FANTASTIC car journey to Tromsø, including my first Norwegian ferry!

I drove from the small town of Finnsnes, Norway to the large, far northern city of Tromsø. The drive includes huge, dramatic bridges over gorgeous fjords, a car ferry that I was warned might not survive the windy crossing, and unbelievable scenery everywhere. Everything was even better in the foggy moodiness of a rainy day in September.

Jeremy -- What an adventure! How wonderful of you to take us along. This whole trip, like all the other ones you've taken us on, somehow makes the unfamiliar familiar and vice versa. At 89, I feel like my travel days are done, but as long as you have these KZbin trips (and I have watched some of them many times), I feel adventurous and alive. -- charlie, sacramento CA

My grandmother and mother were both born in Sweden, near where you washed your face with the river water. Just as I did in a Siera Mountains stream many years ago. Now, being older and wiser, I can't help but remember that even those crystal-clear streams are full of virus particles, as is most everything on earth. Still a wonderful experience. Good video.

Thanks. Yeah I wasn't sure how clean the water actually was, I just got caught up in the scenery, what can I say!

@@T1DWanderer I am local. We concider most water in the area as as clean as it gets. We do not hesitate to drink water from streams and lakes. We drink water direct from the tap. Rarely if a filter in the water supply need service, is broken, we can still drink the tap water without boiling. Thank you for the enthusiasm you show while travelling and making vlogs from this part of Norway!

The further north you go the more stunning the scenery and quaint and colorful the towns and cities. 💗🇸🇯

I have to give you credit for trying to pronounce every norwegian word. Your "norwegian" is not that bad :)

Well that's good news, thanks. I actually think I did slowly get better during this trip too. My ø sounds got a little more natural (I hope!)

Båtnhamn. Båtn, literally translated into a "Bottom" is a short valley dug out of solid rock by glaciers and freezing and thawing processes. Botn have semi-circular cross-sections in the inner part, often with a small lake or glacier at the bottom and are characteristic of eroded landscapes. The first part of the name is likely what was the name of an old farm near by. Hamn of course means harbour. To make it more confusing it was ones named Stufunes. Of course Wikipedia would never do me teach me wrong.

Thanks. I was using a rental car and the ferries/toll bridges were added to the bill when I finished my trip. Don't remember this ferry exactly but maybe around US$10 or so?

@@T1DWanderer Wups! Dø means die. Please don’t. Try using the English sounds instead, like nurse (nørse) or burn (børn), then you get pretty close to the Norwegian ø. Nice videos! I’m from Tromsø. 😊👍🏻

Oh man - you did it again! You gotta stop dipping your hand in the water. Last time there was a dead fish in the water. This time you ignored what the moose probably did in the water upstream from where you were. 🤦‍♂️
