For what ppl are asking for bodies these days, you can probably do the floors and everything for about the same price or less if you can weld yourself. I say go for it man. As a Chevelle guy myself, I will be following

Shucks, that thing ain't bad at all! Worst is probably that right rear. Are those Cragar spokes??!!! Those GOTTA be rare, and are a real throwback to the groovy 1970s - I was a little kid, but I was paying attention to cars. I'm guessing Buick Riviera on that console due to its length, but it also makes me think early '70s Charger or perhaps Barracuda/Challenger. Shifter could be a MOPAR product, but my first guess is early-to-mid '70s Olds Cutlass. Cowl cover might be Nova? Don't trust that back window - I see they had sealer on it under the bright trim, and I don't think GM did that. Glued-in glass is a huge PITA. I think you can work with the quarters on the car - just pull out the passenger side far enough down to meet and mate to a large patch for the lower rear. Might be worth working that passenger door. The passenger fender is worth replacing if you can get a good deal on another - that door too. Sucks having to take the windshield out to fix its header, and I'm afraid you're going to find more of the same under the back window. Those areas and the floors are where you're just going to have to bite the bullet. I'd buy a cheap welder and learn myself to use it, before using screws on a floor. A 396 or 454 or more is the coolest engine for that car.
@colemanmech

Sorry I never replied to your comment! But yes, I've got a nice millermatic welder, I think I'll tackle the floors and trunk myself. Those cragars, they fella I got the car from wanted them back, so I've got a nice set of rallys and white letter tires on it now

I've got a 66 Chevelle Malibu sitting next to a 66 300 deluxe parts are out there still you're going to throw a lot of money at it but in the end you'll have something worth your time. I've been sitting on my Malibu for about 22 years now and still have not been able to drive it but got the 300 running this last winter and have just enjoyed it. I've owned three different 66 chevelles over my lifetime and it is hard to not want to save these works of art. Someone once told me if you weren't born with a silver spoon in your mouth and can't afford the good stuff and if you want something nice you have to make it with your own blood and sweat and hard work. Sounds like a plan for a fun car to feel better about beating on then something that could run a guy $30,000 to $100,000 but for this guy that's just not in the card's so I have enjoyed doing all repairs myself and trying my best to do them justice. Ultimately it is solely your decision. There's a few Facebook groups that are full of guys that work on their there own stuff all dedicated to the Chevelle platform I'm a member of a few and have been able to source the parts through them after hearing reviews about best fitting producers for these cars and also have purchased from different members from there stash of OEM parts for sometimes a discount I recently just picked up full quarter panels the guy had sitting in the shop for 25 years 100 per quarter couldn't believe it.

@@colemanmech You can still on occasion find an original Mr.Gasket in line shifter on e-bay once in awhile thats not all clapped out. I bought 2 of them that fit Borg Warner or Muncie style old school 4 speeds a few years back now. One was New Old stock complete with mounting plate and the extra heavy duty straight shifter rod's and the original Mr.Gasket rubber boot and chrome top cover plate ! Its actually the best version of the Mr.Gasket Shifter before they got bought by Hurst...then Hurst proceeded to screw with perfection and made them their own particular kind of Hell...lol....but Anyway I have a real good used 1st generation one that's going in my Wife's 72 Rally Nova here this summer that we have been slowly putting back into a semi-pro street trim ( we had a Steve Schmidt 434 small block we were going to run in it but it was to much for her right foot)...so we built here in our own shop a 427 Small block with single custom built 780 cfm Holley 4 bbl and custom Hydraulic roller cam, Aluminum Angle plug Brodix Development Heads and a New GM Cast Iron Block, forged Crank, Ross Forged Pistons etc...and it runs fantastic on pump gas so she can drive it anywhere she wants. Its all done except for Paint or a Wrap we haven't decided yet which way to go. I have a true 1970 SS Nova big block car that has a 565 in it that has the Gen 2 shifter I bought with all the parts and then built my self a M-22 Muncie out of a huge batch of Parts from back in the day when we raced someplace every weekend its got the hardened flame sprayed gear set and cluster, roller bearing tail shaft and custom housing, basically an old school bullet proof (for those days) 4 speed while still being the Rock Crusher close ratio trans. I've got enough parts collected over the years now I could honestly build at least 4 more Transmissions Complete and am just missing one or 2 pieces from building 3-4 more and I constantly get more every time I get the chance. Just last week we went to a Transmission shop auction and bought up nearly every Borg Warner or Muncie part the guy had and got lucky and there were two wooden kinda flat shipping crates that had all Muncie and Borg Warner gear sets, sliders, shifter forks, hiem joint rods, and over a dozen new cluster gears that were all face plated or flame sprayed for drag and road racing transmissions...plus we got a dozen complete Muncie Racing Transmission Cases that all have the roller bearing tail housing so we really hit the jack pot there. Somebody is always calling me wanting parts but they are getting so ultra rare and hard to find that I'm getting to the point I just keep 90% of it for our own use. If you raced one of those old school transmissions before the aftermarket started building them and putting their own unique spin on things....you know the torque we were starting to make in the 70s really played hell with the technology available at the time. We did the best we could but if you raced a gearbox you better know how to tear one apart and rebuild it between rounds or have another 2-3 sitting in the trailer ready to swap out or you were in trouble and got loaded headed home in the first few rounds. I learned the hard way.....God knows I broke enough of them back in the day. Wish you the best of luck with your build.
