I understand the rollouts are disallowed after Elena Mukhina broke her neck doing one, but the rest? The cat leaps aren't dangerous. I imagine some have just had their point levels lowered so it's not worth the risk anymore to do the skills. Those roundoff bar mounts are spectacular. Sad to see those no longer being done.

This confuses me so much!!! I just watched the Olympics and I didn’t see anything near this kind of talent. Yes of course Simone has her stuff but how is she called the GOAT when there was this kind of talent out there before her? Is it all too dangerous so it’s banned and now ignored???
@purplemyriad2 ай бұрын
I have to agree, the beam work alone on here surpasses anything she did at the Olympics. Her floor and vault are outstanding but her beam doesn't stand up to this video. She's an amazing athlete and is changing gymnastics but I find her 'all technique and no passion'. So when the technique is failing, like on the beam, she has little to distinguish her from others.

What she’s doing is working according to the rules, and doing so better than anyone else working according to the rules. The guidelines are there because these tricks caused injuries, just like anything else out here in the world. For example, the seatbelt laws… there is much more Simone and others could show us! Stuff they probably do when they’re messing around in the gym outside of competition. But when it comes to those wins/medals, if they stepped outside of the boundaries, they’ll not only be docked score wise - but would run the risk of more severe punishment. So for their overall health, safety, longevity, and scores, they’ve got to follow the rules.

@@christina5kids16grandsYup, blame the people that make the rules. I understand banning skills that are too dangerous. However, they should give more points for artistry or require more artistic skills. The beauty of Gymnastics is dwindling & at risk of dying before our very eyes.
@christina5kids16grands2 ай бұрын
@@JMeLuNez yeah I guarantee you that if they gave more points for artistry, those skills would be prioritized. TBH when you look at the stats for interest and views, buzz and engagement online around the world, gymnastics has had a major rise from the ashes since Biles started competing. Lastly, it is extremely heartening to see actual WOMEN - full grown women well into their 20’s and nearing 30 with real women’s bodies and curves excelling!!! Looking back at years and decades gone by, there were a bunch of freakin little girls ruling this sport - girls who had massive pressure to starve themselves, ruled by abusive coaches and doctors. Girls who rarely smiled out there at all - who were being sent off to train far too young for years away from their families. I can’t help but believe that gymnastics is at the healthiest most balanced age ever.

@@christina5kids16grands I'm pretty sure everything you said is correct. I'm happy the sport is popular again. I'm just sad that certain eye-catching &/or beautiful skills are disappearing. 😢

I grew up watching all of those techniques Olympics. I've stopped watching since They've clipped the wings to the point of removing the beauty from the sport. The things I see now are not chilling, exhilarating, nerve-racking Lee spectacular. Isn't that what the Olympics are supposed to be?!

It’s banned now because unfortunately there have been to many catastrophic injuries throughout the years by other gymnasts trying to perform these kind of routines. So to protect athletes from permanently injuring themselves and others, they took these routines out of the equation. It’s to protect future athletes and keep the sport safe and alive.

Why?
@uravghuman2 ай бұрын
1. Back to Back Tumbling: for stamina reservation to set up for bigger skills. Also if you do back to back tumbling, you can only do easier skills. Too much effort, and not rewarding. 2. Quad beam series: the Code of Point changes every 4 year. Connection values change. Some skills can only be performed once/twice. 3. One Handed Giants: harder to connect to other skills. Potential built-in deductions. 4. Roll-outs: banned due to risks of injuries. 5. Round-off bar Mounts: same reasons as one handed giants. 6. Cat leaps: devalued. Not worth performing. 7. Arabesque beam landing: difficult to hold to not get deducted. Potential forms deductions.

Sounds like too many rules kill the creativity, which is what we watch for. Nothing outstanding anymore. It’s all vanilla now and I can’t help but think that the athletes think the same way, surely if it’s your life’s work you would want to stand out.

You don’t see a difference? They do 3-4+ runs on the mat continuously flipping and landing in the gliding somersault ever! It’s an illegal move now! They do one run on the mat at a time, that’s it! The mounts onto and dismounts off the uneven bars aren’t allowed! One handed isn’t allowed! Flips aren’t allowed! Flip runs on the beam, not done now! Dismounts off the beam, illegal moves now! Perhaps watch again! Compare to routines done now as opposed to the 70’s and 80’s!
