Excellent post, I agree with you acquiring land in rural areas will be face to face phone calls and emails won't work, you choose an area you wish to leave in,go to induna ( preferably in the morning) you'll introduce yourself be prepared to answer a lot of questions ,who are you where you were born ,your family lineage just background based questions , rural people don't want to leave with unusual people who do unfamiliar things, if the induna agrees he will take you to show you your stand where it starts and end and give you a stand number,he will write your name in a register and give you a slip (proof of payment) we payed R500 and a case of beer and bottle of gin (ten years ago) you take your slip you go to the municipal office you pay a municipality registration fee so they register your stand on to the system the cost depends from area to area just like in the city , once that is done the municipal office will sent workers to install water pipes and electricity if it is available in that particular area, then you start building. Yes you won't get title deeds because the land is tribal it belongs to the nation and you won't get a house bond but on the good side no one will ever repossesse your house even if you are bankrupt because the land you build on is not yours it belongs to the nation.

So if you don't have any family linage does this mean one won't be able to acquire land? Like me I'm from the free state and I'm interested in acquiring land in the rural area, do I forfeit?

@@MissTeeDOTMHG I don't think that will stop you from acquiring land no, but the villagers like to know who lives among them ,I know that once you're given land the induna will introduce you to some people living there, so everyone knows lapha kukaMokoena or kaMchunu and so on ,so the villagers know to include you when they have ceremonies, you'll never know until you go and enquire yourself,

Thank you for this informative video my sister. Urbanised black people have to understand that rural life is different from what they are used to. In the villages, human relationships are more valued than pushing money forward in everything. Yes money has its role but be more of an asset yourself as a person to the community. I saw your hubby in the video doing his thing with the donkeys and I was envious 😂

Most definitely and if people start making this moving to rural areas all about money, they are making it difficult for those who are deserving but have no money. Tribal land is ancestral land and it is not for sale. Thank you for your insight. Peace and love. 🙏🏾❤️

I believe rural land which is ancestral land should not be sold. It will lead to gentrifying the ancestral villages. These villages are our social security in Africa. That is why we can never be homeless as we have our village/rural homes to fall back on. If poor villagers become homeless/landless after losing their birth right it will lead to civil strife and they may retake their ancestral land they sold by force..leaving buyers at a huge loss. White South Africans who are less than 5 million control 70% of South Africa arable land. That is the land which should be made available to black people who want to scale up their farming activities. 48 million blacks have less than 20% of the land..it is not enough.

@@VelileLifestyleDecorTV I understand now, thanks for clarification Velile. I remember people who were given land taken from white people by Mandela under Land Restitution Act 1994/RDP sold it back to whites for next to nothing defeating the noble goals of the programme. I was thinking if it allowed in rural/ancestral lands most will take the money and end up homeless/landless.

@@VelileLifestyleDecorTV ALL THIS LAND WAS SOLD BACK TO WHITES ON THE CHEAP Mandela calls for land reform Buchizya Mseteka Wednesday 24 June 1998 00:02 SOUTH AFRICA'S President Nelson Mandela warned yesterday that only a fair redistribution of land to its former black owners would guarantee peace as the country emerged from apartheid minority rule. Mr Mandela was speaking at an emotional ceremony in this sleepy town in the volatile KwaZulu- Natal province, held to mark the handing back of more than 600,000 hectares of land to former black owners. Mr Mandela, who became president in 1994 in the country's first democratic elections, said the Land Reform Programme that his government had enacted in its first year in power would help right the wrongs of the past. "Our land reform programme helps redress the injustices of apartheid. It fosters national reconciliation and stability," he told a gathering, which included the Zulu King, Goodwill Zwelithini. "It also underpins economic growth and improves household welfare and food security." he added. The ceremony involved handing back land to about 85 black households, whose land was expropriated by whites during the apartheid era. Up to 25 of the beneficiaries were black women. Mr Mandela said that his government's land reform, which involves negotiations between the victims of apartheid and the whites who still own most of South Africa's best land, would help create stability by raising living standards. "The progress we are making in land reform is matched in our efforts to address the poverty that apartheid created," he said. South Africa's land reform programme contrasts sharply with that of neighbouring Zimbabwe where the government of President Robert Mugabe has given notice that it will expropriate land from white owners without any compensation. In South Africa, land redistribution is done through the Restitution of Land Rights Act enacted in 1994. This involves buying back land at market value after negotiations between former black owners and white farmers. Land ownership is one of the most emotive issues in South Africa, where whites make up 13 per cent of the population but control over 70 per cent of the land. South Africa's parliament passed legislation soon after the first all- race election in 1994 giving thousands of blacks stripped of their land under decades of apartheid three years to claim it back. About 23,000 cases have already been lodged with the commission, which is overseeing the restitution of land rights. Statistics show that up to 400,000 hectares of land have been redistributed back to almost a quarter of a million of former black owners. But the scheme has its critics, who say land redistribution is not moving fast enough and say the government programme must be speeded up if South Africa is to avoid Zimbabwe's problems. Ground-breaking land tenure protection to shield black farmworkers from arbitrary eviction by landowners also became law in South Africa in November last year. The farmworkers, who are mostly black, have been one of the most disadvantaged sectors in the country. Previously, they had no recourse to the law in cases of eviction, even if their families had worked the same farm land for decades. Mr Mandela's government is not bent on a confrontational approach with white farmers and businessmen. It is also encouraging new black land owners to join in economic partnerships with white businessmen and former land owners. n AP Johannesburg - A flight from London to Johannesburg has landed Winnie Madikizela-Mandela in trouble. It began at the British Airways first-class check-in counter at Heathrow Airport last week, when Mr Mandela's former wife tried to board a flight with excess baggage. When she was told she had to pay pounds 1,000 for extra luggage, she said she had only one-third of the money. After arriving in South Africa, she fired off a letter to the airline, saying she had been travelling first-class on a diplomatic passport and had expected better treatment. After opposition politicians asked why she had such a diplomatic passport the government said Ms Madikizela-Mandela was no longer entitled to such a privilege. It had been issued to her when she was a minister, a post she lost three years ago.

The issue is that rural land is not only about having a place to live, its about preserving culture and heritage. I as a person who is of Xhosa and Zulu heritage, I cannot easily acquire land in a place I have no heritage even if that land is in South Africa. I believe that the same happens in many African countries when it comes to rural/tribal land. You can buy land in cities and towns. If I want to get land where I have no heritage, I must learn the language and the culture and or marry there. All that said, the entire African continent understands the predicament of African Americans so we will be lenient on you but you must show an interest to be part of that rural community. I would suggest going to the country you want, live in the city or town make friends and learn about the cultures. Your friends will definitely invite you to their rural villages, while there, assess if it's what you want. Make friends there too. It's very easy to make friends in villages because the people are very open and welcoming. It's not considered being forward to ask people about their life and sharing your life story, in fact that's what is expected. Remember, villagers trust each other. Their families have known each other for generations. You're the new Comer and they must trust that you have good intentions.
