As a female casual watcher of yours, and on her sobriety journey, at 30, your sentiment of “not wanting to come off as holier than thou” is where I’m at too, after being sober curious and cutting back over the last few years, as I’ve been working on bettering my mental and emotional health, as well as getting out of some stressful and not so great working environments. Walking is a favorite thing for me to do as well, and have been working on a lot of the same things you’ve mentioned, like working out and meditating as well. Walking for me is an active meditation, when I’m not listening to something in the background.

I've made this remark about other videos by Courtney because she impresses me with every one of her improve-yourself videos I watch: I'm in my sixties, and I never cease to be impressed by the wisdom shown by someone so young. I was probably ten years older than Courtney is now before I even began to think about things she seems to understand deeply. Every piece of advice here was great, but several that really stand out to me are that it's not about a quick fix, keeping the promises you make to yourself (very important for how you feel about yourself and how that motivates you), looking inside to understand what motivates you, and thinking of the person you want to be, then working to make that happen. Listen to Courtney. You will benefit from putting her advice into action. Great video as usual.

Well done! I admire people who don't make excuses for not becoming their better self or for not trying to be their better self. And yes, I can testify to the importance of protein. I consume a ton of it daily and have been doing so for a long time. I love being sober-no alcohol, no weed, and obviously no hardcore stuff.

@@CourtneyRyanHey Courtney. I have been watching your videos on and off and have noticed that you appear to only give advice to straight people. I think it would be helpful if you broadened your reach to include people of different genders, sexual orientations, and neuro-workings (people who are autistic, have ADHD, etc). As an autistic person, I would love to see you address and give voices to autistic, gay, transgender, and gender non-conforming individuals in the future. :-)

It's such a relief to hear that you're sober-it's one of the reasons I follow you specifically. My grandfather let me try a shot of vodka when I was 12, and that experience convinced me I never wanted to drink. That’s the only drink I’ve ever had in my life (apart from an accidental sip of fermented apple cider). I was raised in a religious home that was against drinking, and many of my friends mock my choice not to drink, assuming it’s because of my “prude” or “square” upbringing. But it’s not. I left that religion behind a long time ago, yet I’ve never felt the desire to drink. I don’t know what your religious background is or if it plays a role in your sobriety, but I really appreciate hearing about the benefits of being sober from a health and mindset perspective. That’s where I’m coming from with my own sobriety-I have enough vices without adding alcohol to the mix. Thank you and keep up the good work.

I worked with a nutritionist and the results were incredible. I was obese most of my adult life, but didn't think about it. I saw those charts of height and weight, but always dismissed them because I was in the "fit but fat" zone of being doing lots of exercise but carrying a lot of weight because of diet. I thought I looked fine, my weight was fairly well distributed, so I didn't have a round shape. But now that I am in shape I feel and look really different. Other people in my life didn't realize how overweight I was until I lost the weight.

@@CourtneyRyan well you have to be careful with fiber because essentially if you are pushing out a million little pieces or a bunch of liquid, yes you need fiber, but if everything is normal, all fiber is going to do is plug you up. It increases the size of what does forming inside of you and again that can cause problems. Fiber is not a necessity the protein is as well as good bacteria

Courtney can you dive deeper into your fitness routine you did i say strength training but is there a certain program, did you do or are doing progressive overload do you work with a personal trainer at the gym or on line? How long do you walk for, or is it spur of the moment during the day? I ask because soon we'll have 2 kids and my wife and I both work 10 hour days 4x a week and I get walks in at work and I weightlift 3x a week but for her its just seemed really hard to have her have the same routine.
@CourtneyRyanАй бұрын
Great question! Right now I’m not on a specific program, I just do the workouts that I know work for me (I previously had a personal trainer so mostly exercises I did with her!) - If I go twice a week I’ll do an upper body day and lower body day and if I do 3 times a week I’ll do that + a full body workout. I have found that following a program really helps though! My personal trainer was truly life changing for me so I’d recommend that too!
@CourtneyRyanАй бұрын
I work from home and sit quite a bit during the day so I’ve been trying to walk for at least an hour at some point during the day! Doesn’t always happen but I feel so much better when I do it. You and your wife sound MUCH more busy than I am so I imagine that’s a challenge! I’ve heard having a walking pad at home (or a treadmill) can really help as well!
@nathandeparis9852Ай бұрын
@@CourtneyRyan Thanks for the info. Yeah she does have a walking pad, but i feel a personal trainer will help the most as I do StrongLifts 5x5 at home and use the app to follow the program but she has scoliosis and i really do want her to strength train so after the baby is born and she's recovered we were going to reassess that. I may even say go part time so she can focus more on being in shape. I don't mind working more to give her more time with that and the kids.

Personally I'm really scared of alcohol. My system is extremely prone to alcohol more so than the average person, in other words, if you're drunk for 1 hour, I'm drunk for 3. Anyway, recently I did a pub crawl with my brother and some of his friends and I was the only one who didn't drink and it was weird watching everyone else get hammered. Nobody had 100% control over themselves and they were laughing like crazy. I felt like a kid amongst them which was ironic because I was the oldest one there. But yeah, a pub crawl is not my idea of a fun time. (But it was fun to take videos of them and send them to my sister for laughs.)

What do you think about those who are on carnivorous diets? Their bodies don't seem to require any fiber, even when it comes to facilitating healthy digestion. The key to ensuring that you can continually keep promises is by developing a routine. They say it takes about 21 days to build a habit. The more consistently you do it, the less you have to consciously think about it. Does cold exposure also confer similar benefits as heat? Taking cold showers is supposed to be great for aiding your body's circulation. Do you think daily journaling is a good way of becoming more introspective? Being one with your thoughts while meditating is one thing, but making them concrete on paper seems like a more constructive way of playing with your inner dialogue. Cardio doesn't just have to be confined to the perimeter of a gym. Don't neglect the importance of couple's cardio behind closed doors. 🛌 Does your sobriety also include caffeine? As bad as alcohol is to our health, having to fetch a cup of coffee in the morning in order to wake up and function isn't exactly a great habit either.
