A scamdemic that is being leveraged to erode our rights in the name of bio-security, just as 9/11 was used for similar purposes (to a lesser extent) in the name of "national security" from terrorism. What a life. I've gotta play this game, lol. I played Human Revolution years ago before I could even differentiate a bad story from a good one, shallow from nuanced, etc. But now as an avid watcher of the Corbett Report, Spiro Skouras, and other similar journalistic outlets (in a world where mainstream journalism is effectively PR) I think I can finally appreciate Deus Ex for what it is. If I remember this comment and feel compelled enough to come back to it after I finish the game, I'll be sure to update this with my thoughts.

Have to point out, the Human Genome Project irl and the Human Genome Project of Alpha Centauri are very different things. The IRL version declared completion when they decided that all of the genes were catalogued. Useful, but not actually complete. There's lots of genes on that list that we don't really understand, and there's what the Project labeled Junk DNA, which we now know includes the system for determining when which genes need to turn on and off. Which is kinda important for things like fetus development. Alpha Centauri's Human Genome Project is a more involved version of completion, without ignoring the minor details. So yeah, curing disease will be a lot easier when we can figure out exactly how all of our DNA is doing what it's doing, since we can then figure out what it's doing wrong and how it's doing it.

The Human Genome Project was already begun in '90s, having its roots in research done in the mid-80s, more than 9 years before Alpha Centauri was released. You can't presume that AC was somehow predicting the future in regards to the project when the project was in full-swing well before the game was released.

Some of these weren't tremendously hard to predict. Kim Jong Il was 70 years old when he died, which is very old for how fat he was. His days were numbered. And knowing that Kim Jong Un would replace him is just a matter of having done research. A war between Georgia and Russia was also not that hard to predict if you knew anything about the region. What they got wrong was that in real life, Georgia started that shit, not Russia. The Deus Ex thing can simply be explained by them just drawing a random skyline with the 20 or so pixels that they had available at the time. It's not like there are any other clearly visible New York landmarks either. It's just generic buildings.

I always thought that image was weird, I've been to New York only twice, but I've seen it a bazillion times in media like everyone else...yet, it really doesn't look like New York. Increasing the height for just two particularly tall buildings would have created a bunch of black/transparent pixels, and roughly doubled its memory usage- which, by the looks of it, is probably already roughly equivalent to or slightly more than an entire character model. RGB rasters are expensive, and this was in an era where having multiple gigabytes of VRAM (or heck, even just regular RAM, probably) was almost unheard of. (Of course, they could have tried to store it as a monochromatic image and introduced colouration during shading or something to triple their effective memory budget, but they didn't.)

Looking forward to Andy coming back (he seems to already be so judging by the latest vid on the channel). I don't have any dislike of the Outside Xtra crew, they've been running the second channel very nicely and their videos are good. But whenever they turn up in a majority OxBox video, something doesn't gel. I think it's the difference in energy levels the presenters are giving it. In context of OxXtra, all's well, but placed right next to OxBox's usuals and especially when outnumbered by them, they regrettably come across as bored. At least to my ear.

European football was formally called "association football," and over time through abbreviations (players being called assoc.ers) the sport eventually came to be called soccer, a term that Americans starting using with frequency to establish difference in American English and UK English. Not to mention that European football was first played back in 1863, while American football was first played in 1869, and it was basically exactly the same as rugby back then. Honestly, did you do any research before posting this comment?
