ENFP, when unhealthy, can become bipolar? I know an ENFP in her 70s, quite bitter abut life in one moment but jovial in another. She moves on to the next topic without closing the previous topic and is totally unaware of how she offends other people. She is illiterate and not educated, so she does not have any tools or language to help her know herself. How can I help her? Thanks in advance.
