The liver produces glucose whether you are in ketosis or not, ie Gluco-neogenesi. The minimal amount it produces ( less than a tsp) is enough for a body to run on without adding any exogenous glucose. Dr. Sten Ekberg [not Eric Berg] is excellent at explaining this😊

Is it poss to be fat adapted without being in ketosis? I checked with a blood ketone meter and showed .07. Been on Carnivore for a bit now. 141 lbs, 3% body fat, 30K steps per day and a lot of lean muscle. I eat 80/20 ground beef, 4 oz of chuckey eye steak, 9 eggs, 3 tablespoons of butter, 2 tablespoons of ghee in my coffee (black) and 2 medium avocados and 2 slices of no sugar bacon per day.
@peterzana62602 ай бұрын
ketons fluctuate with time, the highes amounts are right at the beginning of the keto diet as ketons help out until you become fully fat adapted and when you produce more enzymes to break down fat it is going to turn into sugar so less ketons present in blood and more sugar
@FastingWellАй бұрын
Yes, fat adaptation occurs over time due to enzymes upregulating in your body. Ketosis fluctuates from moment to moment depending on a variety of factors. So you may have just checked your blood level when it happened to be low, like after a big meal or a workout in some cases.

1) Shorten your food consumption window - so your body can use up the glycogen (Intermittent fasting) 2) Engage in some activity , like walking, right after you consume the foods that have the highest level of startch/sugar/carbs - 3) Exercise on a more regular baisis - helps to use up excess stored glycogen 4) Eat high quality fat - like from meats which have the quality "saturated fats", your body needs. 5) Consume short chain fatty acids... MCT oil is a great source/coconut oil FYI: Both butter OR ghee contain medium and short chain fatty acids. In ghee these easily digested fatty acids comprise 89% of the sat fat content, with an additional 3 percent from linoleic acid 6) Bring your Carb count down for a day or two 7) Take a keytone suppliment-you're looking for *beta-hydroxy beta-methylbutyrate* there are a bunch of them in capsule form. FYI: If your bodyfat level is above 30%... you're not going to get in to ketosis very easily.. all these tips "MAY" help.. however.

ChatGPT? Is this correct? Does fasting ketosis sets quicker in, when body fat is lower? Yes, generally speaking, reaching a state of ketosis during fasting can occur more quickly when body fat is lower. This is because individuals with lower body fat stores have less stored glycogen (carbohydrate) to deplete before the body switches to ketosis. During a fast or very low-carbohydrate intake, the body relies on stored glycogen as its primary fuel source. Once glycogen stores are depleted, usually within the first 24-48 hours of fasting, the body begins breaking down stored fat for energy. As fat is broken down, ketones are produced, and the body transitions into a state of ketosis. When body fat is lower, the glycogen stores are depleted relatively faster, leading to the earlier onset of ketosis. Conversely, individuals with higher body fat levels may take longer to deplete their glycogen stores and enter ketosis. However, it's important to note that the rate of ketosis onset can still vary among individuals, even with similar body fat levels. Factors such as activity level, metabolic rate, and individual physiological differences can influence the timing of ketosis. It's also worth mentioning that reaching ketosis is not the sole determinant of successful weight loss. A sustainable and balanced approach to nutrition and overall calorie balance remains essential for achieving weight loss goals, regardless of the specific metabolic state.
@FastingWell Жыл бұрын
I have not heard that previously, and it does not make intuitive sense to me. I would tend to think the opposite, that ketosis would ramp up more quickly in someone with more body fat. As I understand it, the amount of glycogen you store is not dependent on your body fat, but rather on your muscle mass. You don't store glycogen in your body fat. This may be a case of chat GPT making things up (which it's been known to do), or it there could be a reason for it that I'm not currently aware of. :)

I recommend fasted walking in the morning if you have time 🤐. Then you eat between 11-2pm. One big meal! 8pm is not a good time to eat!! Much too late. The body is much more insulin sensitive in the morning. never eat past 4pm! I even lost weight while eating hig fat dairy. But I had to switch things up at some point. REAL fatloss happens at 36hs + fasting ! Good sleep also is essential !!!

16:8 is often not a short enough eating window to get into ketosis, especially for someone who is very insulin resistant. Try going down to a 20-hour eating window or eating OMAD. (One meal a day) 2-3 times a week. Once you’ve don’t that, you can eat one day, fast the next. Also, when you do eat meat, make sure it’s fatty meat.

Lots of variables! As some of the other comments alluded to. Also depends on how you're measuring, the blood test is the most sensitive (but not always necessary). Urine strips may not pick up low levels of ketones, sometimes. And, it's not always the end of the world if you don't get into ketosis quickly. Could still be making some useful progress. *General disclaimer: nothing I share online should be considered individual medical advice.

Is there a continuous glucose monitor you recommend to see when your in ketosis and when a particular food has kicked you out?
@FastingWell Жыл бұрын
You could monitor your glucose, or your ketones, or both. If your main goal is to get into ketosis (and see if you stay in ketosis), probably monitoring the ketones makes the most sense. Personally, I just use urine test strips most of the time--they're cheap and easy, and give kind of a yes/no answer (with some limitations). Here's one I've purchased on Amazon: amzn.to/442n7yi I've also tried some breath ketone meters. Here are 2 I've purchased on Amazon: amzn.to/43MhvIZ (cheaper but out of stock currently) amzn.to/3CE7ZeM (A little more pricey) As for the CGM's, I haven't tried any of them out personally, but I've heard good things about Levels (probably pricey), and I think the one Ron Sinha uses is a Freestyle Libre (probably less expensive). Note: The Amazon links are "affiliate" links, which means I could earn a small commission at no additional cost to you.

What number ketometer has to show to prove ketosis?
@FastingWellАй бұрын
Greater than zero 😉. But obviously people shoot for slightly higher levels, or certain ranges. For example, some people say they feel better in a mid-range like 0.5 to 1.5, versus a higher level. It's kind of individual. I mostly don't use the blood tester, I usually do the urine test strips just for a yes/no, because it's so much easier and less expensive. And because I don't care that much what my exact level is.

How many carbs per day
@FastingWell Жыл бұрын
It's a sliding scale depending on your activity level, muscle mass, etc. As I explained in the video, sometimes I can eat starchy foods and still get into ketosis super fast (or stay in it), because of how I time my exercise, doing intermittent fasting, and so on. In that scenario, I'm often eating between 50 and 100 grams per day, but that may not work for everyone--it depends on all those variables.

Studies show most people can store a maximum of 15 grams of glycogen per kilogram of body mass. So, an 80-kilogram person can hoard a maximum of around 1,200 kilograms of glycogen under optimal conditions. That's not insignificant since 1,200 grams of glycogen is equivalent to 4,800 calories of energy. based on this it is IMPOSSIBLE to get into ketosis in 24 hours unless you stop eating and drinking alltogether and go climb mount Everest unaided... the fastest time would be after 48 hours of fasting for a higher energy individual, 60 hours for a medium energy level and 72 of a lower energy level individual while fasting or exercising and eating high fat meal wihtout any carbs.
@FastingWellАй бұрын
I think if you have that much glycogen stored, most of it would be in your muscles. And that glycogen in muscles cannot be released out into the bloodstream. Just the glycogen in the liver, which is a much smaller amount (usually around 100 g). I've definitely gotten into ketosis in a short time, as explained in the video, when I use all/most of the tips that I shared. And I didn't even climb Mount Everest. 😉
@peterzana6260Ай бұрын
when people start the keto diet or do water fast they can lose upto 5 kilos within a week, that kinda proves my point as it is water weight + sugar... for every g of sugar 3 g of water binds so if you do the math with 1200g + 3x1200 you will get roughly 4800g which is close to 5 kilos. after that the weight loss reduces to 100-300g a day which is going to be fat. and if you fuck up for a cheat meal, then maybe it can take 12 h to get back on track. but not for starters. if you can get into ketosis that short amount of time - which i still doubt - it is because you are healthy and that much adapted, but most people looking up "how to get into ketosis fast" will not be healthy and adapted therefore not going to be in ketosis in 12 hours no matter what they do. im pretty sure most people watching your videos are the ones who do the yoyo diets and or severely overweight, and not quite the personal trainers and fitness modells or bodybuilders who already know about ketosis. i myself is a notorious yoyo dieter and overweight who done the keto diet multiples time a year since fuking forever. each and every time i fell off track i have to restart and it aint gona be in 12 hours, even if i do it weekly. especially if someone is pre or type 2 diabetic, or alcoholic, or just fat and lazy. ketosis wont just fell into our laps if the liver is already working overtime for our shortcomings.
