Today's video was a day out with some mates that I managed to combine with the filming double home runs of the Shakespeare Express! WR Castle Class 4-6-0 7029 'Clun Castle' was hauling Week 2 of Vintage Trains' regular summer Sunday Shakespeare Express. This is a train that performs 2 return trips from Birmingham Snow Hill to Stratford Upon Avon; out tender first via the North Warwicks Line through Henley in Arden and returning smokebox first via the Chiltern Mainline through Dorridge and Solihull. This summer I have the intention to focus lots more on the southern end of the line nearer Stratford, Claverdon and Lapworth but for today because I combined it with a day out shopping with some mates in Birmingham I stayed relatively easy and local.
I headed out first to Bentley Heath to film 7029 making some noise and gathering pace on the run towards Birmingham. After that the 13:55 Chiltern service took us into Birmingham where we had our day out. To finish the day, the 16:01 WMR service took us to Widney Manor, where I set up in the car park. Annoyingly the sun went in just before 7029's appearance but she put in a good show with some speed, a whistle and great noise as one always expects from a Castle. After that we returned home.
Cheers to everyone who made today possible, including VT, NR, WMR, Chiltern and my mates for their company today. Thanks also to the weather which was nice to make a bit of a change to all the rain lol, and lastly thanks to my secondary planner for her support in creating these videos. I hope you enjoy as I do!
