On this point of leaving the house costs money - nothing is more true. If you're packing your lunch for a normal day of work, LEAVE YOUR BANK CARD AND MONEY AT HOME. I got into this habit around this time last year, and I am shook by how much money and food it has saved me. I used to always be at a negative bank balance in the days leading up to payday, which we know invites overdraft fees which causes a generalised anxiety until your pay finally hits, and then I just started leaving my bank card at home on workdays which quite literally changed the state of my finances and thus changed my life. Leave debit/credit card at home.

Love this! I'm already doing many of these. I liked the coffee tip. Another thing I do is share accounts for Spotify, Netflix or Hulu other family member or friends and split the price. For birthdays I usually have a gift stash of things I love and use myself and would give to a friend. I usually buy 2 of that item so when it's on sale, like Ulta has 50% off on some months and specific days so I look for those beauty/makeup offers. Birthday cards save you a lot of money and come off as thoughtful too if you don't see person but want to send a gesture. Try buying cards before birthday, Ross, Marshall's have great prices on beautiful cards. I also buy a purse that's good quality, can transition through different seasons and try to not create more waste with many purses, plus I save. Leather purses usually wear really well and look excellent over time. Ok, last one get good at crafting, youtube is a great tool and social media ideas. Make your own seasonal decor. I love Dia De Los Muertos but since it's commercialized now everything is crazy overpriced. I go to Michael's give myself a $20 budget and but things that are on sale and can be painted. This year I bought an amazing pug skull and white and it took me a week to paint for an hour each day. It looked amazing! I added fake flowers that I already had and got some much needed quiet time painting away. Hope this helps someone :)

One thing I started doing was buying new ingredients I typically wouldn't buy to make me excited about eating at home. I even started trying new pasta shapes to elevate my basic pasta and sauce meal. The nice plate thing is a good trick to. I also started adding ice to drinks to make them feel fancier. Sometimes I'd blend the drink with ice to feel like I was drinking something fancy from a bar/ restaurant.

I'm pretty much on all of these rules, despite not being on a strict budget, nor saving for anything in particular (other than fattening up my emergency account to 6 months of living expenses). As my sister says "I'm not cheap, I'm economical." 😂 My additional tips: Pay your bills AS SOON AS YOU GET THEM (if you can't put them on auto-pay). Nothing makes me feel richer than when my salary and student funding comes rattling in on pay day, AND IT DOESN'T ALL IMMEDIATELY DRAIN AWAY INTO BILLS. And also - never pay a late fee again. Make it a challenge to never throw out food. I WILL. NOT. waste food, and it saves me so much money in the long run (Those broccoli stems can be chopped up into your chicken pot pie filling and BOOM - five dinners instead of four!). Don't pay a discounted price for an item you would not pay full price for. No, I will not buy anything full price. But neither will I also let myself be swayed by the red SALE-tag. Buying a £200 coat for £100 = £100 WASTED IF YOU DIDN'T WANT THE COAT TO BEGIN WITH.

For me I decided, it's not every day be frugal, but I *did* decide to only allow myself to splurge on *ONE* thing a month. Eg takeout or a small shop, nothing more than $50 and once it's gone, it's gone. That way I still get the dopamine hits but it's less frequent and I appreciate it more.

I actually worked at the movie theater and I thought the same thing before I started working there. But, after working there, I found out that the money that’s made from the tickets doesn’t go to the theatre. It goes back to the peeps who made the movie. The money they make from the concession stand is how the theaters make their money and pay their employees.

I was saying this to my self the other day, i was like stop making other people rich! and invest in yourself instead cause it multiplies. Spending about £50 on clothes and liabilities takes so much money away from you, but using that same money to invest into your small business can save you for a long period of time than just buying stuff and making other people rich.
