I've had numerous Rottweilers throughout the years, and found them to be wonderful companions, I do socialize my dogs and have never had an issue with aggression towards other dogs unless I didn't like the other dog (they really pick up on the owners feelings). They could also sense when I didn't like someone and they would become more watchful of that person.

@@tonnyberben1770 If you’re an adult and you take the time to research the breed, proper training and socialization as well as finding a credible breeder/rescue you should be fine. I work with working line Rottweilers. He was correct with socialising them as this is a must from the first day you get one but training is also essential. This will give you the foundation for your Rottie to trust you and see you as his/her boss. Even if you are using a professional trainer, be there and join in. The Rottweiler is a very dominant breed. That means if you are not his boss, he will want to be yours. This will last for their entire lives. A relaxed and content Rottweiler knows you make decisions and he will follow them, trusting you to be right. If your dog is making his own decisions, that is an issue. As for food, of course you can feed your dog kibble. Unlike this video I am not being paid to advertise a company - Give them good quality food and they will be fine. Just be careful with the amount as they are massive over eaters. Be prepared to alter the food intake as and when you need to (weigh your dog monthly). Groom your dog because it helps build a wonderful bond, but more importantly you will be able to feel any lumps or bumps. Rottweilers are unfortunately prone to cancer and more than half die due to the disease. Rottweilers are VERY loyal dogs. They will fall in love with their family and want to be a part of their lives. But don't be surprised if your dog has a bond with one family member much deeper than anyone else. Rotties do this. That person will not be able to shower on their own, go to the toilet on their own or generally be on their own ha. This person quite often is not their actual owner! Two things you should never actually do. Firstly, encourage him or her to guard or act aggressively. In the wrong hands you are encouraging bad behaviour. Imagine a dog who is making its own decisions and has been encouraged to act aggressively. Its a recipe for disaster. Trust me when I say this. The dog you may consider wouldn't hurt a fly and is soft will act when you need them - They do not need training unless they are going into security. Secondly do not encourage them to jump things. They are big dogs and can be prone to hip and elbow dysplasia. A Rottie can jump well over six foot straight up, but don't let them know they can ha. As a Rottie owner you are taking on all those negative stereotypes head on. Don't do anything to give anyone a reason to be fearful of your dog. We are guardians of the breed.

I got him through the people thing without incident, but then he went from happy, gentle, affectionate pal to finally growling at me. It was awful. My vet hadn't seen that for years, but he agreed it was time to let him go before someone would be attacked, maybe even me. It was awful but had to be done.

they truly are amazing, im in awe with mine everytime we train, the speed of understanding new things is what is really amazing to see, you can have the dog never see something or how it works but will instantly understand it like he is used to it from always, i took my barely 1 year old lil rottie to the agility track, she never seen one never been to one never saw any dog do anything like that, so i just went in the course with her and let her explore, in her exploring she already figured out how to do most of the things there, the bridge, ladder, climbing obstacle, swing and tunnels were mere jokes to her, she did it all perfectly on her own with no fear whatsoever like she would do it every day,if you saw her you would think all we do is train agility but we dont, all we do is have fun, i let her climb on things, chase stuff, search for stuff, basically i let her be a dog and she repays that with obedience and with beeing a generaly good and well behaved doggo. I love how at night, when she knows her work for the day is over and she can let go, she wants to always come to snuggle with me and seeks my company actively, if only just so she can lie next to me and her butt touching me is enough for her to be super happy about it. They truly are wonderfull doggos and at least for me, i will always have a rottie in my home, possibly there will be more but always there will be at least one, as long as im alive

As a puppy, you must be patient. They need lots of room and exercise. They eat everything in sight. Furniture, lawn ornaments, and your garden hose is a special treat. We feed him quality kibble with two eggs in the morning. Cheap chicken thigh-leg (treat) in the afternoon and kibble ground beef (The cheapest you can find) in the evening. Also, the local butcher likes him, so he gets regular bones to gnaw on.

I've had Rotts now for about 30 years, got my first one at the pound. I groom dogs and cats, and my dogs (4 generations now) have helped me by picking up my tools that get kicked across the room by animals that I'm working on. Sometimes it would be tough for me to let go of whatever I'm working on. they also pick up things around the house for me and in the yard, gloves, cell phone, blue tooth earbud . Keeps them from being destructive too. Less chewing things up if they know they get a treat for bringing things to me. Great job for them. he female I have now even trains pups to be leash trained. She drags them around on leash till they walk beside her. Happy minds and hearts.

One of the most important things to never do to a rott his hit them. They are extremely intelligent and very trusting. Hitting a rott can leave an emotional scar on them, they know when they messed up and just the look on your face is enough to punish a rott. Very emotional, loving animals. Hi I'm I owner of a 16 mth old rottweiler and had many in the past, your vet shouldn't of done that that's not on first off change vets, you need to make training and socialising your no 1 priority there so intelligent it won't take long start off just doing on in your neighbourhood when he/she sees another dog b4 he evens gets to the long stare they do and slow predotary walk you say his name is a high confident way with a treat in your hand and start walking the other way and giv treat and praise do this as training then you will start to see a difference don't rush training but it does need to be done daily, use the correct tool if he's a linger I'd be using a pinch /prong collar that give you bk control. Anyhow just a few hints and tips from a person that has a well mannered well socialised, off leash recall great rottweiler, b4 the army of prong collar haters come out, I use one and my girl gets so excited when she sees hers come out BC she knows it's time to go play and train, if used correctly there a great tool.

training will help sure but most of the work here is on you, you also shouldve prepared the dog for the vet better, and while i hate to say it but he was probably right with what he did, your doggo was just scared because he was in that position for the first time someone told him what to do and when he didnt the he got corrected, something i assume by your reaction to the fact you never did, at least not to the point to assert dominance over him, so everything around him was new, stuff he never felt or been subjected to happened and he got scared, you must understand the vet as well, he canno afford to get bitten and while my 2 girls love our current vet i had huge problems with my first vet without him doing really anything wrong, my girl just didnt like him for some reason and would not let him touch her, he had his asistant do it, no problem and i came to the conclusion that the problem there was me and the dog was projecting my feelings, as i was very anxious at the time, i was always scared and so on so the dog projected that. I would not worry too much if i were you tho, it is all fixable, just next time you go to the vet take it at his pace (the dog's not the vets) and try to at least teach the dog some basic obedience like place, stay, wait it will help the process along tremendously trust me. The last thing is, my vet also often sedates my older girl just because she is a bit skittish and if im not there she does not relax, there is not much you can do about that im affraid, they are big dogs and the vets need to take precautions and protect themselves. I did not notice any changes on my girls because of it tho so even if it seems unnecessary to you try to think from the perspective of safety, for your dog and the vet's health and life, since rotties if you get them mad like real mad in a confined space, well lets just say this, in such a situation i woulld not bet my money on the human to come out of that room, 1 bite in the right area and you are goner so the sedation will always happen just because of how big and strong he is, i would not worry about it too much, yeah it sucks to see your pooch all drugged out unable to stand or even pull his tongue back in his mouth but that sucks way way less than if he ends up redirecting on the vet and the consequences of such behavior, thats why i think rottweiler owners should always teach their dog at least the essentials of bite work so the dog loses the tendency to bite out of his own will and will rather wait for you to tell him what to do as there are rewards involved when he is a good boy and listens to you and the corrections he gets if he doesnt listen are waaaaaaaay less tasty, thats why they tend to like to work for their owners, it simply tastes better

It is not to late,#1 There ARE ALOT of great vets,I would have knocked out the vet you went to,CHANGE VET,#2 ROTTIES ARE VERY SMART,THEY MUST TRUST YOU,,,REPETITION WITH THE SAME WORDS,AND REWARD FOR GOOD BEHAVIOR,AND WHAT EVER COMMANDS OR HABBITS THAT STILL NEED WORK,YOU CONTINUE WITH POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT,IF THE DOG IS CHEWING ON SOMETHING THEY SHOULDN'T BE,TAKE IT AWAY,AND GIVE HIM WHAT HE IS ALLOWED TO CHEW ON RATHER THAN JUST DISCIPLINE#3TALK TO THE DOG,LOOK THEM IN THE EYES,SHOW YOU LOVE THEM,THEY UNDERSTAND WAY MORE THAN YOU THINK,STUDIES HAVE BEEN DONE STATING MOVING YOUR EYEBROWS,SMILING,AS WELL AS PLAIN OLE TALKING TO THEM,THEY ALWAYS SHOW INTEREST,AND YOU DEVELOPE A BOND SECOND TO NONE,NEVER YELL AT THE DOG,REGULAR VOICE COMMAND IS WHAT YOU WANT,YOU DONT WANT YOUR DOG TO BE SCARED OF YOU,,,GIVE IT TIME,IT IS NOT UPTO THE DOG TO GET THIS DONE,IT IS UPTO YOU THE OWNER TO GET IT DONE,,,,SO,GET R DONE

Women are often ill suited as Rottweiler owners - they will test your strength and leadership and you have failed on many fronts. The best thing you can do is find someone with experience and rehome the dog. Dogs all my life ...5th Rottweiler.

I really want to get a Rottweiler since my uncle had one and his dog was an absolute sweetheart, but I wanted to know, what’s the best amount of time they need for daily exercise? And are there any really good vids on reward based training as I’ve heard that’s the best for Rottweilers

I prefer 2 walks about thirty minutes to an hour each, going to parks or on hikes on the weekends, maybe take him to a lake or river for some play in the water. When you get home he'll usually be ready for a long lounge on the couch.

#1 should be NEVER leave the house without him or her. I did it, once.I got that scowl for hours when I got home.My Mike pouted. When I walked in the house, instead of running to greet me like when I come home from work,Mike just sat there, looking away from me.

A rottweiler and a Huskies has moved in next to my semi detached house. A year ago one of my cats made the mistake to go over the fence to their side and was killed. Yesterday another car went over through their front gate which is next to my front gaten. She was luckier she lived is at the vets overnight had to have stiches to a puncture wound on her stomach. Can these dogs be trained not to dislike cats?

Good video but I think it would have been better titled as things you should always do if you have a Rottweiler. Every point you made was a double negative I.e. not,not exercise. Not, not socialise. Just a thought!

My rottweiler got away from me once. Ended up in the pound and the animal control officer loved him. The officer opened the door and my dog jumped right in
