If you had been on the same side as Tangmere to begin with, you wouldn't have been bowled at all. Best wait till the main line timetable picks up properly in March, when everything will be operating more smoothly. It's almost rare to get the combination of sun and steam together, but it's good when it happens. Let's hope you capture other steamies somewhere along the line. Tangmere has had more than her fair share of failure problems, and we don't want her to have any more.

Many thanks for this one. I don't know why crews are so afraid of water in the cylinders nowadays. In BR days, there might be a single blast before starting but now, it's like in this video.
@andrewjohnfox2 күн бұрын
BR days the trains were in and out in next to no time so the cylinders stayed hot. Now much longer stops and the cylinders go cold. Having said that, an experienced driver can listen to the drain cocks and know when the water has cleared from the cylinders and as soon as steam is blowing dry and water free will know when the drain cocks can be closed.

Great quality as always Dan! You must have seen the Pacific more than 15 times now 🤣 it must have been a great experience watching her roar out of Carlisle this crisp winter afternoon. Stay stafe and keep trainspotting! Kind regards Jonathan

Last year, I strove to catch a glimpse of Tangmere. I caught it as it started it's run from Carlisle on the Settle to Carlisle line, but I couldn't overtake her. What a loco. I hit 120mph trying to get ahead, at times running alongside the line, gave me a right run for my money 😂

Question: Why does she have two whistles? What is the purpose?
@thomaspolice94008 күн бұрын
One is for starts and shunting etc and the other (the Chime) is for full-tilt speed warning for Crossings and Stations etc. Also for sound affects!
@crunchynutsteamfilms50435 күн бұрын
Thomas’ reply is spot on! Additionally, the GWR used to use the two whistles in combinations of different lengths and patterns to communicate with signallers, although I’m not sure whether the LNER also engaged in this practice. Regards, Dan

Look who's swapped main line steam for the Severn Valley Railway. It's good to have a change of railway scenery. I hope to see you visit other preserved railways, as many as you can get to easily. It's better than waiting for something on the main line, which might be running late. Happy New Year.

Betton Grange is only half complete. What you're getting is a mix of two engines together. The engine half of Betton Grange is temporarily attached to the tender half of Foxcote Manor. Betton Grange will eventually get a new tender (under construction as we speak) of her own. So basically, you enjoyed capturing half of Betton Grange and half of Foxcote Manor hard at work. Music to my ears.
@crunchynutsteamfilms504329 күн бұрын
Yes, the locomotive isn't fully complete in that sense but I absolutely commend the society on all their hard work, and the tender doesn't matter too much - after all these were swapped around very often in steam days! Regards, Dan

@Locomattive8572Ай бұрын
You don’t like this guys hard work, because there was a diesel on the back? It’s not even working. It’s just ticking over and providing power to the coaches. It’s also an extra 115 tons of weight meaning it’s working the steam loco harder.
@Sidmouth34010Ай бұрын
your loss . they have to run Polar's with a Diesel on the rear as no run round at moor street
@crunchynutsteamfilms50435 күн бұрын
