70 hour clock and how to avoid a 34 hour reset

The more hours you are available to work on a day determines the loads you get. So if you wake up with 5 hrs to work you're gonna get a crap load. I say run your clock out daily and at the end of the week take a 34. Your dispatch will appreciate you much more and give you quality loads. If you have one short day in your recap your screwed. I've been doing this 25yrs trust me it all averages out in the end.

I appreciate your comment. Personally I’ve got a lot of killer short runs when I’ve been low on hours. My view on reset is a little different now but also I rarely have short days for recaps as I do fairly well keeping consistent hours.

after 60 to 70 hours work. in 5 to 6 days nights in truck. I want out of truck 2 full days nights. each week. that's enough for me. but some want more. some less. I've run on recaps for a month in the past, no 34 restart. What I found after doing that was that I didn't make any more money than if I had run out my 70 and took a 34. What I also found out was that I was seriously burnt out after doing that. Our bodies need that rest. I'll do it here or there now and then, but I don't suggest running on recaps regularly.

This is a very hot debate! I would prefer to work everyday (i'm out for 1 month) because I get stir crazy sitting at a truck stop in the middle of nowhere for a long time. But that's me. Yeah it blows doing laundry after a long day but the month sees to go by faster. Good video 👍

I have a question, do you recommend me getting a 4.5 size fridge and micro as soon as I get my own company truck? Because I'll be doing OTR. This l Friday I'll take a test on what my lead has trained me on . Mostly a recap yard backing,45 ,90 and close corners. I'll get back to you if I have a question about the clock. I do split time if I'm getting unloaded for more than two hours on my last stop.

I think a microwave and fridge are a great investment. It helps to keep you from relying on fast food and truck stops every meal and lets you keep food selection on the truck. Plus it let’s it be easier to find parking when you aren’t as dependent on finding a place with food and drinks.

Yes it comes automatically while you are driving. At midnight no matter what you’re doing the hours become available.

@@roadroostertransport9339 just remember. You still have the 10 hr sleeper rule. So don't expect to drive 9 hours that and cone midnight expect to drive whatever recap hours you gained back. You will only be able to take advantage of 2 more hours of driving.

I barely ever would use PC unless I was dropping the trailer at a drop yard. I would use PC to go home which was about 100 miles away but that was just because I’m not gonna sit at a drop yard when I’m trying to go on my hometime.

The problem is you get your times back after midnight, and sometimes it not good if your on a load that has to be in within 2 days, now if you have a load that delivers within 4 days from when you pick it up, then working with recap hours is good.

I’ve never ran into a issue with recaps messing up a load. But I also trip plan it and if I think there will be issues I get another load or work something out. I see what you are saying though

If you are free from resposibility of the load while at the dock, (they will call you when it is done) you can log sleeper birth to be safe, Off duty means you are free from all resposibility to legally log off duty. If you have to be on the dock or sit in a waiting room, you legally need to log on duty.

Sorry I never saw this notification but it’s basically exactly what has been said. After I finish my responsibilities for work (usually about 15-30 minutes unless I’m on the dock) I hop in off duty and go lay down or watch tv in off duty.

Long story short, you can work 8.75 hrs per day (drive + on duty) in perpetuity and not go over 70 hrs per 8 days, however that assumes that you are at a place where you can park. The only leeway you have is if you park at say, the 8.25 hr mark, you could work 9 hrs the next day, etc. In actuality, trucking schedules, loads, + unplanned delays no one would actually work exactly 8.75 hrs per day. Hard running drivers would benefit by running hard during the week + get the 70 hrs in as soon as possible, then a 34hr reset can be done before the aforementioned schedule would catch up with you, allowing extra hours of work.

Personally i avoid personal convaience because if not done properly could get you in trouble this is for the first timers out there i know i got my butt nailed for it when i first tried it my mistake waa not going back to where i first started my personal convaience my safety maneger and fleet manager pulled me into their office when i got back to the main terminal and told me about it from that mistake i learned how to better manage my time But now that i got my gramps truck restored i no longer work for that company since my truck is a 1979 kw k100 i do paper logs which i prefer

Only use pc for personal use of the truck not under a load and not moving for work. Or if an officer asks you to move or having to move from a shipper or receiver to complete your break but only to the next available safe place to park…. Never run on pc to advance a load or get farther towards something work related

You can do a split break like a 8/2 or a 7/3. You can pause your clock by going off duty for at least two hours then drive out when you have left and the bigger number must be spent in sleeper berth.

I’ll make a short video to explain and post it to try and explain with some examples soon. But basically you make sure will pair is selected and then go off duty for however long your sitting then you’ll not loose out when waiting extended periods. Then drive your clock like normal and finish your break in the sleeper. Hope this helps some and that the video can do more

Why do you guys not like the reset? Kick ass for 6 days and take a 34. That’s laundry, haircut, and maybe a movie day. Relax and get away from the truck. Also what you guys don’t get is that by running recaps, you are limited to certain loads if you only have 8 hours today and gain 6 at midnight. It doesn’t make sense to do this. My advice is you max every day, take no more than 10 hours off and go again. Don’t be taking 12 to 14 hours off. You are away from your family so make it count and make some money.

Because I can kick ass and make money for seven days a week and I don’t want to sit for 34 hours straight at a truckstop or have to get a hotel or what night you’re right I’m out here to work and to make money sitting for me is not a good thing. Very rarely do I have to sit longer than a 10 hour break. And sitting for 11 or 12 hours getting that little bit of extra sleep and being able to have time todo stuff

Well go back and edit some of your on duty time so that you can run if that happens. Unfortunately it is a violation and will stay showing on your logs for 8 days that a trooper could look at. Keep your head up things get easier and you will find the ways to save time on your clock and make it work. It’s not a lifestyle for everyone but give it a shot.

They do exist and used extensively in the oilfield, the 5th line effectively stops your time from ticking away while you're on location waiting ,it is totally legal ,check into it , your company won't allow it ,but here they do

That applies to most new drivers that are "drones" that are working for the big carriers which in terms are the bottom feeders of the industry. The same carriers that run the newbie drivers to exhaustion over their time, causing accidents etc. In no way shape or form a veteran driver will go with no 34 HR. restart ! None that I know of...

In no way shape or form should you run or do it if your exhausted or not able to perform effectively, efficiently, & safely. I don’t know how you choose to do things but only way I’m taking a 34 is if I’m able to spend it with my family or I have enough time before a delivery while on a load or waiting on a load. I don’t need or want to sit at a truck stop or somewhere for 34hrs every week. Not only that but during the downtime there’s plenty of time to rest for me personally. By running every day and using recaps I’m able to maximize my revenue. There’s more than one way to skin a kitty cat my friend and mine does not include a 34. I know of many that think the way I do including family as well as ones that take 34s. But whatever works bud you have a great day

I'm at home and if out of state I end up hanging out at relatives' houses. For instance now at my cousins' around Charlotte, N.C. over this wknd. I live in MI. So that's cool every time I get a chance 2 visit relatives in different states. I rarely hang out in truck stops to take my 34 hrs. restart anymore. It's been years... Been driving since '93 and the last 14 yrs. been doing specialized hauls btw. How about u ?

@@sebastiangarla8558 been about two years but my dad was a driver and stepdad both being drivers didn’t take them and I have friends that have been in it longer than me that doesn’t take them. I also know many that take 34s every week or every other week.To each their own I personally don’t have family to visit besides people that live within a few hours of me. I haul reefer, & I choose to run on recaps because it works best for me and for my mental health. I’m not saying it will always be this way but I’m working towards goals and plans and so far my way has gotten me further than I’ve ever been. Coming from being on the farm and from past work experiences and business ventures I find myself most productive when I’m working every day and taking advantage of my time to the best of my ability. The entire point of this video was just my explanation of how it works and how I do things to help people asking or trying to figure it out. At the end of the day everyone needs to do their research and do works best for them and how they choose to operate and be effective and efficient to the best of their own ability.

However if u r young and u can still do it, then more power 2 ya. I'm not necessarily refering 2 u. Just an overall thing. @@Officiallomein you can take your 30 minute break any time after 5 hours to gain back the three you have left... and with the way the rules are currently you can use that 15 minutes in fueling on duty with another 15 minutes of off duty directly after it and count that as a 30 minute break

You're not really avoiding a 34 hr reset. You're just breaking it down a little every day. Plus if you have 32 hr long trip. You would have to leave a day earlier. Because running 8.5 hrs a day is not the same as running 11 hrs.

Yea if you had a 32 hour trip but when I’m solo it is more feasible to not take a 34 with all the time at shippers and receivers you can shave off the clock… I can run indefinitely until I go home for time off

I do a 34 EVERY WEEK I'm on the road 3-4 months at a time , I can Disprove any argument against this with 2nd grade math, recaps are paycheck Cancer, duh, Unless you go home every 2-3 weeks which is annual income cancer for a truck driver, i run 6 days hard and do a 34, i get rested ,restocked, and im ready to bang out another 4,000+ mile week, if you have lots of hours on your 70 all the time you get longer runs and less time sitting at docks, companies make alot of money on short runs and Love having drivers on recaps with only a few hours ,just enough to do this here run lil ol 2-400 mile BS, they save on fuel driver pay and still make plenty meanwhile drivers end up with 2000-2500 mile weeks thats Rookie BS , i knock down $150k as a company driver i got 1,000,000+miles in less than 6 years, No recaps Here , Again Disprove with second grade math, add up down time and compare You Shall SEE,,10hr break daily is 70hrs a week + all the other time sitting cuz you aint rollin, again duh

Dude how do you even make money running 8.5. I give you props for the video but learn 8-2 or 7-3 And PC is for personal convenience. (i.e. it’s convenient for me to make more money) quick tip pull your ez pass down for weigh stations and run. These fuel prices are bs and you never get ahead keeping the rules. Btw on your break do your inspection. You have a great path but muddy the water a bit and make some coin. At 62 or 65 prime really brain washes you about fuel economy. They purposely turn these trucks down on power just to prove their point. Smaller turbo spools sooner better eco decrease exhaust diameter better back pressure and yep more eco or just order the different gears 2:91 blows and you can’t pull a hill. Try explaining the mechanical side to the ACE teacher. Omg she was pissed when she had no idea what I was explaining. I put a clamp on reducer on my truck and yep I take it off for my inspection but I get better fuel
