The imp mask from Okami. It's literally just a scrap of paper over Amaterasu's face that you can draw whatever silly thing you want on it. The guards at the door instantly recognise you as an imp as if you aren't still very visibly a wolf. In fact, no-one recognises you.

I was going to suggest this! Imps are not the brightest. The most threatening of Orochi's minions is a talking scrap of paper, and only because you are forced to race it through a bunch of deathtraps.

At least, Link's Hylian Vai disguise from equipping the Gerudo Armor Set (certain clothing options such as the Thunder Helm, Sand Boots, & Snow Boots can be used in place of the Gerudo Veil & Gerudo Sirwal as the Thunder Helm is traditionally worn by female Gerudo Chieftains, while the Boots are unisex Gerudo made clothing for traversing sand or snow) is enough to fool most Gerudo guards & inhabitants (though some see through Link's disguise such as the Gerudo Secret Club owner who runs an illegal black market shop that sells men's clothing which is against Gerudo Town law, Riju, & Builara on account they know the Hylian Champion! Mind you their is also a Hylian tourist named Jules who realizes Link isn't female though keeps that knowledge to herself! Also Urbosa's Diary reveals as Chieftain, she taught Link how to disguise himself when Zelda took advantage of Gerudo Town's law to dodge Link's protection detail as Urbosa understood his duty to protect Zelda was important & like Riju knowingly allowed a voe to enter Gerudo Town disguised as a Hylian Vai as there is no way Link could pass as a Gerudo, though he's androgynous appearance is enough to fool the guards to see him as a Hylian vai! The Lynel Mask not being as effective on Lynels unlike the other Monster Masks acquired from Kilton, makes sense as Lynels are cunning enough to see through it, unlike Bokoblins, Moblins, & Lizalfos who are fooled by their corresponding masks as they aren't very bright by comparison (Lizalfos are presumably fooled due to Kilton's craftsmanship & Link adopting their mannerisms, which unfortunately Link can't really replicate with the Lynel Mask unless say a top a horse though even then they'll eventually figure out it is just a Hylian on a Horse! Majora's Mask has basically all the powers of each monster Mask in a single mask, as well as functioning similar to the Stone Mask when it comes to those enemy archetypes (Cursed Bokoblins, Cursed Moblins, & Cursed Lizalfos are unaffected due to them being corrupted by Ganon's MALICE) though again its power seemingly cannot conceal Link from Lynels for long as they will eventually somehow detect his presence!

​@@RaphBlade7 I think its because the Lynels actually study link which is why it takes them so long to respond. Lynels are like you said a very clever creature just brutal. I tend to think its simpler that by mimicking their maunisms and the smell from the masks he's good enough for the simpler groups. Now with the Voe outfit....you see, well just going to say he pulls it off pretty well, probably part of the reason those who can see through it allow him to be there. Then there's the awkward spa in that town as well lol

One video game disguise I can think of is Captain Keeta’s mask from Majora’s Mask. Sure, it fools the undead king of Ikana canyon… for a few minutes before he realizes you’re too small to be the actual Captain Keeta, a giant skeleton that towers over everything.

I'd go with the Hitman 3 Release 1.0 version of the Marrakesh hostage. In Hitman 2016, he's a personal friend of Reza Zaydan, who's betrayed Reza, been caught, and then taken captive with a bag on his head. Except that the 1.0 release of Hitman 3 neglected to include the bag, which kept anyone from noticing if an entirely different man was now sitting where the hostage had been. Anyone including Reza himself, who comes by to interrogate his captive repeatedly!

Pokemon games are aimed at a young audience, so they don't tend to leave much up to interpretation, like how they have you return the Professor's Mask to Kikui to make absolutely sure you get the joke that he's the Masked Royal. Burnet buying into the disguise has no similar moment, so it seems more likely that we're meant to take her at face value. Also, it's much funnier if we do. It adds a fun layer to pretty much the best couple in the franchise.

You do this by literally sticking a literal piece of paper on your face with a crudely-drawn face on it. They player even has to draw it themselves!

I'd say the most glaring example I know is Mr. X from Mega Man 6. He's the one who appears to tell you that he's been manipulating Dr. Wily from the begining... except that Mr. X just looks like Dr. Wily with a beard, sunglasses and a mole in his forehead. When you defeat him it shocks absolutely nobody that he was Dr. Wily all along.

Pokémon is no stranger to poor disguises. In HeartGold and SoulSilver, you get past some Team Rocket grunts by dressing up as one yourself. The disguise itself isn’t terrible, it does look like an authentic Team Rocket grunt uniform, but it’s missing a couple of key details. For one, all Team Rocket Grunts in the game have pink hair, and the player’s hair is either black or brown. Likewise, all the actual Team Rocket grunts are adults, and the player is conspicuously a child. Despite this, the only person who sees past this ruse is the player’s obnoxious edgelord rival, who immediately blows the player’s cover, forces them to change back into their normal outfit, then leaves.

Your rival Silver gets a pass tho- as the son of the leader of Team Rocket Giovanni, and likely raised around them, it'd be easy for him to know you're not part of the organization. Plus at that point in the game he's warmed up to you considerably, and hates Team Rocket, so you wearing the disguise probably pisses him off more than anything. The adult members have no excuse however. The protags in the R/B, S/G/SS/HG, and S/M games are the youngest main characters in the entire series (approximately 10-11 years old depending on where in the game you are). You aren't like the protags from B/W or X/Y who are old enough to get part time jobs, you're a child in that game and everyone treats you that way until you wear the disguise! I honestly want to say it's a joke from the original Silver/Gold since the top-down view and graphics made you look like a rocket member, but by keeping it in the remakes it makes it a lot funnier and unbelievable!

after sharing the '7 Pokémon backstory' videos with my dad (as he was there when i was a kid when i started my Pokémon journey 20 years ago) i've started sharing more of these videos with my dad, who has little to no knowledge of video games, and he's been enjoying them immensely. For me, I'd go with the Fatui disguise in Genshin Impact. All you do is just put on a mask over your face in certain quests and every one of the Fatui think you're a legitimate member. The Mercenaries series series has a disguise system consisting of driving a specific factions vehicle, and nothing else. People will see the vehicle first and not shoot the driver until they further investigate their identity. However this extends both ways, as driving a faction vehicle through their opposing faction's territory will place you at the center of a shower of gunfire, unless you constantly and obnoxiously honk your horn to alert the locals to your true identity: the obnoxious horn honker. Humorously in Mercenaries 2 they specifically mistake you for a faction member named Rodrigo, whose driving is nearly as erratic and drunken as your own. The voice line gets old after the 3rd time, but the legend of Rodrigo spans all of Venezuela.

Man, that game had some big eyeroll moments like that. I ain't trying to hate, if you like P5, more power to ya, but for me, after playing the other games in the series, P5's story was horrendous. Almost every character has two dimensions at best (not to mentiom how dumb most of them are), the overall theme of the game just boils down to "aDuLtS bAD", and that f%cking maid scene was pure fanservice. I know you could date the nurse in P4 but they really went over-the-top by making your teacher a literal sex-maid. Here's hoping that for P6 Atlus goes back to better theming with deeper, more thought-provoking premises for the story. I liked all the gameplay and ease-of-life improvements though, those were good. They should keep those.

The Traveler has a rather terrible disguise in Genshin Impact which consists of nothing more than one of those Robin eyemasks. The disguise is made worse by the fact that the Traveler is said to have clothing and golden hair that is unique and unusual in Teyvat, meaning the disguise is kind of useless since any reasonably informed should know of the "Famed Traveler." It'd be like not recognizing Robin the Boy Wonder because he happened to take his mask off.

My favorite "bad disguise" is from Threads of Fate/Dewprism. One of the antagonists, Duke, is kind of a dork. He dresses up in a large, yellow star shaped costume, and when called out on his junk disguise, he still tries to pretend he is not himself and tells you he is, in fact, a star. Then you proceed to have a boss encounter with this clown in his star suit.

I just love how "Mr. L" is just begging for a low effort clapback befitting of the poor effort behind that name. Also, I weirdly always liked Lee's "Violet" Disguise (even if it is as low effort as dying his hair Purple, adopting shades and Changing his clothes). Its funny because in the first time I played him, the whole time I thought "This guy reminds me of Lee Chaolan" and then comes the final stage rug pull and young me going "WAIT, THAT IS LEE CHAOLAN!!
