True. It's possible. But it can be difficult. As a result, many/most people probably don't eat as many calories on OMAD.

@GoddessGebrina3 күн бұрын
Yes... if its pill form its technically breaks your fast but if you can put the contents in water and skip the caps you will get the same healing , it seems logical you may delay time frames by small increments bc the body processes everything that it encounters but you will still get the long-term effect.... some people should absolutely supplement when they are long term fasting continuously bc you 100% will not be consuming needed minerals.... but I've found if you are a beginner, obese, properly nutritioned, you really don't need them if it's a 1 off for a few days... But this just my findings from years of personal fasting and research... In the first few years I didn't need anything. 9 day water fast or less... ultimately you have to experience what your body needs personally...
@FastingWellКүн бұрын
Most supplements are okay. But got to consider what's in it. Mainly avoid anything with sugar/carbs (more than say 1 g, for example). And ideally avoid sweeteners. But vitamins and minerals are mostly okay to use during fasting (though you may or may not need them). Standard disclaimer: this is not individual medical advice, I don't know all your circumstances and I'm not your medical provider. Consult with a qualified medical provider whenever needed.

The liver produces glucose whether you are in ketosis or not, ie Gluco-neogenesi. The minimal amount it produces ( less than a tsp) is enough for a body to run on without adding any exogenous glucose. Dr. Sten Ekberg [not Eric Berg] is excellent at explaining this😊

@FastingWellКүн бұрын
Hi. Acid reflux does not break a fast. And for the most part, using medications to treat acid reflux also does not break a fast. Just try to avoid medicines that have added sugar or sweeteners, if you can. Standard disclaimer: this is not individual medical advice I don't know all your circumstances and I'm not your medical provider.

hmm, I've been a one meal a day kinda guy for over two decades and I don't believe time restricted eating helps at all with acid reflux, as I've suffered with it for years in the past. Only thing that matters is what you eat. Having sorted all of it out I still get massive heartburn when I do prolonged fasting every time.
@FastingWellКүн бұрын
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! Sorry you're still getting so much heartburn. It might be worth a medical evaluation if you haven't already done it. There can sometimes be other underlying issues unrelated to fasting. Best of luck!

@@FastingWell Oh, thanks for your thoughtful comment. It's actually the reason why I'm fasting in the first place. I've moved around a lot and therefore switched doctors a bunch, but in my mind they're always useless in the end. Fasting however has helped somewhat with managing stuff like tinnitus, metabolism and circulatory issues. Still getting general health tests for blood check ups before or following a prolonged fast isn't a bad idea.

For the most part, yes. It's okay to take heartburn medicine while fasting, and I have done it myself. Some of those medicines are actually meant to be taken on an empty stomach (like Prilosec for example). But if you're not comfortable with it, obviously don't do it. Hi Ben, I am 83 years of age with obesity issues & high BP. I started a Ketogenic IF diet one monthe ago. During the course of that time I have lost 22 lbs decreased my BP so that my doctor has taken me off all my BP medication. I have been folowing several KETO videos on KZbin. Fortunately, I came upon your site & find it augmenting my course. One of the messages about OMAD decreasing my metabolism hit home. Since I am obese & 83 years if age I don't want to decrease an already slow metabolism. Over time as I lose weight allowing me to exercise more I might return to OMAD but it probably isn't right for me. I will do other forms of IF such as 18/6. I appreciate that you respond to those of us who comment on your teachings. Thanks a bunch

Question: so if it's not desirable to eat less than 100 to 150 grams of protein every day (700 to 1050gr per week) then why is it okay to eat no protein at all 3 days a week? 4 eating days x 150gr protein =600gr. Makes no sense to me 🤔
@FastingWell20 сағат бұрын
It's a good question. I don't think I've heard anyone ask it that way before. In general, I suspect the daily amount is more important than the weekly amount. In other words, on feasting days when one eats >100g protein, that sends a certain signal to the body that food is available, it's okay to build muscle, etc. Kind of like how certain hormones spike (think female repro for example), and the pattern matters much more than the total amount. That anabolic signal from high protein can last more than a day, as can the signal from resistance exercise. So having those days during the week allows one to better "stay afloat", so to speak, in terms of strength and lean body mass, even if doing something like ADF (as in your example). And it's probably a better approach than having a lower signal every day (like eating 60g protein daily w/ OMAD, for example), in terms of getting benefits from both fasting and from high protein / exercise. It's a complex topic though. There are a bunch of different hormones and things at play. Our bodies are not simple! So it can certainly be confusing, even for someone who has studied physiology. Hey! It's usually okay to have low blood sugar while fasting, as long as you feel well. Ketones are kind of picking up the slack. But be mindful, it depends on your health circumstances. You can always eat something simple like a spoonful of peanut butter, some olives, or chia seeds, if you're worried about it. I have another video coming out about that, but I think I also talked about it in this one (discussing my results from fasting 7 days): kzbin.info/www/bejne/rYjSqGeDp5tkndk Standard Medical Disclaimer: None of what I share online should be considered individual medical advice. @FastingWell20 сағат бұрын
I don't know if you could say a specific number of calories. That sounds fairly reasonable, but I think the type of food is more important than the number of calories. For example, someone can consume a few hundred calories of pure fat, and it doesn't really interfere with fasting. But even a modest amount of sugar will throw things out of whack. Thanks for the question!

Half an avocado is about 130 calories. How does that not break your fast?
@FastingWellКүн бұрын
You can call it modified fasting, or fasting-mimicking if you want. But the reason it doesn't necessarily "break" a fast is because most of the same processes will continue in our bodies, despite that small amount of food intake. It's not enough to raise blood sugar much (for most people), won't really interfere with ketone production, etc. Most of the energy from the avocado is fat, so it's also kind of like "fat fasting". If you can go without, fine. But if not, it's a perfectly reasonable thing to use as "training wheels".
