Dan, as an avid outdoorsman in his mid 50's, I avoided most all this carry on stuff by buying a small 5x8 enclosed cargo trailer the end of last year. Stripped it to the bone and rebuilt the whole thing as an off grid small camper, solar power, sink, propane cook stove, sleep area, insulated, and bottom sealed. Loaded it with supplies and gear, with extra water always in the truck. didn't even forget the 12V minifridge! It was a rewarding long project as I just finished it. All I have to do is hitch & go.. It sits 15 inches above the ground, it's my bug out rig! I halted buying knives and gear since to invest in it, it was worth every penny and every drop of blood from little injuries! Have a blessed day.

Trailers are great on the road , not so much if your got to drive in a hurry on trails unless you build a off road type trailers with a army surplus type trailer if possible , would rather invest in a high top camper shell with top roof rack and maybe an extra gas tank under the truck , 8’ truck bed are great , good shelter , can sleep in if the weather is really bad to set camp .

Good kits and discussion Dan! The advantage of trucks, over a car is the available space inside and in the bed. But whatever vehicle is used it must be in good running condition. For those who have trucks and cannot afford a camper shell, a simple waterproof tarp with bungee cords will provide good overhead shelter in the bed. Another vehicle option are bicycles, I'm a bikepacker and also have a 4 wheeled garden cart so that I can attach it to the rear of the bike and carry bulkier and heavier gear in it, these carts with 4 large wheels is ideal for this. Whoever sets up a BOB, needs to have a plan first, what are the potential dangers, where are you going to, primary and alternative routes to take, family and friends to meet up, etc. Test your gear, take your BOB, go into the backyard and test it for 12-24 hours, or go to a state park, etc. Record what works, what doesn't and if necessary update the kit. Don't forget about the needs of children (toys, games, etc), pets, medicines, food, etc.

I seen on Coal cracker a little tool roll pouch to keep your cord separated in your pack. I’m going to try to make one eventually to keep my cords and ridge line’s organized.

Good evening Sir! This was a great video! When you said the numbers on how many folks had been displaced, I was blown away. I mean you see the news and events, but damn, that’s a big number. It just goes to show how important it is to be prepared! So, I know KZbin isn’t big on showing firearms, and I also know that they aren’t a big part of your channel…….That being said, are they a part of your bug out system? Thanks for all the great videos! Take care!

I'm watching this a 2nd time. Lots of good ideas. It helps me check my own emergency stuff. Even though I'm in a different situation these skills can be still be useful. I'm kinda set up like except for a truck. I recently got a Esee5 3D and a Junglas2. You and a few others convinced me. I'm done buying knives, hopefully. Here in Canada things are not so easily available so you have to get stuff when it's in stock. And Esee knives are sold out most places. Ok on to pt 2.

@ochocobushcraft1742 Жыл бұрын
Thanks? How are you liking your Esee knives? The Junglas 2 is still my absolute favorite survival knife. Just gave a design to my leather maker for some new ideas for a sheath for it. I'll do a video when it's finished.

Great setup. I'm ready to go at all times. However I keep what I call a migration kit because I want to go to another city or town but not go into the Wilderness at my age because half the time it's winter and it's just too severe here in Canada.

Good plan! It looks like you got just about everything for your needs covered! For a power bank, I have one of those banks that can jump start a car or truck. I've jumped a car 3 times with one charge, and it still had about %30 power left in it. It's got a bunch of different ports on it so I can charge just about anything with it. Plus, it has a cable that fits in a cigarette lighter port in a vehicle, so if you have one in your vehicle, you can even recharge it. t holds a lot of power, so a charge will last a long time. Plus, God forbid your cars battery dies, you can jump start it. It would really suck to find out your battery is dead when you are miles away from any help.

Questioned: Experts say an EMP threat is very real now days and chaos follows, and your truck was out, and all you could take would be what you can carry, what would that be?

I have an older ATV, that would most likely run. So mu packs a d duffel bag would still fit on the racks. I also have a mountain bike and could pull a small trailer. So still definitely my packs and duffel bag.

watching your video, makes me realize, ...I got some work ahead of me....I don't have half of what you got in gear....Only a 5 gallon bucket of water , a 5.11 rush24 2.0 packpack filled with basic gear. I am curious to know what you would do, about armed gang of thieves stealing your gear....I've seen riots , where fully loaded preppers (with ammo & weapons) got taken down by mobs of people. Have you considered this in your bug out plans?

@@ochocobushcraft1742 fair enough! Propane and isobutane also perform very badly at cold temperatures (I live in north central Alberta, Canada for reference) where white gas and alcohol are much better. That's another option, a decent multi fuel stove that burns white gas or kerosene. Those are a lot of fun!

I carry two Firebox multi fuel stoves, they take up very little room and anything from twigs to cut up small branches to alcohol burners and butane bottle burners one is the original SS style and the other is the Nano! Then I have a Emberlit SS multi fuel stove in a separate carry case for cooking water boiling and emergency heat! Nice video!
