That Mutual of Omaha commercial at 0:09 is a real testament to how different advertising was back then, with how leisurely and informative it is. This slow pace would never fly today.

This is why all of these ads are timeless to me. I love how advertisers used those characteristics to make their commercials so interesting and relaxing. They did them so well that these older ads still have appeal today. It's a shame advertisers forgot how to make ads like these so that people would actually want to watch them rather than immediately skip them.

The 70s blocks are like a rare gem on this channel. I enjoy watching them more than the 80s blocks.

Mutual Of Omaha Commercial Intro- The way that these commercials fade in and out make it look like that man is emerging out of and into the shadows, like the feel of a horror movie. Dolly Madison- Watching these commercials and seeing the snack cakes displayed in each of them gets me hungry every time. “What A Nightmare Charlie Brown” End Credits- Interesting to see the illustrations of Snoopy among the sled dogs throughout this sequence. Not only for the contrast in size and look between them, but also it gives the feel of how much of a true nightmare Snoopy had in the special in the harsh environment he was in. Lipton Ring O Noodle Soup- I never knew that this soup had a mascot. From the way the Zoopman talks and his mannerisms, he reminds me of the Fruit Rollup Mascot, The Fruit Rollup Wizard.

It would be Great if they aired The Old Peanuts Special again!

Agreed. I was a little sad when ABC lost the contract to air them a couple years ago. MeTV (a retro network available over the air in many parts of the country) did air a couple of Peanuts feature films last winter.

What a Nightmare always stood out to me as the darkest Peanuts special ever. Even Snoopy Come Home had more funny moments.

I feel like they were mostly out of ideas for specials at this point as most of the major holidays had been used up. It was actually the only Peanuts special my family had recorded for us growing up so I watched it quite a bit as a kid. Only later did I find out that it was adapting Jack London’s “Call of the Wild”.

Per the Akron Beacon Journal for that date, Wild Kingdom aired on WKYC (Channel 3) in Cleveland.

What A Nightmare, Charlie Brown wasn't on TV all that much through the 80s as I remember - I saw it first on VHS and it only had Charlie Brown and Snoopy through the whole thing. It was definitely scarier and less light/funny than their other specials!

Everyone at that party probably never expected the events of 2 guys with beards listening to a Big Mouth Billy Bass ripoff demanding that Fillet-O-Fish 30 years from that time. Then again, that jingle is catchy, and not bad for a novelty fish. Btw, I am use to Zingers being a Hostess brand. And I usually see Hostess brand Zingers everyday at work. Mostly just to pull them from the shelves if they are nearing expiration.

Dolly Madison was just a subsidiary brand of Hostess used for certain products. Hostess Zingers are the same product. I believe the Dolly Madison brand name is no longer used.

Just getting back on this channel after taking a summer hiatus, and I am excited to see that several new volumes from the 70's have been posted, since I am old enough to remember some of the commercials from the 2nd half of that decade. 4:58--I remember watching Wild Kingdom when I was a kid--and incorrectly remembering it airing on PBS when it actually aired on NBC. I was then building a set (which I still have) of the then-popular "Safari Cards", and I used to like to check to see if I had cards for the animals featured on the program. I don't remember those long Mutual of Omaha commercials, but I do remember that little jingle at 1:27 being played. 1:38--Back when Imperial was actually marketed as "margarine." Most people still call it that, but it is now officially marketed as "spread." I'm not sure if they lowered the vegetable oil content in Imperial, or if the guidelines for calling it "margarine" were tightened up. 5:59--"What A Nightmare, Charlie Brown" has to be one of the oddest Peanuts specials that they ever made! It is on the "Peanuts 1970's Collection Vol 2" DVD set, which I own. 6:16--Dolly Madison was a popular brand of snack foods back then--and I hadn't realized until scrolling through the comments that it was a subsidiary brand of Hostess. I don't remember "KooKoos", but I love that name. 6:46 and 8:49--McDonald's had a lot of great commercials back then. The "We do it all for you" slogan/jingle doesn't seem to be as well remembered as some others that they have used. 12:10--Back when Frosted Flakes were officially branded as "Sugar Frosted Flakes of Corn", before it became taboo to use "sugar" in the names of cereals. 13:09--One of many great jingles that Wrigley's has used over the years. 14:10--Kellogg's has advertised their Raisin Bran as having "2 scoops" for as long as I can remember. 14:41--Perhaps one of the best Rice Krispies commercials ever IMHO!
