No Man's Sky COULD have been fantastic. If they had worked more on giving it some semblance of a story, not lied about the features (and enhanced those features it actually had), and actually gave it some kind of viable and worthwhile ending... The only thing good about it (at the time of release), was how pretty it looked and how well the procedural engine worked. Other than that, it was a severely lacking "game" that wasn't... and still isn't... worth the price most people originally paid for it.

GabiBlue Dragon Savan (the arisen at the prolouge) does not die at the start. "spoilers" because he is the final boss

Errol Tan I know, I meant that your character of the arisen dies when the dragon takes your Heart, I know that the other one doesn't die but I thought that that was duke edmun not Savan who I never heard of and has only the Final boss in the dark arisen dlc, in the original the dragon is the final boss

GabiBlue Dragon lol savan is the final boss in the original dragons dogma not dark arisen, you fight him after you defeat the dragon to unlock new game plus. afterwards he is replaced by your previous arisen when you start new game plus. the final boss in dark arisen is daimon

What about Fable II where the circumstances of your death are so tragic that it makes Death itself sad and decide to not bother. Or your yet-untapped magical hero abilities bring you back. Or the pain of literally just a few seconds ago watching your sister be murdered and your desire for vengeance keep you going. Or mystical seer magic. Or the power of a dog's love. It's never properly explained. Also for a ghost to use a filing cabinet, couldn't they just put their non-corporeal face through the draw they wanted? Or meet Vincent Schiavelli on a train?

Actually Shepard did die, the project was called Lazarus and Lazarus was a guy in the bible who was brought back from the dead by Jesus and has become synonymous in pop culture with resurrection (Like the Lazarus Pit in Batman). Yes I am fun at parties. The point is, they reconstructed Shepard. The Shepard you play isn't the original Shepard but essentially a clone.

I agree the name is associated with resurrection, but I remember it as an intense coma recovery, not a clone construction.

Jensen survives, even if just barely, and many of his augmentations were done at his boss' request, not out of necessity. Shepard totally dies. Of suffocation. Then he burns when entering the atmosphere. Then he hits the surface at terminal velocity. I'm surprised they revived him instead of picking up a bit of dna from his gooified remains and cloning him.

It still counts IMO, considering some of the things featured. You learn it's a dream after, but you still _have_ to get stabbed by faceless monster children/smashed by a roller coaster (if you even make it that far)/heartsqueezed by a ghost/stabbed by a novelty-size version of one of those knives from a mall knife shop to continue. And in the case of being heartsqueezed by a ghost, it turns out that that _was_ an outright death, just not for main player character Henry Townshend.

At the start of the game, before Raziel is cast into that whirlpool and turned into a wraith, he's a vampire, so technically he's already dead and thus can't die again. You only die once. Good title for a Bond flick ;)

I think SR deserved at least a honorable mention alongside LoK, but Raziel dies in the opening cutscene, so you're not even playing the game yet. Then again, maybe God of War 2 and Painkiller is the same? No idea really, never played them. Oh and final thought: this kind of list tends to limit one entry per franchise.

+toongrowner1 Kinda. They're both resurrected as part of a larger plot, but with opposite purposes. Kain was meant to become the Guardian of Balance, keeping the pillars from collapsing. Raziel was reborn as a wraith in order to, through a very confusing system of timeloops and temporal paradoxes, destroy the pillars and allow those demon things into the world. Seriously, you could write a thesis on the timeline of Soul Reaver 2 and Defiance.

He's revived like one cutscene later, but Rex from Xenoblade Chronicles 2 definitely counts. Beware Spoilers below: Rex is hired to help a mysterious group salvage something incredibly old, which turns out to be an ancient ship. While exploring the ancient ship with the group, they come across a vault that only Rex can open. Inside is a capsule containing a mysterious girl, and in the ground in front of the capsule is a glowing sword. Though he is warned not to touch the sword, Rex ends up doing so and is stabbed through the back by Jin, the group's mysterious leader. After dying, Rex finds himself in a grassy field with the mysterious girl, who introduces herself as Pyra and offers to resurrect Rex if he agrees to take her to a place called Elysium, which naturally Rex agrees to.
