What is your fight tip to defeat muay thai fighters? Mine is basically DON'T FIGHT THEIR FIGHT
@wolfhard39973 жыл бұрын
Combinations in punching range, avoid clinch range and kicking range mostly. Footwork is key. Pretty difficult to be honest for me, because I'm long limbed and usually like to throw long range, which puts me right in middle body kick range for them haha

Like you said lots of foot work and angles, utilize strong angles which makes their defence significantly worse and makes it very hard for them to land their linear attacks like their teeps. Also if they like to long guard a lot feint a punch and come over with an arcing hooks to circumvent their guard.

We share the same philosophy! I am a kickboxer and a Thaiboxer, even if I fight in Muay Thai my style is heavily influenced by kickboxing, and I to throw boxing combos of up to five strikes. My boxing is mostly asymmetric, a jab would be followed with a right hook, left uppercut followed by a right cross, a left hook and a final right uppercut and ending with a low kick! I am also very heavy on body shots… I never lose a battle in body punching drills at the gym!!

@@GabrielVargaOfficial i suppose most MMA fighters will want to clinch against the cage and take you down, working getups, takedowndefence and cage wrestling seems like a good game plan to me. Once you get those things (and the very different MMA range) down I’m sure you will do very well in MMA.

Great advice here! GABRIEL, thanks for sharing your knowledge and providing insights- your channel is the absolute best. I started early with American kickboxing and adapted to more of the Dutch style and it's always been my base, I've been a sparring partner for MMA fighters because of my kickboxing and standup game. Four years ago a began studying and am now a practioner of Taekwondo (with still a kickboxing base lol). I always proudly identify as a kickboxer and it's beauty is always my first love. You're an incredible ambassador to our form of fighting arts! I just love your channel and am so sincerely grateful that you do what you do! Don't ever stop man, i would have been such a better fighter if i had had this when i first began 23 years ago! Much love and thousand thank you's. You're outreach is impacting and changing lives : )

gabriel as you’ve said before in a previous video, i think a mix of both the thai style and the dutch style is the best. on the outside you have a thai stance and base light on the lead leg ready to teep or check kicks if someone attacks, and on the inside when you attack use dutch volume combinations followed by kicks. this is the best style imo.

For me the weirdest thing in kickboxing is that you musn't grab your opponents leg if they kick too slow. It's a reflex to do so but in kickboxing you have to get rid of that natural gift.

Great educational video. Thanks for sharing your fight IQ. Love those vids. Gabriel you did some videos on handspeed (using handweights). Can you now do a video on what to practise/exercise for getting hard/fast lowkicks (besides learning the right technique of course)? I remember 10 years ago when I was in a thaibox gym we did nothing special...but some box jumpes...tons of squats (without weights)...mitts and mainly just smashing the heavybag for 1 min with 15 sec rest with lowkicks at the end of the session. I have had good legs and a solid lowkick back then...but I really would love to hear/see your routine. The more detailed the better. I really think this is a topic a lot of people are interested in. Thank you.

Something I would add is that if you are trying to deal with the round kicks but you know you dont have the same skill in round kicks to match them, boxing combos are good but even better if you use a mix of boxing and disruptive teeps. It might seem a bit unintuitive at first but it can leave even the best opponents helpless. See Sangmanee vs Tawanchai for a good example.

Speaking of side kicks, how do you feel they work against muay thai fighters? Especially those who like to take that very traditional and squared stance. Personally I've found that the karate style side kicks take a lot of muay thai guys by surprise, and I land them a lot, but I'm not entirely sure how I feel about their overall efficacy when we're talking about doing real damage in a fight context vs sparring. I'd love to hear your thoughts

I am a muaythai practicioner... I took a lot of round kicks in my career Those karate/tkd style ones are quite surprising in the beginning of a fight, cause they are very fast... but in Training i took some hard body kicks, so it doesnt hurt that much Snaping style kicks are very good for scoring, but (at least in general) they shouldnt be used that much for pure damage

Hey Gabriel. I recently started out at a Muay Thai gym and I’m worried they’re teaching me bad habits since I’m technically still new. Had some Health issues and being a weed smoker my cardio wasn’t the best, he acknowledged my technique was good but it when I get tired it goes bad. Even knowing that he’s trying to get me to glue my hands to my head and pull my elbows in tight. Why is he making me do this? The other gym I went to didn’t teach me how to block and just started hitting me so I crated my own guard, and he’s making me so rigid and uncomfortable, and I’m small so if I get hit on the guard it’s going to hurt my anyway? How do you recommend I guard? I am 5’7 and a lot of the guys are over 6 ft tall at my gym. Logically I’ll have to utilise more of a tighter guard and get used to moving quickly, as it’s my only advantage. Any particular tips I can practice so when it’s actually time to get hit I know more than just how to glue my arms to my head?

Gabriel can you make a video on planning a great training schedule to focus on physical more as competitions are not allowed now . as u said during camps u run 5 times a week. I tried balancing 7 training, 4 running and 4 gym. It’s 2-3 a day everyday with different intensities but I still feel the soreness from the gym or legs everyday . After a week or 2, I need a 2 full days rest. I have started to reduce my runs to twice a week as my conditioning is at a level of hitting an 18min 5k and focus more on strength and building explosive muscle . Hope you can help sensei!

Most Muay Thai practitioners are very bad in Boxing.
@elumiomerk40133 жыл бұрын
Tell me about it. Started in muay thai, went to mma and discovered there how truly great boxing is. Boxing is so technical with the hands, a lot of the time in muay thai you just have to toughen up. Really I wonder how much of thai fighters' successes are due to these guys' toughness and fight experience. I used to think muay thai was superior to boxing because of the 8 limbs versus only two argument, but now I know boxers make extremely good use of only those two, having many styles of their use as well. I have also learnt a lot about jkd, and from that I have come to have this kind of thinking when comparing two things: - For what is unique to each one: benefit from them - For what is shared and overlapping: objectively compare them. A technique or a piece of knowledge or whatever is not "owned" by a culture or a country or a fighting style. Techniques are movements made by the human body, any human body. Knowledge are thoughts in someone's head, any person's head. I can even carry over this kind of thinking outside of fighting styles, let's say I want to compare French and Spanish cuisines: - for what is unique to each: I'll benefit and learn - for what is shared and overlapping: I can make tests to compare each recipe without bias to what culture it comes from. So back to boxing and muay thai: - for what is unique to each, dirty boxing, elbows, knees, thai clinch: I'll benefit and learn - for what is shared and overlapping: I can make compare and make a decision which is best.

@@elumiomerk4013, Well Muay Thai does have more tools thats for sure. Personally if i would be in a pure striking match with a Muay Thai fighter, the odds of me winning will be 40-60. However if it's under MMA rules then my chances would be much higher since I've also wrestled since college.
