To access that hard to get to screw you can loosen the mount nuts on the firewall under the hood to be able to move the whole heater housing out just enough to access that screw

That's good to know! It sounds like that would make the overall process a little easier too.

This was a really good video! I’m a small person & getting at some of those screws can be challenging. You almost need to be a contortionist. It really sucks that they didn’t include the screws. I’m with you on the “not breaking the screw off”, it would be my luck that it would be rattling & driving me nuts. Thanks for taking the time to make this video & sharing.😊

Thank you! It's definitely tough working down there. In other jobs like this I try to lay down partially outside the car (on a stool) and partially inside so I'm in a less uncomfortable position!

It definitely helped because I wouldn't have been able to do it without getting very frustrated and quitting

Good video. This is the most realistic repair I’ve seen. A few others just show them taking the screw out like it’s nothing. I believe I am gonna fallow your lead brother, I’ll stop back and let ya know… wish me luck🤞🏻🍀

Thank you! Take your time and you'll get it, but good luck just in case! It's very satisfying when the new one is in place.

Good job. I did mine some days ago for the second time. Do not need to take out the glove box.

Thanks! Was it easier to do the second time without the inaccessible rear screw?

OMG - what a nightmare .. and thats one pain in the butt of a job.. I was going to buy a 2006 XC90 and I am kinda sitting on the fence about it.. and I am not big into money pits.. still like the car mind you .. greetings from Ireland

Thank you for watching! Certain things can definitely be a pain to work on, but if you have the ability and time to work on it yourself it can be reasonable cost-wise. I'll say there are easier cars to work on! I know I wouldn't have bought this car if I had to have a mechanic do the work, it would have been prohibitively expensive! I'll be doing a breakdown of what everything cost on this car in the future.

I have this same truck same year color and all..lol but I have a question. With this blower motor not working can it cause this type of vehicle to overheat ? Mine just went out and am in the process of getting a new blower motor and following your video but in the meanwhile is it safe to drive other than passing out because of no AC😂?
@frenchineer
@frenchineer Жыл бұрын
You're safe to drive it! The blower motor not working is just like when you turn the fan speed to zero. The engine is cooled by your radiator up front, so as long as that fan is working you're good to go! Don't forget to pack some water to stay hydrated lol

So basically I should just break off the tab from the old blower motor cut off the new tab on the replacement blower motor just to save time thanks for the help
@frenchineer
@frenchineer 2 жыл бұрын
For the tab you can't reach that's what I did! It's much less hassle that way. Just double check before cutting the tab on the replacement unit. Thanks for watching!

Some tips to put it back is folding the carpet to get dome space and remove the 3 screws that are over the little light. :)

На самом деле сложного нет ничего. Этим летом менял у себя на XC70. Примерно за 2 часа управился. Сложного нет ничего.

I see how to make big bucks in automobile building business. Put emphassis on ease of access for repairs (functionality) over looks. This blower job on a volvo looks like 5 to 10 hour job at dealership. Id try to design a car where an owner could replace the part in 30 to 60 minutes. My reward? Seeing makers of cars that are pretty but a nightmate to work on, go bankrupt.
