The whole point of the first Diablo game, the dungeon the monsters and even slaying Diablo himself, was to draw in a powerful champion then as he fought his way down to The Lord of Terror, slowly corrupt his mind with madness before the confrontation. Diablo's plan all along was to possess a strong vessel so he could go about freeing his brothers. The champion didn't just "think he could take it" he was the victim of a plot by Diablo's conspirators. It still fits in the list but you give the poor guy too little credit.

The one that hit me hardest was Morrowind. You don't find out in-game, but your actions indirectly result in the entire island being devastated several years later. As Vivec's power fades, the giant meteor suspended over Vivec City gets released from its time stasis, crashing into the ground at terminal velocity and causing Red Mountain to erupt. This kills practically everyone you interacted with during the game, so no happy endings.

The meteor would have fallen anyway, though. Vivec's power (and that of Almalexia and Sotha Sil) was already fading, since the Tribunal lost the tools they needed to top off their divine powers. Vivec would've eventually been too weak to stop it from falling, and the whole mess happens anyway. Also, what kind of idiot god leaves a meteor hanging over his own city like that? Oh right, Vivec does because he's an egomaniacal prick that wants his own worshippers to fear him.
@MarkDeSade1002 жыл бұрын
@@nicholasfarrell5981 It's been a long time since I played Morrowind, but IIRC the Tribunal weren't really gods at all. Weren't they just high-level adventurers who found artifacts that gave them godlike powers? So Vivec probably didn't have the power to completely eliminate the meteor, he just did the best he could.

Which isn't really fair because is far as I can tell all Andrew Ryan really did was have the idea to create rapture. He wasn't really a scientist or an architect or an artist.

I also want to point out Tales of the Abyss. You follow your swordmaster, the only person in the game up to that point to NOT lie to you and cheat you and treat you like crap, to find out that the stuff he wanted you to do incidentally led up to allowing your beloved swordmaster to quite literally destroy the surface of the world. The rest of your squad reluctantly welcomes you back but not before giving you a boatload of grief for being all "its not my fault" and "he made me do it"

With the Borderlands series, killing the Destroyer at the end of 1 also somehow allows Hyperion to grab the eye and use it for their laser in The Pre-Sequel that they use for trying to destroy Elpis, Pandora's moon. So, killing the Destroyer (the monster you mention) causes even more harm than just wreaking havoc on Pandora. It basically inadvertently caused all of the things that happen in the other two games.

In Chrono Cross, your primary villain is a furry named Lynx, who murdered the family of your first (unless you recruited Poshul) ally, backstabs everyone under him, consorts with shadow demons, and at the end of the first act, swaps bodies with you so you have to answer for all his evil shenanigans while he commits even more evil acts in YOUR body. Finally catch up with him, and you find out that Lynx is actually FATE, a supercomputer in the futuristic city of Chronopolis, drawing its power from the Frozen Frame, which, near as can be told, is a fragment of LAVOS, which you may recall as the ultimate world-devouring evil from Chrono Trigger. So you destroy FATE. . . And hey, guess what: FATE's purpose was to PRESERVE the world by sealing away the Dragon God Shadow-of-the-Colossus style, who had presented themselves to you as guardians of the world but are actually fragments of one being who wholly intend to "save the world" by wiping out everything in it. And Kid? Your first (unless you recruited Poshul) ally? She's cool with that. Bravo, Hero of Time. Bravo.

quick fact: you dont play as alex mercer in prototype. instead, you are the virus which overtook his body and memories. because of this, you awake believing you are alex mercer, and you basically are. same memories and personality. but mercer is dead, never to be alive again.
@jamiekrutzfeldt35228 жыл бұрын
Joseph Payne I'm even more confused about prototype now
@jynxed66six548 жыл бұрын
its a strange concept. if you were to awaken in someone else's body, with their memories, would you be you or them? at the end of the game, he says "alex mercer is dead". i though that was metaphorical before, but ive realised he is literally dead.
@LightTrack-8 жыл бұрын
He isn't literally dead. He says that because he died. His humanity is lost. It's actually a metaphor. Technically, he did die but the virus revived him. "The Virus" behaves and is controlled by Mercer himself. Therefore, Mercer lives as The Virus. At the cost of his Humanity.
@ImperativeGames8 жыл бұрын
He lost himself and became main villain in Prototype 2, so that's also that. Personally, I think you killed yourself from one second (brain cycle) ago and took his place, taking all memories from him and stuff. But people tend agree that's new you == old you... so why Mercer is different?
@mrwindupbird1018 жыл бұрын
That raises a lot of philosophical questions when you think about it. Is it Alex because they are his memories or is it the Virus because it is physically the virus? Are we more than our memories?

People don't get it I assume because in Borderlands games series we are NOT the good guys. We are the villains.
@coltonwilliams41536 жыл бұрын
That is a good point. Well, not what we would call villains. The playable characters motivations aren’t doing bad things for the sake of being bad. They’re all consummate mercs. Hired guns doing a job and looking for the big score. I’ve only played the presequal and 2, but I assume that’s what it is in the first. Far as I’m aware, the only time you obviously work for the bad guy is the presequal, and that’s because you didn’t know what kind of @ss Jack was. Although I wonder if Wilhelm and that one chick Jack ended up dating (can’t remember her name) would have still wound up working with him.
@guitarbass226 жыл бұрын
In 1, you’re a bunch of mercenaries after the riches of the vault (which you do end up finding in Knoxx’s armory in the third DLC so it’s not all bad). In TPS, you are working for Jack and he is paying you...whether he is good or bad is kind of not your concern. In 2, you are after another vault to start, but then get flung into this massive mess that is Jack’s crusade over the people of Pandora and you end up fighting for the good guys, led by the mercenaries of the first game. It’s all very crazy when you think about it.
