$725 Audi S8 Gets Loud! (4.2L V8 Budget Exhaust)

Finally our rare $725 2001 D2 Audi S8 gets loud! We chop off the restrictive muffler / resonator and replace with straight pipes! The 4.2L V8 definitely makes a nice rumble with some pops and burbles. We bought this car at savage auction sight unseen as a mechanically damaged, non running car! With a new battery a radiator she was good to go. What do you all think of the sound, should we make it even louder??

Yeah they sounds mental. I used to own a a6 c6 with the 4.2 v8. Butterflyvalve exhaust so stock mufflers and straight pipe :)

That exhaust is perfect IMO. It’s got the throaty grumble, but isn’t ear piercingly loud like straight pipes. You nailed it.

Sell it to a collector... After everything the previous owner has spent on it, I, personally think it deserves a good home for its longevity... And I don't know if it's possible, but, give it an 'x' pipe but keep the resonator... Half and half mad noise... But also give the factory parts to the collector for their preferences of originality

Magnaflow muffler and resonator will sound really good and no drowning in the cab. I have a 1990 V8 with the same set up and it sounds great.

Great job on a cool classic. Over the years I have had a number of these as my daily driver. I'm currently driving a 2003 S8. The other 2 got written off by inattentive drivers trying to run me off the road. If you are looking for a good home for your S8 when you are done with it hit me up. put it in semi auto so you can fully rev... put the shifter to the right into the +/- slot. Then on the wheel where those buttons have +/- on the steering wheel (roughly 10 and 2 o clock) is an old school version of paddle shifts. they are just little buttons. I had this exact car when I was in highschool.

I used to have a 97 Pearl white A8 that had the same motor and body in every way. I loved that car with everything I had at the time. I do miss that car. I can send you photos and my story if you're ever interested to know how long and how much I used that thing, along with the obsessive amount of cleaning and maintenance I did on it all the time.
