A much more relaxed time. No internet. Families doing family activities. Maybe this brought back memories for others too.

I grew up in the 60's and 70's great memories mom n dad often took us.I in turn was lucky enough to take my children to many I had been to as a kid. It's sad that they are practically non-existent now.

Those Holiday Inns looked so much better. The sign just seems to pop out at you and welcome you. The current logo doesn't have that effect. Just me.

@Lawn Care that happened after the founder Kemmons Wilson left the company. The new chairman wanted to save energy by using plain signs. He believed that there was no more need of a flashy sign to get people to stay as most people staying have reservations.

We went to our local holidome all the time when I was young just because it was fun!

Like a cruise ship, but on land. I'd go for a staycation.

this is kind of like a primitive Great Wolf Lodge! i find it interesting how back then a regular old pool and some ping pong tables would be able to keep people busy all weekend just like a hotel with an indoor waterpark and their very own Chuck E Cheese sized arcade does today! same i noticed with amusement parks. I heard of course amusement parks didnt have 15 coasters and a giant water park with towering waterslides but rather just one or two small to medium sized coasters, a simple pool with maybe a diving board, and mostly just spin n puke rides! yet I hear older adults say they had just a much fun at their local small town amusement park as a kid would at Cedar Point today! makes me wonder what vacation places will be like in the next 50 years! (thats if we dont end up like the people from Wall-e!)

Me too! Was a staple of my vacationing childhood.

I too miss it, remember back as a kid traveling and seeing that sign lit at night and being seen as far as miles. That was a travel lodging icon that grabbed the eyes of weary travelers, "There's a Holiday Inn. Let's book a room for the night." Not so now without it. These new signs look too much like the BP signs.

Vernon Mines I definitely miss the sign. They fouled up removing that from their brand.
