7 WEIRD THINGS About The BMW i8 You Probably Didn't Know

I've driven the BMW i8 as a daily driver for about a year so far. I have noticed some weird things about this car... and there are a lot of them. These are 7 of them that are worth sharing.

About the gas button: You will find it on all BMW hybrid and it has a safety purpose: electricity (sparks) and gas (gas vapours) don't go well together. So bevor you open your gas tank, the button makes sure that all the gas vapours are gone. Better hit a button than have a burning car :-)

Excellent video, good input. Another weird thing is when you try to open the front trunk. You need 2 people to do it or else it might tilt and break!

I am researching the i8 now for purchase in the near future so I really enjoyed the info in you video. Did not know the windows did not go all the way down. Getting in the car seems relatively easy, getting out was very embarrassing for me.

Pro tip: use left hand, arm extended to brace on the door sill, then get out without needing to try to be upright. I do it in all sport cars.

Roadster is better, the seats are thicker so they're more comfy it has a bigger battery and a better gearbox it is also rarer so less likely to depreciate and its also better to drive believe me i had a coupe and have a roadster now

I went to check one out last week because I’m thinking of getting one for my birthday in November. I brought this up concern because it’s my only real problem with the i8. The 2019 model actually has dual exhausts. One exhaust is function and the other one actually has a speaker inside. So basically, it sounds like a V6 from inside and outside the cabin. Pair this with pretty decent performance (155mph. Not a Lamborghini or anything but will beat the fastest police car) and 20 miles of electricity only? Looks good, sounds good, performs good and functional?

It’s right near the wipers - a rubber cap to pull out exposes the filler port - you can do this without lifting the hood

Yes, but how in the world do you reset the trip odometer on an i8??? I still can't figure mine out. Tips please! I DID however figure out how to open the passenger door from the back seat, which NO ONE at BMW seems to know. Now - how to get the door CLOSED from the back seat - is simply that you kinda have to be an acrobat, which my 9 year old son can be. Why they didn't give us doors that you can open and close with a button - I'll never know...

Driving at 56 mph in 55 mph zone/road is still breaking the law, even though you are only breaking the law by 1 mph. Speed limits are the *absolute maximum* . They are not a suggestion.
