When I was a little kid I desperately looked for a way to get passed him without having to punch him. Just didn't wanna hurt the lil' guy.

I knew Sif was going in here. I love dogs (especially wolves) and it was so hard to finish him because of that, especially when he started limping. Sucks he's a required boss to kill...but I did try to honor Sif the best I could by creating the True Greatsword of Artorias out of his soul and upgrading it fully to use and eviscerate anything in my way. "That one was for you, Sif."

Bobby Lunsford Exactly. With Sif, I was already expecting something sad from the setting. With Astraea, on the other hand, most NPCs commented on how her evil actions and how the demoness was responsible for the filth and corruption of the Valley. When you find out she was actually trying to grant them so respite, and she was absolutely wrecked from realizing God was the Old One, it was really shocking. When she suicides.. oh the feels.

Azur Vajraca while i haven't played the pre-sequel, i'm assuming something happened that jack reacted extremely badly to. but what i've seen in borderlands 2 was an antagonist that took what power he could for himself, killing his boss and taking his spot, and locking his daughter up in the equivilant of a high-tech prison cell, never to be let out, as she said, her life was essentially taken from her in the firt place, blood relative or not, she was just used as a tool to extend his reach of power. the reason he was hard to kill for me, was his belief that he was the hero, and that to some extent, he did do good for some of the people of pandora, but lust for power and prejudice seemed to blind him. though i will admit, i don't know the crimes/"crimes" (jac being strict may be an understatement... go to that one town with the grinder and listen to the announcements) that the people of sanctuary committed.

Alpha Jalloh Have you played it to the end. They explain in the game the colossus have special spirit powers that if you kill all of them they can bring back a dead person. Which they do. At the cost of character the players are playing's sanity he starts to grow horns and so on.

I felt worse about killing Wheatley in Portal 2 than GLaDOS in Portal. GLaDOS wanted to kill you all along (though it still killed me to see her go). Wheatley, _tiny little Wheatley_, on the other hand, was, despite how much I hate to say it, a moron. He wasn't designed to handle the entire facility. Seeing him floating in space just hurt. Because the Space Core wanted to be out there, floating about. Wheatley had his regrets.

It's always sad when you have to kill a villain who manages to be a likeable character and a good villain at the same time. Plus, I always feel bad killing bosses in dark souls. Many of them are just trying to stop you from doing something horrible, like the grey wolf, and I felt pretty horrible for killing the moonlight butterfly.

When I first played SotC, I had no idea what to expect. I was, of course, programmed as a gamer to kill whatever was labelled my enemy, no questions asked. But after killing a few colossi, and realizing that the main character was starting to look a little abnormal, I started wondering just what the hell it was I was doing. It was the first game to make me actually think of whether or not my actions were moral. Of course, I was already tainted, their blood was on my hands, it was too late to turn back. I experienced one of the most heartbreaking deaths in gaming history, losing my horse, my only companion on this twisted quest. There truly was nothing left but killing, and the faint glimmer of hope that I could make sense of it all in the end. When people question whether or not games can be art, I point them to Shadow of the Colossus.

Xion from Kingdom Hearts. You become as close to her as possible with her being as close to you as a sister (or possibly love interest to Roxas depending on who you are), then have to fight her in an epic battle at the end just to help the version of you that's meant to exist awaken from a year long slumber, and then discover you're going to lose all memory of her. Doesn't help that two games later, when you're a different (same?) character who's never seen her before, a tear falls freely from your eye, leaving yourself confused.

I had a slightly different story for MGS3. I too left it foe ages before killing The Boss, but simply by not knowing what to do. Then as I got bored of waiting for something to happen, I pressed several buttons, including the trigger. In short, I accidentally killed The Boss, so I ruined the moment.

the Chariot Master from Kid Icarus Uprising. He isn't evil or insane or anything that justifies killing him, he's an honorable warrior/god spirit who refuses to lend Pit his chariot(and for good reasons too) and then dies while testing battling you to see if you are worthy of using his chariot(not to mention a long, dramatic and sad death scene). it wasn't bad the first time since you didn't think you would actually kill him in battle, but every time after that, it's just painful knowing the end result, especially if you listen to his dialogue in battle.

I have two that I thought were the sadest. one was the consumed king from Dark souls 3: he is a madman (technically a dragon) who thinks you are there to kill his lost baby son Ocelot. throughout the fight you can hear the baby crying and the consumed king calling out to him, trying to find him. eventually he drops his staff to fight like a real dragon as he destroys everything in an attempt to find his son. the second wasnt a boss fight at all, but was so sad that it kadebit it on my list. in red dead redemption undead nightmare: there is a quest where you must hunt down and kill a race of Bigfoots. at the end you find the last one crying under a tree. he tells you about a monster that has killed his entire species, and that he is the last one left. you tell him that you are the monster and that you killed them because they were murderers. he explains that they were actually completely peaceful. he then begs you to kill him. Its been a while but I don't think you've have to, it's optional, but even if you don't you leave him to live the rest of his life in misery and solitude.

The whole Sif thing is so damn sad, but what I don't understand is WHY Sif HAS to fight you. Maybe I missed something in the story. Why is Sif seemingly obligated to fight you even if he recognizes you as the one who saved him and put Artorias to rest? Also, not technically for the list as it's kinda the same scenario flipped...but killing Quaelag is sad to when you find out she's really just protecting her blind, disabled sister. I believe If you don't go through the dlc first Sif is just trying to protect his masters grave, but when you go through the dlc and release Sif he tries to stop you from taking the covenant of Artorias so that you will not fall victim to the abyss like Artorias did. It shows that Sif would rather be dead then take the chance for another friend to turn against him.

+Mike Zilla As the bonfire re spawns may just seem like a game mechanic serving as a checkpoint, i believe it ties together with the lore. Think about it, you are undead, so technically you can't "die" because you already have. It's like your just being put back together moments after you are "defeated". Your soul is to weak to carry on, so it need time to rest and rejuvenate. (At the bonfire in this case) I think Sif knows this, and he is willing to defeat you over and over until you eventually give in, but you as the main character, can't give up because you must complete the quest assigned to you. That's just how I see it.

kyandeisu tanoko To be fair (and I'm shooting off my experience of just the two games I mentioned) many of those demons were basically blood thirsty creatures. Dante did try to kill the mother and her child, but in the scene where Virgil shot her through the stomach (and then the head), he basically had no reason to do it. She was used for leverage only. Sure, she was a demon and she was going to give birth to a demon that would probably cause more damage/kill more people in the future, so it may or may have not saved some lives. It's a precautionary measure to some degree but it's still pretty nasty thing to do, if you ask me. In the end, it's the world domination that made me like Dante more. Now I just have to get myself to play the other games.

Richard Saren Darx it'll show, like I said that it's easy to misunderstand virgil's intentions when they never spoke of his backstory in the first place. It was always Dante Dante Dante and occasionally he was included. I think Virgil's downfall was counted as an add on mostly because if they included it in the game, the views of Dante would be very distorted, and people wouldn't know if they're being the good guy, or the bad guy.

Masked Man from mother 3 also is one boss i regret killing, he is your brother rebuilt as a robot.

That one was really emotionally taxing, as well as Negative Man, even though he was a "joke" boss. Two others for me were (SPOILERS for Kingdom Hearts) Roxas (KH2FM) and Xion (358/2 Days.)

Not particularly hard to kill, but sad once you do kill her and Otacon starts crying. Hell, it's always sad when Otacon is crying... No matter what game it's in.

yeah Xion especially the cutscene after that, how roxas awakens his own Keyblade with his sheer wil lnot to forget her. TO make it worse it is the oblivion keyblade (called Memoire (french for memory) in german, my native language, making the scene evben sadder)

@@emishimaru-sama6449 exactly. It's because of the fact that she's not technically a PlayStation boss fight, but yes. That was one of my most difficult game moments and I still have the game but I will never play it again because I just... Can't do that again

I greatly enjoyed murdering that damn bird. Got fed up with the blood wing glitch from bl1 and was happy to see I could finally kill the damn thing. Upon seeing the head blow up I cheered as if my team had won the super bowl

technically handsome jack blows him up. Mordechai shot bloodwing with a tranquilizer right before the cut scene, which is jack blowing bloodwings head to hell. I almost cried

Yes which makes him such a great villain, Look at Handsome Jack from Borderlands and Joker from the Arkham Series. They are right assholes but once you get to beat them you feel so good about yourself and really gives you a satisfied feeling once you beat them.
