Yess!!!! I absolutely LOVED getting my zine supplies from the dollar store. Also, for any zines you want to have for free online, I just used Heyzine flip books and you're able to upload five for free. I used this on my ocean conservation zine BIG BEAUTIFUL BLUE. It was super easy to use!

I work at a library and am hosting 3 zine making programs for teens in August. I love your videos and have told people to check out your stuff if they are into zines. I wanted to agree with you about a lot of public libraries having materials available for you to use for free or low cost. Always ask your local librarians! They want to help!

I love how broad the use of 'zines are. From fanzines to perzines, and photo zines, there is so much one can do to express, and share their interests with other like minded people. I even found a 'zine that teaches how to make a 'zine.

Homeschooling mom here! Thank you for your content! This year my kid is in 8th grade and I was looking for an engaging way to teach ELA and thought, “Oh! Zines!!!” Then I found you here! This is great stuff and you will be helping us out a lot this year! Also, as soon as you mentioned the FedEx stations, I was like, “Yep because they used to be Kinko’s where I used to work!” And then you said you used to work there! Haha!

You can get swivel staplers - they're the size (and pretty much price) of regular staplers, but the top part pivots so that you can staple sideways. V useful for zines. Thank you for this great video!

I have a long armed stapler I never use anymore because I prefer using an awl instead. Way cheaper and so much more control over how the staples lay in the spine. Loved this video - a good reminder I really need to pick up a bone folder. Every time I do a new edition of a zine I say "wish I had a bone folder" because they really are that handy!

So instead of the folded cardboard, I use one of those giant pink erasers. The novelty ones that say "for big mistakes!" It's thick enough that the staples don't hurt the surface underneath but soft enough that the staples push right into it with no effort.

The nice thing about your stapler method is that the staples are FLAT - I have both long-arm and “bent” booklet staplers and the tine side is curved. The attachment is loose with really thin zines. Yours is more secure.

Honestly you dont even need a stapler if you have 1 pushpin and the staples themselves. You take a staple, line it up where you want it, lay it on its side, use the pushpin to poke the holes where it lines up, push the staple through and fold down the prongs like you did. You just need to be careful not to rip the paper by pushing too hard. I get all my staples from the dollarstore tbh.

I really caution against making generalizations about public libraries. There are thousands of them and they can each have their own policies and resources even within the same system. It doesn’t hurt to ask (or research beforehand) but don’t assume they will all let you use particular office supplies (aside from like pens and regular staplers) especially if they’re sharp or offer free printing.
@brattyxbre7 ай бұрын
Of course, use your own judgement and do your own research always! All I’m saying is the library is a resource that is sometimes overlooked 😇 Thanks for watching and leaving your comment. It’s helpful!
@pivotandsway7 ай бұрын
@@brattyxbre It's nothing against you, it's just folks say things like "you can get eclipse glasses at your library" or "you can get COVID tests at your library" when that's really only applicable to specific places and then we're the bad guys for not having a resource we never offered. I know you did say that was just for you but some people don't watch the whole video and may have only seen the first part or just read the screen text. I have worked at different libraries, and I am always happy to give or lend out all kinds of supplies to folks, but other places I have worked, we weren't even allowed to give people post-its or dry erase markers for free. No sharps other than kids scissors. Some libraries even have vending machines for office supplies. Ridiculous, but it happens.

I haven’t! But I usually just cut and paste everything by hand. If I make a page digitally I use procreate on my iPad, print them out and paste into my zine. Then make copies with my scanner. I do however make mini zines completely digitally sometimes and have a template for that on my website under “zine resources” then o just print and fold it like normal. Hope the template helps! The printing process i trial and error for everyone (or at least for me lol) but you get it over time!
