Up-potting is so underrated, I do that as well and the plants are always a lot less set back from a little decay than a harsh repotting.

Definitely! Up-potting saves me from the headache and worry of an aggressive repot 🤣

Thank you! I thought you had to get all the media out? I'm new to growth orchids & I got scared that the old media would have pests. So I'd get everything cleaned, now I'm scared my Zygo isn't going to make it. I was too overzealous with her.. but the 2 new growths are getting bigger so maybe it might pull through?

Thank you! So many videos make miltoniopsis sound scary. I have some and live in Oregon. My only struggle is trying to keep the humidity right. But one currently has 3 spikes so must be doing something right.

That's great! The Pacific NW is a great place to grow miltoniopsis. In the past, a lot of miltoniopsis breeders came from that area, so it sounds like you stumbled on the perfect climate/environment for these orchids 😀

My Miltoniopsis also has a flower spike! Maturity of bulb and increased photoperiod really made it bloom.

Could someone please explain what the flower spike looks like vs new leaf growth? I'm currently loving my very first miltoniopsis (Keiko komodo) and it looks like it's doing great but I'm not sure what the flower spikes look like. I can't find any pictures online. Mine has a thin green spike with a head on it that resembles a sock puppet 😅 Thanks so much & great video!

The new growth usually appears next to the mature pseudobulbs or right between the outermost leaf bracts. A flower spike comes out right next to the pseudobulb, in the interior space between the bulb and the innermost leaves. It’s a little hard to describe but I’ll try to do a video to show how it looks. It sounds like you have a flower spike emerging. 😁

I just bought a Miltoniopsis snd looks like it is in a peat media.should I repot in bark and moss?
@AttainableGreen
@AttainableGreen 2 жыл бұрын
If the plant is still in bloom and everything looks good, you can repot when the flowers fade and the new growth begins. If the plant looks unhealthy, has flowers that last less than a day, or has lots of wrinkled bulbs, then it would be better to repot it. The media is not as important as the health of the plant overall and heavily disturbing the root system can cause some growth setback. If you can see new roots growing, that’s a good sign for a repot.

Haha I grow in Southern California. My Miltoniopsis can hang out outdoors for most of the year. I bring them indoors to enjoy the flowers and during 90-100F summer days. 😁

Hi can we grow Miltoniopsis in a terrarium?
@AttainableGreen
@AttainableGreen 2 жыл бұрын
It may be difficult to grow Miltoniopsis in a terrarium unless it is a fairly large one. Miltoniopsis can take up a lot of room and space, so if you have a large terrarium, it may fit… a greenhouse or grow tent be a better fit.

I have tiny black spots/dots on the backside of leaves (but you can see it from the front too), I cut them alr. Did I do the right thing?
@AttainableGreen
@AttainableGreen 2 жыл бұрын
If they were spreading, you can cut the leaves off. They are usually more unsightly than harmful in most cases, but it’s better to be safe than sorry! Hope it’s doing better now

Hi Jess. I have a Miltoniopsis whose new growth pseudobulb is close to maturing. The pseudobulb is not upto maximum full size, but it is growing roots. To be honest, the newest growth seems to have kind of 'stunted' because it's been the same size for a few months but it is growing roots now so I guess it's a good sign? Anyway, point is, how long after newest growth starts growing roots will it mature and bloom? I'm concerned that my new growth is a little bit behind in it's growth cycle and will only reach maximum size till summer and perhaps won't bloom because the conditions for it to bloom are ideal now in spring and summer will be too warm. Any ideas? Thank you in advance!

I've had my MIltoniopsis bloom in the middle of summer. The display is better in winter/spring but mine blooms whenever the newest bulb matures

Some Miltoniopsis have different growth cycles so they don’t bloom strictly in the Mar-June season. They can bloom almost anytime once the new bulb matures. The flowers tend to be darker in saturation and last a little longer during spring/fall but they will still look lovely nonetheless. Happy growing! 😁
