These stories are good education, and so is true crime in general. People should know to be wary and careful, but many don’t, especially young people. I happily played tinder for several years, when I specifically wanted to stay single. I went on lots of dates and I had a great time and never had any bad experiences. But I was in my late 30s and had some life experience and have very finely tuned radar for creeps. I never went out with a creep because I know how to weed them out before meeting in person. Too many of us, particularly women, are raised to be too nice, to ignore our intuition and red flags. Always be skeptical friends, and make people earn your trust. Those who deserve it will understand and be happy to help you feel safe. Then you’ve got nothing to worry about on dating apps.

Good but creepy stories! When I was in the Navy back in... well, a long time ago, on a ship stationed in Mayport, Florida, I met and 'hung out' with many women at clubs (bars) 'on the beach'. This one woman was from Panama and after meeting up several times for dancing and drinks, I was quite taken with her. I admit I was kind of a naive 18 year old fresh from boot camp and an Iowa farm boy before that. She was the first Hispanic woman I'd ever spent time with and was a thrill for me since there were no Hispanic people in my farm community. In fact, no people of color back in those days. That, of course, has all changed. I'm back on the farm and I welcome new people, immigrants and such. Back to the story, we were getting closer, and I liked it until the evening she said we couldn't meet up again for two weeks. Puzzled, I asked why. LOL, her husband's ship, an aircraft carrier was coming back in. What, you're married?!! Duh, dumb me. Had I known she was married I'd never have pursued her. I avoided her after that. Oh well, with the 'beach' and Jacksonville being so close to the base, I met many more women to dance and party with. My time proudly serving my country were the best years of my 65 years on the planet.

If you have a proper incognito stalker, saying they know where you are AND sending photos if your whereabouts, respond with "K" and pretend like nothing ever happened. In the meantime contact the police, just in case, but don't give them any hint of their messages affecting you in any way. History shows this has been the best possible way to interact with sociopaths. Sure there were exceptions, but the vast majority will be deterred when they can't get an emotional response from you.
