Maybe I'm missing something but wasn't the guy from the first story like obviously murdered? Wouldn't that be something they might want to pass on to the police...

Exactly what I’m thinking. People were chasing him and he ends up dead? With a partial boot print? They obviously swept the dirt to cover their tracks. I kept waiting for him to say how they contacted the police etc… He said the most obvious is usually the answer.

Definitely! I'm certain any SR group would make sure to point those findings out to the authorities, who would have to be called in anyway in case of a death. I figure that part was left out to make the story "more interesting".

Story 6: I didn't know that my husband accidentally calling me by his first wife's name was supposed to be a deal breaker. I sort of expected that he might call me by his first wife's name because after all they had been married for a LONG time and it would just be a habit and would not really mean anything. As time passed, I sort of thought that he would never call me by her name because I figured we were past that point but when we had been married FOR TWELVE YEARS, her name just popped out of his mouth as we were talking one evening. I could tell that he was horrified because he had no idea how I would take it and I knew he didn't want to make me mad and he didn't want to hurt my feelings. I told him it was okay and that it didn't really bother me, and it didn't. If he still loved her he would still be with her but he wasn't, he was with me. I was not even tempted to let this slip of the tongue destroy what we had with each other. He never did that again and we were married for another 20 years before he died of complications of Alzheimer's. It would have been foolish beyond belief for me to have thrown away those happy 20 years because one day he slipped and called me her name! To anyone who would consider this a deal breaker, my best advice to you is, "Get over yourself!" Don't be so insecure that you attach a lot of importance to something that is not important at all!

Story #2: It seems extremely odd to me that a guy, lost in the woods, would run and run and run, then he'd hunker down, with these three guys after him, ready to shoot and kill, and he can go to sleep within minutes. I've never heard a story where someone who's being hunted, are scared of something in the woods that may be stalking them, or any story of the like, where they could just drift off to sleep very quickly, and stay asleep, only waking twice, and drifting back off to sleep again straight afterwards. Normally, no matter how tired the teller is about what they fear, they cannot go off to sleep for hours, if they sleep at all that night. So, how is it that this guy can, with no fear? Other parts of this story don't add up either, but this is the biggest red flag to me. Another red flag is that the shooter didn't get a shot off. He only started running after the guy got his gun almost to his shoulders. Nah, not a real story. Something is so unbearably off here.

There's a way to teach them to be kind but also firm, direct and assertive, like if a stranger says "please come help me find my lost puppy!" The child could reply, "I sure hope you find your lost puppy but my parents told me I'm never to go with strangers no matter what! Have a nice day!" Also give the child examples a stranger might say like they lost puppy scenario or a promise of candy or ice cream or saying that they are a friend of the child's mom or dad and that they want the child to come with them.

@christafox13
@christafox13 Жыл бұрын
I don’t think there’s any age that’s too young to teach children stranger danger, in a ‘cautious’ not ‘fearful’ way. Also teach personal space and importance of private parts of the body. Kids inherently know certain things are wrong, and there are so many cases where they lack the vocabulary to explain things that happen to them properly to a parent or certainty that their discomfort is valid. Stranger danger and caution interacting with others is necessary and important to be aware of at ALL AGES. Just as we teach kids not to run into the street or play with fire/touch hot stoves. There’s almost always an age appropriate way to explain things so they understand. It’s honestly so dangerous to not explain these things if your child leaves the home and goes out in public places, or if you have visitors or potentially abusive family members/friends entering your home. Remember kids, adults don’t need help from small children. Be aware of your surroundings. And report your observations or any discomforts to your parents as soon as you can. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Story 4 hit hard. My dad has recently been diagnosed with dementia too. In some small saving grace hes developed a paranoia about driving or walking too far from home so, the likelihood of him getting lost is slim. Still, it scares the crap out of me that Ill get a call from my step-mother that hes gone walkabout. Its hard to watch and hear someone who was so agile, quick witted and great memory, slowly lose those abilities and not even realise it. I gladly listen to the same story several times and questions ive already answered for I know there will come a time - he wont even know who I am.

To the guy whose father is showing signs of dementia, the answer depends greatly of your finances. If you can afford a decent place, you are much better placing him into a home. You then have staff who have time and experience to care for him, both things you definitely do not have! You can visit him as frequently as you possibly can, but keeping him at home is a huge mistake. Don’t worry about him being surrounded by strangers, you will be a stranger soon, you will have to keep him locked up, and can you feed and bathe and toilet him? Let him learn to know both the place and people before it gets too bad! It’s NOT selfish, it’s kindness!

To the family with the dad with early onset dementia: I was a nurse for 38 yrs and though I spent most of those last 15/20 yrs as an ICU nurse I dealt with a lot of dementia patients. If you can find a way to keep him home with family he will fare better than placing him in a facility that doesn't and can't afford to hire the kinds of help these patients need. Also studies prove that people do much better around familiar things and people. There are agencies that can come in to help with the heavy duty care you can't. After all he never put his kids in a home because they weren't doing so great. In this day and age we are so busy it seems easier to pass that responsibility on to someone else, yet the ones who lose out are your children and even their children besides you. You will never regret keeping him at home with you as there is still so much of him to learn from and get love from. I promise you that if you put him in a home it slowly becomes "out of sight, out of mind". I've seen this happen so many times and watch these people deteriorate so quickly and die shortly after being placed away from family and friends. They lose the will to live. If their with family there is so much to see, do and it keeps their mind working better and they do much better. I saw so many broken hearted mom's and dads at the end of the day of father's day/mother's day, Christmas Easter and other holidays. After not being visited by family the end of the day for these adults is devastating to nursing staff. It used to make me cry. I would have my own son's come in and visit patients to cheer them up and that helped, but it doesn't make up for family not being there. I hope you make the wisest decision and remember once their gone you can never bring them back. I will pray for you and dad. I only wish my dad was still alive to spend time with. He passed 3yrs ago and I miss him very much. God Bless you all.

All gone. I am also an only child. Cherish every day...❤

In the situation with the little boy in the woods, It's good he at least found someone... I would've thanked God dearly! We still have to teach them at any age stranger danger. Monsters are people that hide behind sweet trusting mask they can even be family members and other children. Make sure to make your babies aware because children will always be trusting and think the best of others especially while being apart of a family of good people... Regardless of our warnings. Let it be known how much you love your children to everyone your children are in contact with and that you and especially your husband are a force to be reckoned with when it comes to them. It lets those Monsters know your kid's aren't their pray.

to the one story: about your song taking a stranger's hand...as kids our mom every summer would come up with a new safe like a pet name or favorite vacation site or something very personal and say that if anyone comes up to us and asks to give us a ride or says our parents sent them to get us, we'd have to ask what's the safe word and if they didnt know...run...I remember one scenario what it actually happen and my big bother asked and they looked confused so we took off on our bikes ...who knows what would have happened...

Story 4 OP: find a nice memory care home and put your dad there. My grandmother with Alzheimer's moved in with us after experiencing a similarly rapid cognitive decline, and all it has done is drive my family apart. No one can stand her, and nearly every day there is a fight about when she needs to go to a memory care facility. We cannot effectively meet her level of care on our own, and paying for trained professionals to help has proved to be just as expensive as sending her to a specialized place. Visit your dad as often as you can, but for your family's, your marriage's, and your own sakes, do not move him in with you. It's not worth it

My Dad who was the hardest worker and best provider for Mom and us 6 kids, 2 more that passed shortly after birth. Mom had many depressive years and was absent alot but Dad worked dawn until dusk and still took care of all of us. He developed dementia in his early 80's and forgot even the smallest tasks, tying his shoes, locking a door, you get it. Never in a million years would we ever have considered placing him among strangers because we weren't " strong enough" to care for him. He was with us until 2 days before his death and I wouldn't trade all the heartbreak, sadness but mostly pure joy at being able to return the love and caring he always had for his family. Miss you every day Dad.

As someone who works with people who have dementia and other disabilities and disorders, it's sometimes necessary. He might need a home nurse or to live in a home with professionals because his family might not be able to keep him healthy. Not all places are bad and they can become family. It should be about the patients need and health

Lees mother - you are a really good mum, you very clearly understand your children 🥰 I think you are already doing what you need to, you now have had an event that has made you aware of the dangers to toddlers (don’t be hard on yourself it happens to us all ❤️) All you can do is protect them until they are old enough to understand, but throwing in every now and then that there are ‘bad’ people around isn’t the worst thing, you will figure out what is best for your babies. Just trust those instincts girl ❤️ Wishing you all the best

Story 5... ummm, keep your head on a swivel, watch your kid! I know it's hard and they can zip off in quick second, but as a father with a 4 and 6 yr old, I notice all the time parents have their heads buried in their phones, me I play with my kids, and get them involved with what I'm doing, even if I have to bandage one up, I have the other help, keep them involved you, and stay involved with them

The lady asking about her dad with dementia: You should move your dad in with you, and look in home health care. Look into having a male nurse with experience with people that have cognitive issues. That is, of course, if our crappy health care system covers it.

Were people really not going out at all during the "covid lockdown"? Ridiculous and unhealthy. No one said you had to stay in your home and not leave. Get out and get fresh air in the woods for goodness sake. Smh. And also for a small child lost in the woods to find a woman, of course he will go with her! He saved his own life. These parents need some assistance I think.

I'm not sure if this comment will get back to the woman who was wondering what to do with her dementia father. I have been a nurse's aide and also have done home Care. I was nurses aided in nursing home I guess I should have said that but nursing homes are more than just a place where your father won't know anybody, often they are a place of great neglect. When I worked in nursing home the management always bragged about the nurse's aides who worked fast so that they wouldn't have to hire more people. But these are always the people that either treated their patients like pieces of furniture or worse were abusive or neglectful to them. It is always better to take care of your own children and parents and other family if at all possible, for dementia you definitely will have to put locks on the doors so they don't run away and eventually you might have to hire somebody to help because sometimes they might get combative. I hope that doesn't happen. My great uncle stayed at home until he died for dementia and he was never violent in any way he was always kind to his wife and their nephew my uncle who is 4 years older than me moved in with them to help out until he passed away. There is really no other way to do this unless they are violent or you are both too old to handle it you and your husband or there is only one of you, there are not a lot of reasons why a person should be put in a nursing home. Educationally has to be done but I strongly advise against it, I have taken care of people in both situations and home Care is very preferable.

The end though 😂🤣 "And remember friends, if you see a fart....suck it.' Triggered a memory for me. My sister used to run to the mirror when she had to fart because she wanted to see it. Lmao 😂🤣 My brother used to fart into a jar because he wanted to "save it" for a future prank. (He thought it would stay stinky as long as the jar was sealed.) Rotflmao 🤣🤣🤣 In their defense, they were very young. To be fair, I'll mention one of my own embarrassing moments: my mother and father were watching a movie that included a stripper getting on stage and singing "🎶let me, let me, entertain you!"🎶while stripping. (She was wearing a bikini underneath.) So the next night, my mother and father had invited another family over that we were friends with. My mother had place a mirror at the bottom of the stairs so she could check her appearance before going out the door which was right across from the bottom of the stairs. I dressed up in my mother's negligee, complete with her see thru robe. I stood in front of the mirror, completely absorbed in imitating the stripper by dancing around and trying to sound sexy (at the age of three, mind you!) by singing the song "Let me, let me, entertain you!" All the sudden I could sense, or feel that I was being watched. Everything was quiet, I think that's why I noticed. I turned my head to the hallway right next to the steps and every single person in the house was watching me. As soon as they saw that I realized they all had seen the whole performance, they burst into laughter and my face and ears burned with the most embarrassment my three year old self had ever felt. I burst into tears and they all tried to make me feel better (through fits of laughter that took awhile to die down.) Even at that young age I knew their lame apologies were insincere.... 🤣🤣 I can laugh about it now but at that moment I just wanted the earth to swallow me up!

Hey Let's Read, long time listener and fan here. I have listened to every single one of your podcast episodes on Spotify and been tuning in every Tuesday for new ones. Since phone data is always an issue for me, I prefer listening to your content on Spotify thanks to the download feature. I'm wondering if there's any way you could possibly upload more episodes to the podcast as frequent as you upload videos on KZbin? It sucks that the podcast listeners have to wait an entire week for more stories, yet listeners on KZbin have plenty of stories for the whole week. I know this might be too much to ask for and I understand if you're not able to, but this will make me and all the podcast listeners happy! Thanks Joel!

I love this channel so much and was super stoked about a second 'Lost in the Woods' themed set, but that SECOND story was absolutely written by a 15 year old girl looking for attention. For that dad moving in or a home..... take him home, his medicare will cover a helper *CNA/at home nurse* to help.... I was mom's caregiver until she passed..... had nurses 3 days a week and a cna on weekends. Especially with all the less than Ideal number of cna's per patient in ALL nursing homes. They lose more than they can hire.

Take care of your father. You can always move him if its best but you should try.. i took care of both parents till they passed. You will regret not trying. I had visiting nurses come and their ins paid for it. They didn't have a mental decline til the end but they had many physical ailments. My poor mom died from congestive heart failure, which was hard to watch, but i did it. My dad passed away from kidney failure, and it was a much more pleasant way to pass. He took care of you js
