CSX & Norfolk Southern Trains Near Train Derailment Site At Trestle Over Bear Creek. Revisiting The Site Of A Chemical Release Caused By A Railroad Accident. This Is Where A CSX Railroad Bridge Collapsed And Resulted In A Plume Of Phosphoric Acid Released Into The Air With A Huge Fire. Includes Norfolk Southern And CSX Trains With A Couple Of Railroad Crossings In Ohio.
We see where the big accident happened on July 8, 1986. I also show the bridge today and a CSX train comes flying over the bridge headed northbound from Cincinnati. I show the area around the bridge and a few railroad crossings along with 7 trains. The trains are all filmed on the same day in Miamisburg and Carlisle, Ohio. We see the old train depot in Miamisburg and some really fast trains including one with BNSF power on the front. I also filmed a train going over the railroad bridge in Miamisburg on the south end of town. Which train is your favorite?
Back to the 1986 incident. The train that was involved was a mixed freight that had 44 cars. The train was going 45mph and 15 cars came off the track. Six cars were piled up on the bridge and Phosphorus caught fire. About 15,000 people were initially evacuated. They started returning home the next day but then the bridge collapsed and ruptured another tank car of phosphorus and it caught on fire. It released a plume 1,000 feet into the air and up to 40,000 people had to be evacuated. At the time this was the largest evacuation in America due to a train accident. It took 4 days for the fire to be completely extinguished.
Don't miss the Live Action Pets & the slide show that comes from the video near the end.
Filmed Tuesday, November 12, 2024 in 1080p with 60fps. Thanks for watching!

I was not aware of that accident and the problems that it caused at the time. I enjoyed watching the CSX trains in this video that you caught in Miamisburg, Ohio on 12 November 204. Nice ride through Ohio railroad history, Brian! That lead engine at 15:35 was #5501…still looking for #5500, the “Spirit of Cincinnati “ close but no cigar! The Lucchini steel was the 3rd largest Italian steel company, Lucchini RS was their rolling stock division. Since 2010 owned by the Russian company Severstal…don’t know how they’re doing under sanctions since 2022. Keep giving us train, we’ll keep watching!

Wow this is like a travel log with many interesting items. You won't find a plaque or anything at the derailment site but no doubt a few small chunks of debris are still around. It's interesting how they saved part of the old bridge supports which apparently had 3 tracks Once Upon a Time. Great variety of trains and cars including the steel train and since you're close enough to Cincinnati the gondola Roundup. Also a large numbers of brand new TILX and PROX tank cars the latter ironically missing the large Procar lettering. Even though the NS train snuck by just ahead of you I appreciate the camera footage of that bridge as you drove underneath just to show the interesting beam placement.

And that derailment could have been even worse as they were worried that the smoke plume could have headed towards Dayton and Kettering . Back then I could still listen to the local police and fire departments as well as the local news media on a scanner and Kettering had spotters on the west and south sides of the city watching the sky . The cause of the derailment as I remember was some kind of kink in the rails that was caused by the heat of the sun .
