I want to do a feature wall in my den. I have to get rid of a closet door, drywall and paint. My question is - can I use liquid nail to fasten the 3/8 barnwood to a plaster wall? The surface area is approximately 8 foot by 9 foot. Thank you and great video!

How do you get your hands on wood to repurpose? I'm looking to do a similar project for an interior wall but I'd rather get my hands on old wood vs planks from home depot

Great video. Thanks. Do you just use Brad nails or also liquid nails?
@TheDenBarnwood Жыл бұрын
Construction adhesive and Brad nails. Might be over kill but we have never had anyone complain.

Which is the best way to install: from top to bottom or from bottom to top? If one person working on it, I feel bottom to top is easier since the bottom aboard can hold the top one while I level and nail it. Am I right? Thank you for your ❤️

Do you clean the wood first? What about mold and bug issues?
@TheDenBarnwood2 жыл бұрын
Yes, we clean up the 100 yrs of dirt after milling each wall plank. Result: naturally and beautifully weathered yet clean and square. Bugs treatment: lots of options - chemical disinfect, simple water Borax mix, kiln dry, and or chance it with thin planks. To each there own.

Did you plane or sand the boards before putting them up?

Should I cut the old reclaimed barn boards on a table-saw to remove the sides (tongue n grove) ?
@TheDenBarnwood3 жыл бұрын
Welcome to The Den Dean, sounds like a great project in the works! It depends on your desired outcome. Either or, there is no right or wrong answer. If you do use a table saw keep the pieces short (5’ or less). This will help ensure straight lined cuts and your wall will fit together nice and tight.

@@TheDenBarnwood Thank you! The boards are uneven, full of character. I was afraid of the imperfections dominating the "rustic" look. Thanks!

When do you stain your wood? Before or after install
@TheDenBarnwood2 жыл бұрын
We stain the fresh cut edges of the trim prior to installation. It’s easier this way with less mess. Thanks for watching!
@htown8602 жыл бұрын
Instead of tricky cuts around trim... Oscillating tool to cut back the trim and run wood behind it would be quicker, easier and likely look more seamless.

I have tons of rando width pallet boards of many different widths. Should i rip them to all the same width or stack skinny ones to match the widest ones?
@TheDenBarnwood7 күн бұрын
It’s up to your creative - maybe try a sample of each design. Lay them out on the floor and go from there!

How would you go about attaching the wood to the wall if you didn't want to make it permanent. My idea is to glue the boards together and prop the whole thing up and just secure the corners. I'm open to alternative methods anyone thinks of.
@TheDenBarnwood10 ай бұрын
Just an idea but we have made a temporary wall out of 2x2 and fastened that to the existing wall sparingly. Then attached the beautiful barnwood to it!

What psi did you set your air compressor to?
@TheDenBarnwood3 жыл бұрын
The PSI will depend on the type of wood used. Test out a range on scrap from 60-100 PSI. The idea is to sink the nail head enough that it makes it less visible. Good luck on your project!
