This is my 1972 oldsmobile cutlass 442. this is just after replacing the cam with the comp thumper cam. This is the re-upload since the original post mysteriously lost audio.

For those of you saying that's a fake 442 because it has a 350 you really should at least do a simple google search before making yourself look dumb. Olds 442 did come with a Rocket 350 not to be confused with a SBC350 ( Small Block Chevy 350 ) the Rocket 350 is a completely different animal and one hell of an engine. Do a little research and you'll see what I'm talking about. Also the 442 was much more than an appearance package. The 442 has different suspension, rear ends and handling package. There's a reason a 442 cost two times as much as a Cutlass and it's not because of appearance.

Steve Carguy You are absolutely right. I had a '72 442 back in the day and it came with a 350 rocket. Loved that car!

Sounds awesome! I own a W31 with flowmaster vintage 40s mufflers. I cant get over the sound! Love it!

That's not true of oldsmobile. The 1970 w30, had air condition as an option. In fact you could get power windows and other luxuries. Power brakes on the other hand was not an option for some Oldsmobiles because of the long cam duration, not enough vacuum. The 350 ramrod version, later known as The w 31 option, had this cam from the factory.

I was missing mine and yours sounds alot like my 71 442. it had the 455 over .30 with a thumper cam, His/her shift. 3.73 posi 12 bolt.

Drew Jones upgrading the cam was good, but adding headers woke the engine and cam up tremendously for me. good luck!

My man, That sounds great! I just bought a 71 cutlass s 350 2bbl. I'm about to get a nice edelbrock 4bbl intake and some headers, maybe a nice 3.55 posi. Would you recommend this cam? It sounds fantastic by the way did you lose very much low end? any complaints? Thanks -Tanner

Tanner get the factory W-30 grind camshaft for the '70 442 automatic you will love it I find the factory cams work the best for there spec. I built a wild small '67 330 - 400 HP. AS WELL AS '66 425 - 520+HP. Just with a few tricks that small block will motor quit well and you will be happy Joe Mondelo & Doc. Watson knew how to make them work real well... There is some head work that can be done or Edelbrock heads do wonders even the Edelbrock heads can have work to them as well if you know what your doing...

Another note regarding "Fake 442" - Not all 442 had Exhaust cutouts and some came with a two barrel carburetor. You could also get a real 442 with a bench seat and colum shifter.

This is true, as some of the 442 appearance packages I believe were installed by the dealership.

71 had cut out bumper, all were 455, 1972 350 standard with no cut out , 455 optional with cutout , i had both years, best looking 442 s. In fact best looking Oldsmobiles.

I know it's been a while, but in the video it mentions hooking up the a/c compressor. I am debating going with the same cam and I was wondering if there were any issues running a/c with this cam?

David McVay the ezefi was self learning. did have to give a little more or less idle air depending on the season. i no longer own the vehicle.

The exhaust I believe was dual with h-pipe, and supposedly flowmaster mufflers. I got rid of the car back in 2016 as I didn't have the funds to do what I wanted.

To me I would not have any power anything. No AC no powerwindowns ect. Especially on a or my 70 w-30 Got to have a rear defogger which weights absolutely nothing. I have had almost every muscle car there is .I have had many 442,s and w machine,s with AC too power everything but to me if I and who is having a w machine runner like I said ,I'd have nothing only my rear defogger . That's just me God Bless and Enjoy everything!!

My '70 W-30 manual steering & brakes "F" heads factory 328 duration stick grind camshaft and headers a few good tricks and pulling 12:60's @ 100MPH sounds a lot nicer my '66 425CI is a lot Wilder punched 40 over making it a 442 CI totally built custom ground factory stick camshaft becouse of the 45 degree bank angle putting out 525 HP @ 6700 RPM '67 400 Turbo with '67 Jet-A-Way 2-speed trany from a 330 CI being smaller the switch pitch convertor give me 3800 high stall and 2400 low stall I have the toggle switch on the shifter running a reverse pattern manual valve body with trans brake & 4:56:1 posi clutches shimed Block squared and balanced forged crank crossed drilled rods cut for oil relief block debuted and oil gallies polished '70 Toronado 5 quart pan and windage tray 9/16" pickup high volume pump oil restriction for the cam bearings & major head work porting & relief center crossover under carb blocked off and reshaped as well as exhaust polished to mirror finish Joe Mondeo taught me well... And the motor is mostly stock besides the Coles true roller timing chain, roller rockers, Holley Carb, & Hooker Headers..

Did you Have to use valve relifed pistons?

The pistons and heads are both low compression, so no valve reliefs were needed.

How do you figure sports fan? In 72, the 442 was no longer a model but a trim level. You could get a 350 442 with a bench and column shift if you wanted to. It was more of a trim and suspension package at that point.

It's not a 442 didn't come with 350 and the rear bumper is Cutlass bumper don't have the dual exhaust cutouts...tell tale signs right there to bad could not see dash pass side dash tag Cutlass Supreme or 442 but I say Cutlass

Something wrong 442 didn't have 350 and I don't see 442 rear bumper exhaust cutouts if you ask me it's a clone not real numbers matching but good looking still

I agree, it is possible it is a clone, but 72 was a trim package again, so it could be added at the dealer to any trim or engine level. Truth be told, it was an H engine code, low comp 350 2 barrel, so I doubt it was a real 442. That is the way it came to me as a gift, so either way, I wasnt going to let it go!

What are you talking about? Clearly (for starters) you can see there is a 350 under the fake hood? The 442 never came with a 350. You Idiot!

droldsw31 I know this particular car is a bad clone. Not all 442 were 455 engines you could get the 350 with that hood. The hood he has on is not a ram air Hood it's a stock hood which could come in a 442 package. 442 was a Appearance package for all models not just the 455. there was the 442 W-29

There are some good clones out there only way to tell would be to check the vin number and certain parts on the car. Don't need to call me an idiot. I own a 1972 Cutlass I also know a lot about these cars.

I was drunk again. When I'm drunk I call everyone an Idiot. I'm not drunk now. But Shit, there aren't any exhaust cutouts on the rear bumper, the side mirrors are wrong and 442's were a Performance package not just an appearance package. You silly toad.
